Fits with his real estate development mindset. He doesn't see countries, he sees land that is available for the right price.

2026 Midterms ...
It absolutely would hurt more R's - every Republican/MAGA woman in my family or among my friends that I can think of took their husband's name. But more than a few of the liberal members of my family or friends, the women did not.

2026 Midterms ...
What @HenryJames said. Look Brisket, I really love our shared taste in women and probably a similar collection of restraining orders related to our shared taste in women, and we have a lot of other things in common, but to piggyback off of something that @immamac said in another thread (or maybe this thread) - if you honestly believe that the USA is done, that Trump is going to take over elections and prevent states from holding them and that things are going to devolve into a shooting war, then what are you doing on a fucking message board? Why are you just pissing away your time like this? Why aren't you instead spending your time preparing, talking to friends and relatives, getting plans organized, getting things purchased and put away, practicing shooting, taking first aid classes, getting some land somewhere if you don't already have it, stocking away food, building out things like water collection and storage, solar power/battery systems, and finding some land to act as a place to go if things go to shit, etc.? Maybe because you are an empty-nester and/or cynical, you don't give a shit and are just biding your time on this little blue marble in space, but at least do something for your kids' sake. I think we will make it through this election, but if somehow we don't, while I'm not a prepper/survivalist type, I actually have some inherited/co-owned land with my in-laws out in West Texas (around 7 hours from Austin), from my family in Oklahoma and Arkansas (9-10 hours), and my sister's place an hour-and-a-half from Austin, and we have supplies (food, firearms and access to water) present at each (after COVID we put together some long-term plans). We recently rotated out our foodstuffs that needed to be replaced (not Jim Bakker's 100 lb buckets of mashed potatoes, but dried goods, etc.). We are friendly with the neighbors and/or have family around those places. Most people don't have access to such resources, and I benefitted from some aunts/uncles that didn't have kids and loved me and my sister like we were their own and so we inherited things, but somebody making more money than I could easily find some land to act as a bug-out place in case things go to shit, and it could double as a weekend retreat if you don't want to seem paranoid. And probably a lot closer to Austin - we didn't get to choose where our family lived decades or even more than a century ago. And maybe I'm less anxious than you because I have options if things go to shit, but I also have two younger children so I would assume my anxiety is probably higher as a result. But I'm also watching these morons fucking up doing something as simple as prosecuting Comey or James on "trumped-up" charges, and I'm watching a few thousand ICE and other feds fail to keep people in a blue state down, and I'm watching Trump be constantly distracted by the next shiny thing. And I just watched our Department of Defense claim a false victory over Venezuela when for whatever reason they decided they couldn't afford to put together an actual force that could invade and control Venezuela. My guess is they knew Congress would not be thrilled with the prospect of American soldiers guarding fucking Chevron pipelines in an election year. And for all of his bluster, Trump is refusing to push the military into Greenland. And he's treading carefully with ICE in red states as well, even though we know there are more people in those states who are here without proper papers than in fucking Minnesota. And he fucked up the National Guard deployment and now he doesn't even trust them. Do things suck? Yes. Are we being tested? Undoubtedly. But Trump is not going to magically suspend elections run by the states, especially when he doesn't have the National Guard to kick around and when he doesn't trust them (and for good reason). And Trump doesn't have to try and suspend elections - you should be far more worried about Musk and Facebook being run by former members of Trump's team, and misinformation/disinformation being spewed by AI/bots and aimed at MAGA and fence-sitters. It's a playbook that has worked for Trump before, and unfortunately, they would get away with it, and it's not like people opposed to Trump can do anything at all about it.

