  1. I'm beginning to think that not everyone here understands that finding fraud isn't the actual goal.
  2. Okay, this is the post that did it. I have been trying to decide if you were just a person with a differing viewpoint, which would be perfectly fine, or if you are unintelligent and part of the MAGA cult. Turns out, you are an unintelligent person. First, you use the highest end of the range to try to make your point. Strike one as being disingenuous. Second, everyone is against fraud in government spending, except those, I guess, who are committing the fraud or profiting from it in some way. Third, what DOGE is doing is just wantonly slashing things, mostly in the form of jobs (I suppose because everyone in business knows that payroll is your highest expense). And, not coincidentally, they are jobs within departments that as a matter of policy the Trump administration and Republicans/conservatives don't like, like USAID and other programs that help mostly poor people. Policy differences are not the same as fraud. That is totally illogical and, frankly, anti-democratic; strike two. Lastly, the numbers here are a very small fraction of the total budget. Would everyone like fraud in government spending to be as low as possible? Of course! Is it possible for it to ever be zero? Fuck no! Whenever you have an organization as large and as complex as the federal government, even a vastly shrunken version of it, fraud will always be possible and it will always happen. Total failure to understand the way the real world works - strike three. You're out.
  3. As someone who manages some grant-funded projects that have been paused due to being funded under Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, there is definitely a lot of waste, fraud, and abuse going on. Waste - Construction projects have been put on hold. It costs money daily to keep equipment on-site, and if you send them home, it costs tens of thousands of dollars to mobilize back out. I'm certain that some projects are being cancelled altogether, costing millions of dollars for zero benefit. Fraud - The government signed contracts agreeing to pay for a portion of these projects, and some are being cancelled outright, mid-project. That is fraudulent, just like it would be fraudulent for me to take the money and then not work on the project as described in the agreement. Abuse - None of this shit is authorized by Congress or law. DOGE can't even tell us who is in charge of it, and they are overriding the people who actually are in place to monitor and evaluate Federal employees to fire them based on emails their AI is reviewing. I think the Sesame Street in Egypt grant is ridiculous just like everyone else does, but there is still someone, probably an American citizen, on the other side of that agreement who in good faith signed a contract from the United States to purchase all the equipment, hire the film crew, relocate to Egypt, and produce that show. There is nothing fraudulent about any of that.
  4. DOGE isn't going to fix anything because it's not about saving money. It's about privatization. It'll probably end up increasing costs in the long run.
  5. apropos of nothing. Shout out to this Virginia legend
  6. TXST beats aggy in baseball tonight 7-3!
  7. You know how you can tell they are not serious about reducing the deficit? Instead of hiring auditors to go in and find and prosecute people illegally billing the government (The biggest unsubstantiated claim they are making about fraud and abuse) they indiscriminately slash the government workforce of the people whose job is to find WFA. Claim people cheating on their taxes, fire the IRS auditors; Claim Medicaid fraud, fire the IG; claim illegal billing, fire all the contract specialists. Then when you are done with your random firing and chaos generation, claim cost savings on all the contracts that were already executed on. 90% of a 5 billion contract is already spent? Doesn’t matter claim we saved $5B. Billions of dollars under contract to Farmers for land management, treat them like the plumber at Mar-A Largo and just don’t write the check. Sure it is a debt we are contractually obligated to pay but what’s GAAP to Trump, he’s already got 34 convictions for fraudulent accounting.

Trumpism is hedonism for assholes. It’s a license for callous shitheads to indulge their greediest, most inhumane impulses. So the idea that we should murder and/or displace an entire population of human beings, raze their homeland, and erect a tacky gilded monument to the Ugly American tourist on the ashes of this genocide couldn’t be more perfectly on brand.
  9. Ain't no "might" about it. Blaming trannies and browns for all of our ills was 100% the winning play. The hate engine is the only engine firing on all cylinders these days. So....the Dems ought to build a fucking V-10 version and stomp on the pedal. "Republicans hate you -- they want to end your jobs so you end up working for slave wages for billionaires. They want to take away your healthcare. They want to close ALL of your schools. They want you to pay for government handouts to billionaires, while a billionaire pays less in taxes than you do. They want to hand the land of the free and the home of the working man over to fatcats who shit on gold-plated toilets, and who think that all of you REAL, hardworking Americans, are suckers. You're not suckers. You're Americans. And Americans fight back when someone is screwing them over." Hell, it doesn't even have to be true (we know this). Just tight, inflammatory, and repeated incessantly. Seriously, when a member of the media asks a Dem politician what their favorite flavor of ice cream is.....what I typed should be the answer.
  10. Prove the fraud! “Fraud” is just now code for “spending I don’t like”. The actual inspector generals had offices and budgets and their jobs were- get this- to root out waste, fraud and abuse. And they all got fired without new replacements. Those people had to hold actual investigations and then make public findings. Now Elon posts lies and then impounds funds appropriated by Congress. What a great system that is definitely about fraud and not just showy bullshit to distract from firing all the regulators trying to hold his companies accountable

  12. You're right that they need a target -- that's why I pick billionaires. Demonize the CEOs of health insurers. Blame everything bad in the world on Elon Musk, whether he's involved in it or not (remember "SOROS!"?) Trump is buddying up to Russian oligarchs now -- he wants to sell US citizenship to rich criminals who will hurt American workers. Billionaires and rich criminals -- that's the enemy. They are sipping expensive champagne on yachts while you work your ass off to barely pay your bills. Do what Americans do -- fight back.

