  1. As an Asian American, is it ok for me to be concerned? Maybe even generate a bit of outcry about it? I don’t want to dismiss your overall point (I think) of why would you care about x and not y... Personally for me it’s the build up of a bunch of little things. And they add up. It’s... Asians often being seen as foreign and not part of this American life, even if we were born here or grew up here. Common example (and believe me this is more annoying than anything), “Where are you from? No I mean where are you really from? It’s the constant... Ho Lee Fuc and shit like that... where it’s just accepted as good fun and totally ok to use e v e r y single time (seriously be more clever people). It’s hearing it called the China Flu not because “that’s where it originated from,” but rather as a way to demonize and blame... All the little superficial stuff adds up, then it’s conditioned and surely it’s ok especially if no one says it’s not... AND that’s what has me concerned and a bit worried... and well a bit pissed off now.
  2. I'm all for shining a little light on our more, ahem, racially-insensitive alums here but why don't we FOI aggy emails during last summer's Sul Ross statue kerfuffle while we're at it?
  3. As a foreign "immigrant" (I put immigrant in quotes because I was just applying for graduate schools in a place known for good graduate schools, and more importantly, was getting paid in the process; never considered myself an immigrant because I felt, maybe naively, that I belonged equally here), I can unequivocally state that there are many things that make US an envy of the world, and why people like me want to come to US. The basic societal rules are the most important, and these are what make US great. The fact that there is, for the most part, essential equality in buying and selling, moving and settling, working and playing, being treated about the same regardless of how you look or talk, form own cultural/religious circles, shout on streets and stand for elections, etc. is very very very important. Even in the smallest of towns, there is essential camaraderie after a brief hesitation by the majority of people. There is relatively lot less exclusivity and exclusion. Only in US can you be very different, form your own circle of difference, and everyone will just let you be. For example, even though my ancestors have been in southern India for thousands of years, if I say or write a text that the government thinks is critical of them, they will throw my Muslim ass in jail without any recourse. Even the most liberal of western European countries do not tolerate, let alone celebrate diversity as US does, except of those "diverse" aspects that they have decided are part of their identity. Then they are not really diverse, is it? No country gives the same platform to so much diversity as this country. Of course, this country has the slavery history that it weaned out from in fits and starts, and continues to marginalize the Black community systematically. As an "immigrant", I owe my life experience in the US to the sacrifices of the Black community. They have paid and continue to pay a heavy price so that we can be doctors and CEOs. I get Brisket's points, but his observations are not unique to US, but more a state of the world. Show me a place where intolerance, authoritarianism and inequity isn't on the rise. Whether the rich (US, east/west Europe, Australia, Israel), middle (Turkey, Saudi, Brazil, China, Russia), poor (India, Iran, Egypt) or insignificant (Myanmar, Sri Lanka, most of the Arab countries, central Asian *stans, Balkans, central America, sub-Saharan Africa), the world is hurtling towards organized fleecing and populist vigilantism. Ironically, the only country that is slightly limping in the other direction is Pakistan. Their PM is a good guy, but of course all the surrounding goons (Modi, MBS, Netanyahu) hate him. If he cannot survive for long, they will fall back to military rule. tl;dr: I agree with Brisket's gloom, but it is worldwide, and US is still the best of the lot.
  4. Upward mobility is largely dead here. That's why the children of so many Mexican immigrants in my wife's family, many of them at a disadvantage because they are dreamers and not full citizens, have only found their way solidly into the middle class instead of becoming billionaires in their early to mid 20's.
  5. Religion of peace.
  6. Holy shit what a good argument.
  7. Women can’t get an abortion without a waiting period. Can’t register to vote on Election Day and Georgia and the Republican majority in Georgia is currently trying to put even more rules and restrictions on voting. But any old body can waltz in and buy a gun and walk out with it on the SAME FUCKING DAY AND THEN GO MURDER EIGHT FUCKING PEOPLE.
  8. I know a ton of conservatives that are in favor of legalization. The problem is they keep voting for politicians who aren't. Most conservatives I know agree with Democrats on a glut of issues, except for abortion and guns and have gotten completely wrapped up in the social media driven culture wars that have them convinced that everyone who votes Democrat is trying to either burn their house to the ground in a race riot, or cut their kids' dicks off and make them piss sitting down.
  9. Wife can't sleep last night and wakes me up around 1:30am. Now I can't sleep. She takes an ambien. I take some melatonin. Hour goes by, still no sleep. She gets up, pours herself a glass of wine. Comes to bed maybe 45 mins later. Of course I'm still awake. I figure this might be a good time to knock one out to help me pass out. I make a move but she's pretty groggy at this point after the pills and wine, and not into it. So I go rub one out. I take off my wedding ring and set it down in the bathroom, get down to business, and then finally go back to bed and pass out. I get up early, take my daughter to school and go to my office while my wife's still asleep. I get a frantic phone call after she wakes up and finds my wedding ring in the bathroom, "Oh my God. What happened last night? I'm completely freaking out. What did I say? Are we getting divorced?"
