Even though I’m not the person who asked, thanks for the rec. My long-time guy, who was the best, most honest plumber to ever walk the earth, died last year. So the next time I need a plumber I will be starting from scratch.
There’s a pizza place by the house that will deliver a passable chicken parm for $12. Throw in some calamari or a salad and you meet the delivery minimum. It’s the definition of Cisco Italian food, but if the wife is out of town and you’ve been drinking too much it works. I would rather do that than try the kfc version.
Could is an important word there. I could fuck Margot Robbie this weekend. There is a non-zero chance of it happening, as we are both alive and I could procure a cheap Spirit plane ticket to LA, hang out at a few Hollywood hotspots, and shoot my shot if I happened to find myself within 500 feet of her. But probably not.
That’s IHOP. Denny’s is the Grand Slam. I have nothing against Denny’s, I ate breakfast there every time I went fishing with my grandpa as a kid, and plenty of times at 3 a.m. later in life. Denny’s has a space in the restaurant universe that it occupies well, but I ain’t spending 8 hours in a car with 3 kids to eat a grand slam.
If I am willing drive 8 hours round trip to have a meal with someone, I would also be willing to pick up the check at a restaurant a notch or two above Denny’s.
The happy compromise is a Dairy Queen. Dependable. Reliable. Better than an alsups burrito. But if you find yourself in a town that isn’t big enough to keep a DQ in business, the alsups burrito looks pretty fucking good.
Aside from a few bottles I keep around for special occasions, if I’m having a drink before dinner on a Wednesday night, it’s EWBIB. It used to be Weller or Antique, but that ship sailed a long time ago.
And this is why I no longer go to Wendy’s. I used to get a spicy chicken sandwich meal about once a week. The fast food chicken sandwich landscape has changed a lot in the last 10-20 years. CFA started it. Popeyes finished it. Both are closer to my house than the nearest Wendy’s.
