  7. Reminds me of a previous international incident: AI Overview +4 In 2002, The Beijing Evening News (a Chinese newspaper) mistakenly published a report based on a 1998 The Onion satirical article. The article claimed Congress was threatening to leave the US Capitol building unless it was replaced with a new one featuring a retractable roof, a joke the paper took seriously. The Satire: The Onion article ("Congress Threatens To Leave Capitol Unless New $1B Retractable Dome Installed") claimed lawmakers demanded a modern, expensive roof. The Mistake: The Beijing Evening News published the story as legitimate news, highlighting it to illustrate American government dysfunction. The Reality: The US Capitol building did not, and has not, received a retractable roof. This incident is a famous example of a news outlet falling for satirical content.