  10. I think we should all take a moment and be grateful that our current President isn't going to say something positive about the killer today.
  11. Today would've been Murphy's 10th birthday. He's looking down wishing all you Surly dogs a happy St Paddy's day ☘️
  12. Got the baby girl out yesterday for some Spring Break action in West Galveston Bay. She caught the biggest trout. Water temp was a nice 75 and much more bait in the shallows than the last couple of weeks.
  13. Jesus shut the fuck up about America you Limey fuck.
  14. Thought we already had a rolling power failure governing.

  16. I assume he’ll get more playing time now that he’s a possession receiver.
  17. Not sure if it would work. The characters are generally too intelligent for our current era.
  18. You're normally a pretty smart guy, so I'm going to assume that workswithseed hacked your account.
  19. You're comparing apples to oranges. The link you shared about the murders in Atlanta was a weekend of violence with multiple perpetrators. Sure, a death is a death, but that has never been the case with how things are reflected in the media. How many people did the DC Sniper kill in 2001? 10. But why then was it such a big deal? Surely, there were major cities that suffered 10 homicides over a similar period. Because it has nothing to do with body count and everything to do with the circumstances. One person killing 5+ people is always going to play more than 5 separate people killing doing the same work. You add to that the shameful history of white-on-black violence in this country perpetrated by men who killed to deny an entire race a place at the table, and a persistent, calculated resistance to every Black movement in this nation's history and you have something unique. Lastly, your confidently held belief that a black man kicking off a race war by walking around killing as many white women as he could would NOT result in a lot of media coverage only makes me wonder why you don't consider the most watched news network part of the "media." But sure, head back to the DT where you'll be praised for your nuanced race takes. Thanks for letting us "have our thread."
  20. How about this: seems like it's boiling down to one of two possible motives being in play. Each one of those motives is utterly fucked up. Either a racist POS, or a sexually repressed victim of fundamentalist brainwashing. Or maybe a nice blend of the two. Who knows? So, in conclusion, he is clearly Antifa, and this is a false flag conducted at the direction of George Soros.
  21. Any experienced CPS Caseworker will tell you alcoholics beat/neglect their kids, and weed smokers do not. The Texas GOP hates children who have emerged from their mother's womb with prejudice. It's simple logic.
  22. Cops publicly downplaying crimes by white guys will somehow never cease to amaze me.
  23. We lead the world in self-congratulation which is a trait that never did any country, business, or person any good. I can see why it would rankle foreigners. It rankles me because this blind dedication to team jersey is also a cover for malign elements to harm the republic. Wanker Bob makes poor arguments but alludes to some valid points. If they weren't valid, I doubt so many people would be responding with outrage. They'd just laugh them off instead. I don't look to Great Britain as a model for much of anything other than their parliamentary debate system where issues must actually be deliberated. But WB doesn't really hold Great Britain up as a paragon, at least in my limited reading of the thread, so not even that remark scores a hit on him. I'm fine with the foreign perspective. I, like Brisket, would prefer to be open minded to criticism in hopes to improve. You know, in order to form a more perfect union and all of that. It's March 17, so fuck the Brits for their tyrrany over the Irish including Cromwell, the Penal Laws, and dividing the island. Bobby Sands.
  24. When I booked my appointment in Brady, the Walmart called me and rebooked me to a different day twice. Not because they ran out, or didn't get vaccine...but because they didn't have enough appointments booked those days to open a package of vaccine and end up wasting most of it. So if there aren't enough 1Bs looking for a shot to bother opening it, why should I feel bad about getting a spot? Shots in arms as fast as possible is how we get back to normal (and minimize mutations).
  25. Today marks two weeks since my 2nd Pfizer shot. It's a good day.
  26. You just had a weather event in every single county of a huge fucking state, that hadn't occurred in how many decades ? Texas closed itself off from a multi state energy grid (that's just plain old arrogance coupled with some stupidity) ? A corrupt AG or cow czar or whatever he is. That's a sign the state is done ? When hasn't there been a politician accused of corruption ? Jeebus there are some fucking sad people here. How do you get up every morning and trudge on ? (See: Trophs post above for some friggin' perspective).
  27. Why do Twitter hackers always do boring shit when they get access to someone's account? Plugging your reseller business is lame, but tweeting "How does an aggy find his sheep in tall grass? Very satisfying!" from the Texas head coach's account would make that person an automatic legend.
  28. I told someone this'll be like Suh vs. the Texas OL in 2009.
  29. Did you, at any point that you were typing this, think "hmmm, maybe I shouldn't"?
  30. When John Lithgow's son died in a car accident while driving under the influence of alcohol after a night of dancing, his daughter fucked Kevin Bacon and helped choreograph a dance in a barn. She didn't kill a bunch of dancers.
  31. This thread sucks and the decision to post it seems rather cunty.
  32. This thread really is brisket's wheelhouse: emotion, words, doom, zany analogies, hypotheticals, so many words. Any debatable facts? Maybe? Has Hitler been mentioned yet? It's great because we can all be sad and mad and be here for hours and not learn a thing except Brisket types fast. Thanks Bob.
