chefs kiss Avery Tomasco this morning: ⚠️FRIDAY AM UPDATE - The trend may not be our friend today. Cold air continues to trend **earlier**, temperatures may fall to freezing earlier, and our icing concerns may begin sooner rather than later. This is some very fresh data from our in-house IBM GRAF model, a favorite of mine when it comes to Arctic air masses. It shows temperatures falling to 32 or lower as early as 3 AM on Saturday morning to the north/northwest of Austin. The rest of the I-35 metro areas could see below-freezing temperatures around or after sunrise. This has important implications. During this timeframe, we expect heavy rain to be coming down on a widespread basis, and if temperatures are already dropping to a freeze, that means that at least some portion of this first batch of rain could gather as freezing rain. MAIN IMPACTS if this trend continues to look likely: 🔹Icing of bridges and overpasses could begin earlier than initially thought with black ice developing on untreated elevated roadways, though we could also see **treated** roads gather ice if the heavy rain washes away the pre-treatment that has been sprayed by TXDOT this week. 🔹This could marginally increase the overall freezing rain/ice totals through the entirety of the event, but I don't think that happens to a degree that changes the overall threats that we've discussed this week. Travel impacts are still expected to be widespread while power outage issues will generally be isolated. 🔹An overall colder trend may have us reverting to an original forecast that called for below-freezing temperatures from Saturday morning all the way through Monday morning and could keep ice on some roads for a little longer, perhaps into Monday morning. All of this to say that even 24 hours away from this winter storm getting started, there are still going to be some important shifts that we all need to pay attention to as we plan our weekend. Please continue to follow along closely. More updates to come on a busy Friday morning.- Winter Weather 2026 - I Can Haz Cold Front?

Remember going outside to scoop up snow and then melting it so you could flush your turds with leaf and twig water? That's why people are freaking out.- Winter Weather 2026 - I Can Haz Cold Front?
Remember how I suggested wiping with that first model run? This is what happens when the first one is not doing the job and you need another model run. Fold it in half - it works better On the breaking pasta...- Winter Weather 2026 - I Can Haz Cold Front?
WTF is that model run? From everything I've seen, you can probably use that as TP. On panic buying... y'all, this is why you make your purchases about 5 days out. Just buy crap you would eat either way and you're good. People who wait to the last minute hoard a bunch of crap. I just planned out three big meals with leftovers that would work for Saturday/Sunday/Monday and have other stuff at home to fill in the details, as necessary. I mean, I can make pasta for days if necessary... LOL- Winter Weather 2026 - I Can Haz Cold Front?

This is exciting! Are you excited? I'm excited! Also from Tomasco... Tuesday afternoon thoughts after taking some new data into consideration 🔹Impactful winter storm continues to look LIKELY this weekend. Significant accumulation of ice across the middle of the state (freezing rain/sleet) will make travel very hazardous starting Saturday. Snow is more likely over the northern tier of Texas. 🔹The trend over the last 24 hours has been towards colder temperatures through the duration of the event. The cold front arrives Friday morning/early afternoon in Central Texas, temperatures fall below freezing by sunrise Saturday, and could continue to drop into the 20s through the day. We may not get above freezing all day Sunday even as ice/snow clear to the east during the second half of the day. 🔹A colder scenario may actually be beneficial for precipitation type transitions. If the bulk of precipitation falls as freezing rain, then the threat for power outages (some lengthy) increases, but if temperatures trend colder, sleet would become more likely. That still makes roads a mess, but the power stays on. 🔹Please continue to monitor the situation closely. Now is the time to start thinking hard about where you are going to be this weekend, how you will stay warm, and what you will need to do should power outages due to ice accumulation occur. I'll be sharing more tips on those topics in the coming days. Sidenote, there's some silly rhetoric going around of "tHiS iS lOoKiNG jUsT aS bAd Or WoRsE tHaN 2021" which just does not commute, scientifically and from an unnecessary hype perspective. The cold this weekend does not even come close to the intensity or longevity of the cold back in 2021, and it's essentially 24-36 hours of an ice or snow threat this weekend vs the three back-to-back-to-back winter storms in February 2021 that made roads impassable for nearly a week. This weekend just does not compare to the once in a generation event most of us lived through 5 years ago. Just ignore all of that hyperbole you may come across. Being prepared is most important at the end of the day. Another full rundown of events and new data coming your way in the morning.- The Italy Thread
So, uh, let's be fair... without taking this to CR, do you wonder if we're actually going to be able to travel to Italy in the coming months?- Winter Weather 2026 - I Can Haz Cold Front?
If it was regular rain, I would agree with you. But since it will be ice, we'll get plenty and like it.- ChatGPT AI Tool— We all work for robots now

