So there's this app called "One Second Every Day". My friend showed it to me a couple of years ago and i've been hooked ever since. Ive always loved film and photography; i was always photographing and recording things my entire life, and this app made that super easy for me.
Anyhoo, I've been adding clips to the app and making films ever since then, and i recently was presented with a reason to make a highlight reel of the last 12 months. i made the reel and uploaded it to youtube, and then threw it up on my 60-whatever inch roku TV and watched it, and i honestly felt/feel, "damn, this is pretty cool; this could have a bit of mass appeal."
welp, as it happens i am in the process of starting my own youtube channel (i technically already have one, but this will be me being dedicated to producing content and trying to accrue followers), and things like this film will be posted on that channel and sometimes shared here, so i figured i may as well post this one right now.
finally, this was the unexpected thing that the film did for me- this last year has been hard. i mean no doubt it's been hard on everyone, but got damn was this last year was a struggle for me, for a multitude of reasons. and yet, when i watched this film on my TV, i felt all warm and fuzzy inside. i said, "man, that looks like a pretty decent life. that looks quite enjoyable." and ultimately that's my hope for anyone who watches this- that it makes them feel good, and feel like life is/can be beautiful, even during the shittiest of times.
so, without further loquaciousness, here it is- A Year In The Life of Derka. i hope you enjoy it.
