It’s predictable. Qatar is shitty, but it’s shitty to its own people. Traveling spectators for the World Cup don’t really care about that because it doesn’t affect them. When the concern is the fan experience itself, then you have the PR nightmare this current WC is experiencing.
That may have also been the same year WWE had that televised empty arena match between The Rock and Mick Foley. Yes it’s a thing but like you say, this was the first one that was overtly political and the buildup was just overtly racist.
Ha! Did yall ever see Ghosts of Mississippi? Yeah, the Beckwith character played by James Woods was a watered down version of the actual guy. I mean if that feculant peasant wasn’t a “racist,” then no one in human history ever has been. To even suggest that he wasn’t is to deny the existence of racism itself.
See and people are making the rounds on social media touting this as a “logical” decision, like it’s defensible. It’s not logical; it’s emotional. It’s like a, to use your word, spineless parent sending their kid to timeout but ultimately giving them the candy for which they were begging out loud in a crowded store. Boy yeah, that parent really showed that kid! Really taught him a lesson!
it’s not hard at all. All you have to do is remind yourself that we have never been “the world police,” and the notion that we have is just a bedtime story that we’ve been stroking ourselves with since 1947
