  1. same as most here, CAP and not something my kid wants to do. Need someone to talk my kid out of UTK. Was accepted to Oregon and CU but prefers Tenn for some reason (hasn’t visited but has been to UO, UW and CU). Any surly with kids there? On paper Tenn seems like a better school than UO, especially the business school but CU business is close I think. Tenn lighter on the pocket for sure but I’ve read too many reddit threads about UTK lack of housing, freshman dorm issues, etc.. So guess we’ll visit and go from there.
  2. cold one for sure, I couldn’t feel my toes by the end. Easily the coldest outdoor Austin concert I’ve been to in 15+ years
  3. that snowboarder is in nw hills? if its the street I’m thinking of, that’s like saying a Leander road is in Cedar Park.
  4. so night crew says cover their meters and run their sprinklers…got it
  5. heb had plenty of chili supplies when I left earlier...no water or fritos though
  6. samesies as a few of you, sounds like our kids are applying at all the western schools outside of CA that have somewhat of a pulse in sports... Got some merit aid as well at CU but not even sure I would call it "modest", ha. Pretty much just waiting to hear from UW and if it's CAP or PACE. Probably wouldn't go the CAP route but the PACE program doesn't sound like the worst thing based on what I've heard from other parents. Did one of you say your kiddos had almost a full ride on tuition at Oregon? Our kid got the "summit" scholarship or whatever it was called but I think most did as well. He recently applied for another one at Oregon but I was just curious if there were some others that you OOS folks found to apply for...
  7. top 5% in state is auto admit, right?
  8. I should have clarified, our kid isn't engineering, business.😀 I think most would be all good with an acceptance to Purdue Engineering regardless of UT outcome. Hearing from others, if your kiddo only loves school, West Lafayette is a great place to hunker down and focus on that. If you're social and like larger towns/activities, probably not the greatest. Still miles better than Lubbock....
  9. I could see that if the parent is on the academic side, a bad look trying to pull strings...compared to other departments like the athletic dept. that butter the school's bread and significant athletic donation levels certainly do add some shine to a kid's application. Another obvious option/route is providing a large enough endowment to get your name on a building but we're not quite there yet...
  10. yep, was deferred at UT but got into Purdue[emoji2371]. A few kids from their school got into UT, a couple much smarter than ours. Just one head scratcher and they have a parent who works at UT. May just be a coincidence.
  11. worked! I was on an iphone. I finally switched to an iphone from a droid after 10+ years, it's been good and bad...
  12. is Tapa officially dead or do we need to just access from a laptop/PC right now? Vague question, I know…😄
  13. sounds like half of surly on this thread may end up wearing green and bright yellow nike gear by this time next year[emoji1]
