It doesn’t seem to be a list of their best movies, but movies where they just sort of appear. Thus the no Die Hard
But then I don’t get some of them even under that requirement, because Gleeson was a lead in Bruges. Same with Branagh in Henry V
I went to UT grad school with a bunch of Ivy leaguers (in a field where your graduate pedigree mattered). My take away on them is if you paid a quarter mill to go to Princeton for undergrad then had to settle for public school grad school, you were the dregs of your class. They were all the mediocre students.
Made it through half last night. He goes back to the well a little with his “why is it so quite in here” thing when he says something that blows everyone’s hair back.
I think Rice is definitely a better school in general. I also am aware that certain majors are considered better at UT than at Rice (including my own major). I also think there are a lot of other viable reasons why to choose UT over Rice, so the mere names on there doesn't necessarily make me think one way or the other about the applicant. Two quality schools offering different things.
What I'm talking about are the UTs versus places that are in the 150s in rankings. Those make a difference to me.
That NYT article the other day on Texas Rs leading off with the description of Perry and moving into today I thought was pretty good on this. Perry kept himself very mobile and could fit the whims of the day. Patrick has hardened himself on being a culture warrior and won't be able to maneuver to fit future popular opinions.
What you see are big differences in rankings, I don't think of as that big. The differences between Rice, Texas, and A&M are small enough that it doesn't really harden my opinion of them one way or the other in the stuff I've been involved in. Although the Rice to A&M spread starts to get there and would be weighing on my mind as potentially important.
Anyway, your knowledge of the hiring practices in individual businesses throughout innumerous fields is pretty impressive.
Small differences like UT and UF don’t matter, especially where the places are so geographically distant. There are a 1000 good reasons any particular individual would choose one over the other. But UT versus some 100+ ranked Texas school or something does. I begin with the assumption someone ‘chose’ [generic Texas school] over UT because of reasons of ability.

i was 21 and watched them collapse on tv with my roommates. i remember looking at one and saying "we just saw a bunch a people die." i think i said that out loud to remind myself that it was real and not some action film.
Well, my thoughts may be simplistic, but none of those “why this is bad news for the GOP” tweets can be right. Either this is a meaningless special election that we can extrapolate nothing from, or it indicates basically a hold serve —to slight backslide for Ds since 2018. If the GOP guys with smaller PVIs won then, there is no reason from this to think they wouldn’t win again.