    Hell yeah he can!
  15. First, that isn't what the report says. Second, fraud isn't just what the government pays out, but also what the government doesn't receive. And you've put the tax fraud in chief in charge. And, again, reducing payroll doesn't help reduce fraud. It increases it because you're literally firing the people whose job it is to identify it and prosecute it. Going back to the actual topic, explain how decreasing revenue by $4.5 trillion and spending by $2 trillion results in a decreased deficit.

  17. The Olds like me will understand.
  18. The route to get here was obnoxious and ham fisted, but Trump gets to say the US is getting paid for an easy political win, without any binding agreement from either side. Looks like status quo after a lot of hysterical yelling and fictional numbers thrown around.
  19. The good thing is that if you have a federal project, there won’t be any inspectors checking for rebar.

  22. Yeah but it's fine because any coach currently at A&M (and winning) is obviously a true aggie, so if they win with them it's great. It's only once they leave (or start running out of time more frequently) that they become a piece of shit not worthy of stepping foot on the hallowed aggie campus. Then they knew all along that this guy was never a true aggie, and it's a actually good thing that they didn't win a title with him because they'd rather lose with "class" than win with whatever the opposite of aggie-style "class" is. In fact, maybe some of the true redass ags on the team lost the title game on purpose because they knew the coach was a garbage person and didn't want to taint the aggie legacy with an impure win under someone who didn't live up to the code. heroes. Like basically all of their bullshit, it's revisionist history, self-reinforcing, self-fulfilling prophecy, circular logic type stuff.
  23. I am a close friend of Henry's and hopefully I can clear up some of the misconceptions. First off, this isn't any type of GoFundMe scam. Henry does have health insurance, but his insurance isn't great. It's not employer provided, he's paying out of pocket and having been a relatively healthy guy, he didn't opt to get the best insurance possible. Even with insurance, this was a major event and his bills are astronomical. I can't say I know every single detail, but I believe he had to be airlifted via helicopter to a trauma hospital in downtown Chicago amongst several other complications that required extra care. I don't exactly know how all of that factors into what is covered by his insurance and what isn't at this point, but he spent 3 weeks in ICU and I don't believe the whole thing simply comes down to meeting a deductible and then everything else being covered. Right now, he's unable to walk and will require on-going physical therapy. This will be a lifelong condition he is facing. He certainly isn't broke but having made $18m in career earnings, you can quickly deduct that down to less than half ($9m after taxes, agent fees, league fees, union fees, etc are taken out). And then factor he hasn't even been in the league for almost 10 years now. He lives a bit better than your 6-figure tech bro, but anyone would be set back by this major life threatening and long term medical setback. He has a very long journey ahead. Also note that Henry did not ask for the GoFundMe to be setup. A friend of his made it on his behalf and is making sure he receives all the money, but it's not in Henry's character to ask for money. Having said that, it's a pleasant surprise as he will certainly need the money over time. If it's not for your taste or how you want to spend your money, all good! If you care to donate, it is definitely appreciated by him. Hopefully this puts some of the shit slinging and speculation to rest.
  24. Funny how republicans use fraud and waste interchangeably but stand on legal distinctions between rape and sexual assault
  25. Really enjoying the new MAGA post office discourse and the complete lack of awareness that Amazon, FedEx, and UPS don’t function without USPS. But I honestly hope this happens. Between once a week mail delivery, cutting government jobs, slashing Medicaid and Social Security, and tariffs it’s almost impossible to imagine a program designed to inflict more pain on MAGA’s voter base. Enjoy it, rural old America. It’s even funnier because you’re all too dumb to realize you did it to yourselves. LOL.

I've been rereading and re-listening to a bunch of WWII history lately. America is making decisions that would have made us a natural ally of the tripartite pact. Our citizens are acting much the same as Germany and Japans - driven largely by a hunger for growth at all costs, and completely oblivious to the degree of propaganda and disinformation they are imbibing

  35. Police Service of Northern Ireland have announced the discovery of an arms cache in a Belfast suburb which consists of 200 semi-automatic rifles with 25 thousand rounds of ammunition. They also found 200 pounds of heroin, 5 million in forged bank notes, and 25 trafficked prostitutes. This was all found in a semi-detached house behind the Public Library. Local residents were stunned by the news. Community spokesman Donal O'Flaherty said, “We are all shocked; we never knew we had a library.”
