before winning my disabliity case (an extremely long and arduous process where people like attorneys and judges make you feel subhuman for asking for help) my prescription drugs cost $800/month, and i couldn’t afford to see a doctor, so i never did see a doctor for years, barring ER visits. since getting on medicaid my prescriptions cost nothing, and i can only assume that they’re wildly more expensive now than they were ~7-8 years ago when i got on SSI disability.
my mom (freshly retired after 45 years of service at her school) is about to be living off of social security, and i currently “live” off of ~$620/month (the max for ssi disability in this state) and i get to see the doctor for free. we both use our school’s former accountant and have for decades. she met with him today for an updated financial forecast, and he basically was like, “yeah- y’all need to prepare for the worst.” we’re cutting our monthly budget down by ~30% right off the bat just to be safe. if i lose my medicaid, if her social security is messed with, and/or she has to start paying thousands of dollars monthly for my meds, then she’s going to have to sell the house she built in 1991 just for us to survive.
so uh, thanks a lot donald trump, and to all of the hateful fucktards who voted for him. thank you for jeopardizing my health and my living situation because you’re a hateful piece of shit who voted for stuff like this to happen. thanks for making 45 years of service to her community + decades of paying social security not be enough for my mom to retire without having to sell her goddamn house. FUCK.