Non-political tariffs thread
They hit pretty good today. And Trump is looking at starting up more tariffs. Trump threatens 200% tariff on French wines and champagnes U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to impose 200% tariffs on French wines and champagne after French President Emmanuel Macron was reported to be unwilling to join his “Board of Peace” on Gaza. When asked for a response by a reporter in Miami about Macron’s stance, Trump dismissed the French leader’s influence and said he would use trade penalties as leverage. “Well, nobody wants him because he’s going to be out of office very soon,” Trump said. “So you know, that’s all right. What I’ll do is, if they feel like [being] hostile, I’ll put a 200% tariff on his wines and champagnes, and he’ll join. But he doesn’t have to join.” U.S. trade group Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America criticized what it called a “punitive trade threat.” “Comments signaling the potential for extreme tariffs—especially when tied to non-trade issues—create uncertainty across the entire three-tier system,” said WSWA President and CEO Francis Creighton. “Even the prospect of a 200% tax on imported goods sends shockwaves through supply chains, contracts and pricing decisions, and ultimately puts American jobs at risk.” Wine has now logged 52 consecutive months of declining volume in the U.S., according to WSWA’s 2025 year-end data. On-premise sales remain weak, even though dining accounts for more than half of total wine revenue. Champagne, however, stands out as one of the few bright spots — representing nearly 17% of sparkling wine revenue and growing — a trend threatened by possible duties on French products.

And it gets better - if you are a country unwilling to give Trump money to join his "peace" organization... Trump’s America
That's a serious lack of focus/energy on his part though. I know people are joking that if that was their relative, they'd be talking about long-term care for them, but that feels more like he is losing control of the narrative or has seen some poll numbers that scare him or something in general has him spooked/befuddled and he doesn't know how to shape the conversation, which is odd for him. Say what you want, but he still has his moments where he comes out and knows how to shape whatever batshit narrative he is pushing - that trashy reality TV personality is still in there somewhere. Hell, maybe he just had a conversation with a doctor or something.

Trump’s America
Vance has his own set of problems, but he's not desperate to distract people like Trump is, he's not trying to steal oil tankers and put the money in accounts he controls, and he's not desperate to craft some kind of "legacy" bullshit which involves attacking NATO countries for their land.

What's happening in Iran?
Everybody pays attention to the carriers we move around, but we are also moving dozens of Air Force aircraft into the region as we speak, which are somewhat harder to move since they are not a self-contained ship and require lots of equipment/personnel to be moved in multiple cargo aircraft. And there's always the heavy bombers that we won't see until they launch from the US on their bombing/missile missions.

Add Diego Garcia into the mix. Trump blasts NATO ally, the UK, over Chagos Mauritius deal Somebody is feeding him this bullshit, he probably thought Diego Garcia played for the Yankees the first time he heard the name.

The Trump Economy
Making America Great Again? Ray Dalio fears 'capital wars' due to Trump actions, with nations dumping U.S. assets Ray Dalio told CNBC he is concerned that countries holding large amounts of U.S. dollars and Treasurys may become less willing to finance U.S. deficits if trust erodes. At the same time, the U.S. continues to issue large volumes of debt, creating a problematic situation if confidence weakens on either side, Dalio said. Billionaire investor Ray Dalio warned Tuesday that President Donald Trump’s aggressive political direction could spark a new phase of global financial conflict, as foreign governments and investors reconsider their appetite for U.S. assets amid rising unease and economic tensions. “On the other side of trade deficits and trade wars, there are capital and capital wars,” Dalio told CNBC’s “Squawk Box” at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. “If you take the conflicts, you can’t ignore the possibility of the capital wars. In other words, maybe there’s not the same inclination to buy at U.S. debt and so on.” Trump 'showing world U.S. is back': Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent President Donald Trump is showing the world “the U.S. is back,” Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told CNBC, as tensions rise over the president’s bid to acquire Greenland. Asked about the president’s agenda at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, where Trump is set to make an address on Wednesday, Bessent said: “The U.S. is back, and this is what U.S. leadership looks like.”

Sell America trade: Dollar, Treasury prices tumble; gold spikes amid Trump's Greenland push The ‘sell America’ trade is in full swing Tuesday morning. President Donald Trump’s latest threats around Greenland pushed global investors to shift exposure away from U.S.-centric investments. The U.S. dollar index headed for its biggest decline since last April. Prices for 10-year Treasuries and 30-year Treasuries tumbled, sending yields spiking. The “sell America” trade is in full swing Tuesday morning after President Donald Trump and European leaders escalated tensions over Greenland. U.S. bond prices tumbled, sending yields spiking. The U.S. Dollar Index, which weighs the greenback against a basket of six foreign currencies, fell nearly 1% on Tuesday. The euro jumped 0.7% against the dollar. “This is ‘sell America’ again within a much broader global risk off,” Krishna Guha, head of global policy and central banking strategy at Evercore ISI, wrote in a note to clients.- Jeffrey Epstein needs his own thread
