Do I get to start the James Talarico thread?
I think a lot of that can be explained by the relatively cheap standard of living in Texas. That relative advantage is changing, though. People become more engaged when they FEEL their pocketbook is affected by shitheels in the statehouse. When net in-migration falls to a minimal amount because it's no longer cheaper to move here, the political class might very well have the reckoning long overdue to them . . . if we still have somewhat fair elections.

First, I'm not picking on you, just so you know. IMO, your posts are must read here, fwiw. That said, I only get a sense of the law you practice, and it seems like patent law is a featured area. Do you practice something where you meet uneducated folks regularly? I mean those for whom 8th-9th grade was a real achievement? My areas of practice touch a wide range of educational levels and I have disengaged voters in my office 2+ days a week. I regularly hear about how Trump is "going to fix that" or some master plan on some issue that's only talked about in corners of the net where even the most courageous of us normies dare not browse. My experience is anecdotal, for sure, and my locality may have something to do with skewing things this way, but add in all the leopard party voters that we hear about daily, and I just don't see a basis for the bolded statement above. I'll grant you that there is a decided shift in more educated folks. But that started before the '20 election.

2026 Midterms ...
I only take issue with "citizen action via government regulation." Gallaway is a talking head, nothing more. He throws out half-baked ideas often wrapped in silly phraseology. Here he's packaged a rather mundane idea people have been warning us about for years before it happened as a new insight (gigantic companies stiffle competition? Who knew?). He does that shit constantly. We don't need "citizen action," whatever the fuck that means, we need regulation. If he means "vote the fuckers out," then say it. He doesn't. He advocates for centrists like Blooberg. Yeah, a billionaire who won't rock the kleptocratic boat, that's what we really need! It's all well and good that he says some of the right things about fixing shit. It's all well and good that he rightly points out that young men are falling behind.* His schtick is moronic because its half-hearted and is rarely prospectively correct. He felt Harris was going to win because of the larger numbers of folks canvassing for her. He didn't make the turn to the take that the '24 election was about testosterone until after the fact. Well done. It's easier to be persuasive to folks who've always been on the left by not talking like a fucking motivational speaker. Also, protip: don't even partly justfy genocide. IMO, he's just a proto-Bill Maher, and will take a shitheel turn when/if Trumpism passes into memory. * Young, mediocre, men are falling behind in large part because our education system cannot adapt to changing times while fighting for its existence against government trying to gut it so rich people can pay less in taxes and "christians" can try to get women pregnant, barefeet in the kitchen again. I won't single out SG here, because nobody who talks about this is on the right track. Young, mediocre, men will continue to fall behind without major educational reform. That shit's not happening anytime soon because educators are in full surval mode.

Do I get to start the James Talarico thread?
Every time I meet a new person that has moved here from elsewhere, I'm even less enthused by the possibility of Texas ever becoming sane again. Other states are not sending their best and brightest, they're sending MAGA, at least in my experience.

It was COVID and how badly Trump fucked that up that flipped the '20 election. The shit that Trump does that would sink any other human in almost any other thing a human tries to do? Didn't matter in '16, '20 or '24. The fatigue you feel isn't felt by the people that can name the president and maybe the VP and another elected person here and there. The persuadables are generally uninformed and don't see much until they remember there's an election in a few days. Everyone else is in their corner. That fatigue you feel is mostly being reminded daily that the president is in the running for worst person of all time to not commit a genocide (god I hope that's not a "yet"). Too many people either dismiss that reminder or don't get one because they avoid being informed. All Trump had to do was follow professional advice in a measured way and throw in some fireside chat style morale boosting addresses rather than center his response around massive giveaways to the wealthy and unhinged PCs, and we'd be in year 10 of his rule already. If there's an election on the level in '26 and '28, the GOP is toast, because the economy will swallow up everything else for the persuadables. If.

Scott Galloway is consistenly moronic, and so is this. Everyone, everywhere, at all times, in every human endeavor is seeking to exloit rules. To cite that as a reason to not make them is regarded. "Up to citizens?" Get the fuck out of here with that bullshit. That's libertarian nonsense favoring bad actors and asking for extreme dilligence by unsophisticated people lacking the time to exercise it.

Trump’s America
So what happens when the GOP rolls in November in obviously cooked elections? I'm going with nothing. We roll over and take it like the pussified nation we are.

Trump’s America
For the rage bait it has been. Nothing will come from this. If they repeat it, let them. As the suddenly inciteful Candace Owens said, they lost the SB narrative. If this somehow has legs, it only keeps that L in the news. Never interrupt your enemy when they're making a mistake.

Trump’s America
This is an old people rage porn soundbite. Nothing more. Like a lot of the shit they do the "libs crying" reaction is the actual point. Best just laugh it off.

Y'all having fun interacting with evil incarnate? I'm sure most have figured it out by now, but it's worth stating: evangelical cunts like this fuckstick have been brainwashed from birth to beleive the opposite of everything that is actually good and decent in just about every avenue of life. They do not reason, they regurgitate. You might as well be interacting with a chatbot. I get it, I've done my time feeling out vapid trash like him. It's fun for a while. Just remember you're on a road that goes to nowhere. And yeah, stick an (R) behind Biden's and Obama's names and he'd say the exact opposite about them.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but y'all are thinking of the Last Week Tonight "Ted" bit, not Beto's real commercials.

- Texas -- a failed state
Because grifting ain't just for Pub pols and a U.S. Senate race is better at drawing fundraising dollars from out of state than a gubernatorial one. At the beginning of the year, Talarico had $7.1m, Crockett had $5.6m, while the highest cash on hand in the governor's race is $661k for Hinojosa. In a Tribune article on the candidates the other two listed were Cole with $27k and Bell with $6k. Consolation prize for losing the Senate nom? MONEY! Consolation prize for the governer's race? Your name with live forever as a footnote on ballotpedia.org.- Jeffrey Epstein needs his own thread
This doesn't even merit the mourning shakes head gif at this point. We know it to be true and are no longer fazed by it. Maybe some still wonder how the Nazi regime rose to power and the German people let the Holocaust happen. I don't. Trump could order it right now and not lose his 40%. Whip up another transt/CRT/caravan frenzy in late September '28, and AI Weekend at Bernie's Trump is your president again. I've said it on other threads: evil. Evil wrapping itself in the American flag, carrying a floppy bible and driving an ugly electric truck. That's the opposition.- Tulsi Gabbard