Anyone tried anything like this? I mean, I am so sick of crap AI results in Chrome (and Instagram, etc) but if I want to use AI, I'll go use it. Stop forcing terrible AI output on me. Thoughts? Custom Search Engine (Chrome): Go to Chrome settings, then "Search engine" > "Manage search engines." Add a new engine with the URL: {google:baseURL}search?q=%s&udm=14 (this &udm=14 forces web-only results). Set it as your default search engine.- The Italy Thread

Can confirm all of this. Honestly it's a great city but not to toddle around as a tourist but the food is splendid. Caffe Terzi worth a stop, BTW. Agree on Ferrara. Also Imola and Dozza. You can combine Imola and Dozza into a day trip. Also Sorbara Is a great town for food and wine, not far from Bologna if you have a car.- The Italy Thread
In the summertime, clothes on the clothesline dry so fast. Its pretty amazing. Someone needs to explain to me how long it takes in winter because we've always done it in the summer. Oh, and anyone renting an apartment, washing machines are incredibly slow in Italy. If you're lucky you'll find a house with a combined washer/dryer that will have your clothes ready by the 2032 primary.- Texas Roster 2026

Welp, my two big Monterey Oaks have not started their leaf drop in earnest so I'm sure that's going to go swimmingly if we have an ice storm- The Italy Thread
I mean, I like staying in the countryside or just on the outskirts of Bologna. You could stay in Borgo Panigale and have easy access to the countryside but then you can go into Bologna proper. You'll also be super close to the Ducati Museum/Factory. I have not been to the Lamborghini Museum but have been to Maranello at the original Ferrari museum. That's pretty cool. BUT if this is open the Umberto Panini Museum was really cool. Used to be Panini's private collection and last time we went it was free but I think they charge now but it looks like they built a new building. Before you could visit it for free and you could see Panini's home, where they made parmigiano, buy their wine, etc. I don't know if the new location has that: COLLEZIONE MASERATI UMBERTO PANINI APS MOTOR MUSEUMCollezione Maserati Umberto Panini APSLa Collezione Maserati Umberto Panini APS non è solo un museo, ma il risultato di una passione incondizionata per il marchio del Tridente. If you want, you can stay between Bologna and Modena in an agriturismo. The last time we stayed in that area, we were right by Castelvetro di Modena. We stayed here: Opera02 Società Agricola s.r.l. | Ristorante, Resort e Cantina Vinicola -Home - Opera02 Società Agricola s.r.l. | Ristorante, Reso...Opera02, a unique destination featuring a winery, restaurant, and resort with a wellness spa in Levizzano di Castelvetro. Enjoy traditional Emilian cuisine, organic wines, and exquisite balsamic vineg I have a friend who has a B&B outside of Bologna but I would say in a less convenient area for what you would want to do. While it is absolutely beautiful, I would recommend elsewhere. For Borgo Panigale, we've stayed here https://www.borghettibologna.com/ (cool little apartments in a protected courtyard area but you're kind of closed off from the world. Pros and cons). We also stayed in a different apartment on a different trip that while it was nice and super interesting, it didn't have A/C. I DO NOT recommend that in Bologna in the summer. Also stayed at a place called Hotel del Borgo - nice little hotel but nothing special. Great location for Ducati and to get out of town but on a main road. I would go back to Castelvetro, even if not in the same exact place. Lots of great local wine, vinegar, local meats, cheeses, etc. Just poke around on Google Maps and see what you find near there and outside of Maranello. The best restaurants are the simple ones in the countryside. Not super fancy. Trattorie in the country are the best (for me). Poking around I found this place near Castelvetro di Modena - https://www.cavaliera.it/- The Italy Thread
I've eaten snacks in the parking lot LOL. But yeah probably should visit it. I've heard its amazing. We stopped in the parking lot and ate some arrosticini after visiting Genga. Used to be free but I heard they charge for it now. www.frasassiexperiences.comMADONNA OF FRASASSI SHRINE - Frasassi ExperiencesThe new temple was made of white travertine blocks extracted from a stone quarry above the cave- Winter Weather 2026 - I Can Haz Cold Front?
