Appreciate the link. I looked for it but couldn't find it. I didn't even realize they were able to establish a control group. That makes the "hurr durr everyone is fat and sick in the study" argument even stupider. Their control has the same characteristics as the test population. There is probably still a skew towards the unwell on the test group side. But we're not flying blind. They were able to control for ICU admits vs. non ICU admits, low-risk vs. high-risk, etc. You're talking a 720-830% increase in risk. The weaknesses they mentioned are disclaimed in just about every study like this and at least one of their acknowledged issues would mean the study underestimated the impact. "I looked through the data tables and there are several problems. I’m not going into them here." Weak, dude. "This statistical study is totally wrong but I'm not going to tell you why but trust me it totally sucks". I don't see anything wrong with what they've presented. The first table just shows the test population vs. the general population. The rest are their results comparing the test population to a mirrored control group. The only issue with this study is that it's not peer-reviewed and I assume that's coming. But the only thing peer-review would catch is gross error (IE someone fat-fingered something in Excel) or straight up fraud. Fraud is unlikely given that it's the government of the UK. I also want to see the detail behind how they built the control group. The way they explain it makes perfect sense, but I'd like to see the actual methodology behind building it (whether code or manual process). All-in, it's a well done study and barring egregious incompetence or fraud, it should hold up to peer review. Cliff's notes: - Your link makes the "they're all fat and sick" argument even dumber - It looks like a pretty good statistical analysis to me. I'd love to hear your alleged objections to it.

I acknowledged that in my post. It's still well beyond the edge of reason to believe that a control group consisting of a like population would have died at a rate of 1 in 8 within 6 months. They might be diabetics, overweight, etc. They weren't terminal cancer patients. It's beyond the boundary of reason to write it off as "they're all fat!". Fat olds die at about 130% the rate of not fat olds. Not 1000% or more which is what you're proposing. I don't expect Cheese to know better but you do. It's absurd.

Doubt they had enough nonwhites but they could have done it for gender which would have been interesting. Maybe they did and it's just not in the tweet

Mouth breathing dumb fuck with the intellectual curiosity of a tree stump who has been wrong as much as one could possibly be wrong about this pandemic doesn't read the article or attempt any sort of serious discussion. Instead throws out a useless one-liner that helps him feel less threatened by things that disrupt his worldview. Film at 11:05. The median age of the people that died in the study was 65. You think that it's normal for a group of people with a median age of 65 to have a six-month death rate of 12.5%? Even with health conditions? Holy hell that's dumb.- Trump Impeachment 2: Insurrection Boogaloo
He saw that 34% approval rating. By summer of next year, polling is going to show that about 3% of the country voted for Trump and 97% voted for Biden or Gary Johnson.- Identifying Trump rioters
We broke the back door of the capitol building down and forced our way in, but besides that, no damage caused! The privilege just continues to ooze off of these people.- COVID-19 vaccine discussion

Make sure it goes through Sweden! Just busting your balls. I tend to think there's a lot of underpromising in the scientific community and that between existing immunity and vaccines, we're going to be back to normal sometime this summer. You might be right pretty soon here.- COVID-19 vaccine discussion
It's going to create a ton of chaos when we get into more of the general public stages. People are going to be vaccine hunting all over the place. I generally believe in localized government but this is a case where there should be state, if not federal standards. Without any coherency on those levels, we've predictably found ourselves in a mess. But yeah, what Austin is doing is pretty dumb.- Formerly DT: COVID-19 - Featuring Lots of Politics, now CR because political talk not going away
One of these times, probably after the vaccine rollout, you're going to be right about this. And then you can tell everyone you correctly predicted four of the last one times Covid ran out of steam.- Tiger Woods documentary on HBO
I couldn't disagree more with this. The Last Dance was basically a Michael Jordan autobiography/self-fellatio. There were no deep dives into anything beyond surface level. It was a whitewashed Disney version of a very complex and dark person. The Tiger documentary was honest and fair and covered all sides. It was real. The Last Dance was not real. It was a blast and a great trip down nostalgia lane but it was fiction. It was what Michael Jordan wanted people to perceive Michael Jordan as.- Formerly DT: COVID-19 - Featuring Lots of Politics, now CR because political talk not going away

This is all well thought out and fine and good but I'm pretty sure they buy guns instead of chemicals because nobody ever took a badass Parler profile picture with a vial of anthrax.- COVID-19 vaccine discussion
I'm guessing it's a combination of taking care of underserved communities and making sure it gets to that those who would suffer financial hardship if they were hospitalized with Covid. But it seems short sighted in a way. If the goal is to slow down the spread, you want to get people who have the most contact with others. That would be employed people, and a large portion of those folks are getting excluded with the "people who have insurance" barrier. Yeah, I know a lot of front line workers don't have insurance. But HEB and Costco employees do. Teachers do. A lot of childcare workers do. A lot of critical Craft Workers and Tradesmen do. Those people should be at the front of the line ahead of the unemployed.- Inauguration Week Insurrection Tour: 50 States, Groupies, Guns.
Proof that Biden reads surly.- COVID-19 vaccine discussion
Interesting where we're seeing high uptake of the vaccines. I have no theories on why certain areas are so high. Nice to see SA and Austin doing pretty well since I'm right between the two. Counties over 200k people: At least 20k people:- COVID-19 vaccine discussion
I don't think that takes anything away from Texas' success. For us to be anywhere near the top given the incredible size, both geographically and population-wise, is strong. Credit to state and local leadership when and where it's due. Good job, Texas.- Joe Biden 2021
Sure, but I see no reason for former presidents to continue to receive security briefings. They are private citizens and they are old and at risk for dementia and the like.- Joe Biden 2021
Wait, do all former presidents receive security briefs after they retire? Why? None of them should.- NFL coaching carousel thread
This is the Chargers new coach. I'm 90% sure this guy is just Philip Rivers with a fake ID- Bucs @ Saints: NFC Divisional Round Game
I have literally zero hate for Brady. I actually like him more than just about anyone that's not a Pats fan. He's easily the best of all time and I have a ton of respect for his career and where he came from.
