I don't really think either the one Beck got and the one just now were roughing, but the one just now was much closer to it and we're just asking for consistency. Can call both or neither, but not one and not the other.
Why does Sark always, always, always overthink shit in important games. Georgia has been dogshit against the run the last two games. Line up and try to move them off the ball.
If Banks is really someone they can't do without in recruiting they've got to move him to another role. They have got to bring in a real special teams coach.
I'm the rare breed of Georgia native who is a Falcons fan and doesn't really care about Georgia can the Dawgs be the local football team to shit the bed in that stadium for once?
(also it's a cool stadium, great place to watch a game)
I was looking through some stat stuff for the game this morning and I noticed something that I found was kind of remarkable. I know a lot of people have given Pete K his flowers for the defense this season, but here's something I found kind of crazy. There's a stat guru named Parker Fleming (statsowar on socials) and he defines quality possessions as getting to the opposing 40 or scoring a long touchdown. Texas has the second lowest quality possessions allowed rate in the country despite ranking 70th in the country in starting field position on defense (19 giveaways and ranking 129th in FBS in net punting is bad apparently). Despite the fact that our offense and special teams have put the defense in tough spots this year those fellas have answered the call and then some. Let's not turn the ball over and give Georgia short fields and go kick their asses today.
When I rewatched it I didn't think it was as bad as it felt in the moment. I think the first quarter was more of a feeling out process, but a lot of our mistakes were self inflicted and I know it was one play, but I think it's a different game if Wisner catches the ball on the flea flicker. I think mistakes compounded, Texas got tight and Georgia smelled blood and took advantage. I think Schumann and Smart kicked Sark's butt in the Georgia D vs Texas O matchup.
All that said, I think one of the biggest things is that Georgia did not respect the Texas run game nor should they have at that point. They were able to drop the safeties a lot to eliminate the deep balls and the CBs and LBs were very disciplined against the screen game. If the massive improvement we've seen from Texas in the run game the last 2.5 games is something that sticks I think it's going to be a completely different game today. I'm not super worried about the defensive giving up a ton to Georgia if the offense isn't putting them in bad situations again.
Beck sucked and they were only scoring because they were starting every possession in Texas territory because of turnovers and mistakes. Limit that, make them drive the length of the field and they're going to struggle to score on us. Their skill guys suck.
Was re-watching the first game today and leaking the running back out of the backfield on the reverse flea flicker was an absolutely DIABOLICAL wrinkle from Sark and it's a different game if Wisner catches that ball.
Also I've come out of it with a bit of a rosier outlook. I think mistakes just started to compound and things started spiraling for Texas and THEN Georgia smelled blood and pounced. Protect the ball, establish the run and use the middle of the field better than we did the first time around and we're going to win the game.
If you just look at counting stats you might think Trey Moore isn't having that good of a season, especially compared to some other guys on the team, but it really just feels like he's involved in so much. He was such a good pickup.
If you're doing a three stars hockey style thing Wisner and Broughton are easy stars 1 and 2, but the Big Goose gets the third one. He was put in a really tough spot and he handled it amazingly well. Give Sark credit, I think they tried to protect him by not putting him in bad situations, but he just looked great. I have three plays from the SkyCam that are all in a similar vein. For a guy who is 6'7, 315 he's light on his feet in a good way. He's got really long arms which makes it hard for defenders to get inside on him. The only nitpick is that when they are able to get inside on him he tends to bearhug which will get holding calls down the road, but that's something he can work. There is a LOT of potential here.
My SkyCam rewatch is focusing on Goosby so I'm not watching Quinn down to down as critically, but good lord this shit is why he's so maddening. These are on the same drive. Two of the best throws of his career. Both just awesome throws.
28th ranked running back in his own class.
RB3 entering camp with the #3 RB in the country joining the roster.
Fought his ass off to earn carries, became RB1 and just sonned Texas A&M. What a baller.
