  1. Used to go to Jackson every year. I have not been in years, so info may be dated. My go to eats were breakfast at the Bunnery and dinner at Teton Thai, Snake River Grill or Billy's (which I think closed). All decent food for a small town, but nothing you really need to go out of your way for. On the way out of town to go fishing or hiking each morning, would generally pick up a sandwich at Creekside Deli and throw that in a cooler for lunch. I don't have good fishing guide recs, but if you want a few suggestions of spots to try by yourself then PM me. I'm no expert, but there are a few spots I have had good luck in the past.
  2. He could probably still be good in another league, but nobody wants to pay those wages.
  3. Adams is a lock to start for the senior team so I am happy he is there. If Sargent gets significant minutes in the Gold Cup, then that is great too. Guys who can meaningfully contribute at that level should be working on gelling with the senior team. It would be fun to see those guys on the U20 and up our win chances a bit, but there is not a ton of prestige in winning this. Its not like France are trotting out Mbappe and Guendouzi for this tournament.
  4. That was my sentiment before this tournament. But he has not been great. Probably not in the top 3 players on this u20 side. I think there is a reason Sargent and Adams are on the senior team already while Weah is still u20. I still think Weah gets there and ends up being good, but he has a ways to go.

I take my parents and in-laws to Jack Allens when they visit. They are all old and love it.
  6. The bad news is your son will have to join a street gang. The good news is that he will have plenty of options. In in all seriousness, best thing will be proximity to the sierras.
  7. Stress on the marriage from kids happens to everybody. But you can be intentional about fixing some of the problems -- which typically come down to a lack of spending quality time together without the kids. We have a standing date night every weekend (and a regular babysitter). It helps a lot.

Vespaio is still my favorite for sure. L'oca d'oro is also very good and seems to get overlooked -- probably due to location.
  9. I remember ManU and Arsenal winning the double quite a few times. If only someone would have told Fergie or Wenger that the treble was such a huge accomplishment . . . they may not have trotted out academy teams in the vaunted Carling Cup.
  10. Is Ornstein as reliable when reporting on other clubs as he is on Arsenal? His Arsenal info is usually spot on.
  11. Its way down the list for me. I still enjoy the catching part, but it is secondary. I once fished with a guy in Wyoming that had literally clipped the lower part of the hook off his flies. He only fished dries and just liked watching native cuts rise to a fly. Don't think I will ever go that far, but I thought it was an interesting approach.
  12. I would say its underrated among any cohort that does not recognize it as one of the (if not the) finest singer-songwriter album ever made. But thats just me.
  13. These wont be new to anyone, but a few favorites: The Dead's Europe '72, The Last Waltz, Nirvana Unplugged
  14. All of the places you mentioned are fine options. Hyde Park is the most walkable, and it tends to have a lot of rentals with grad students living in them. Not a bad choice if single. Of the places you mentioned, Allandale has the largest lots and best elementary school, so it tends to attract families. The neighborhood has a bit of a crunchy vibe, but it also has a lot of professionals and folks that work in tech. Crestview/Brentwood would be slightly less professional and slightly more hipster than Allandale. You should also look into Rosedale.
  15. After reading the most overrated restaurants in Austin thread, I realized some of my food opinions may be unpopular. Here goes: - breakfast tacos are better with a strip of bacon (not pieces) and should have re-fried beans - The influx of "Californians" to Austin is making the food better -- not worse - y mas is the most overrated restaurant in Austin (at least by Surly)
  16. I have an old Dave Scadden inflatable kayak that I traded a fly rod for. Its portable and OK for fishing ponds where I don't have to paddle far. It would probably be good for paddling rivers so long as the river did not have any flat water that required heavy paddling, but I never use it on rivers. You have to fish from a seated position, its slow, it tracks like shit, and it is a pain to inflate every time I want to use it. I also have an old two man cataraft, which has not been used in years and I have just been too lazy to sell -- it is also a pain to row and takes way too long to inflate/set up. And I have a SOT fishing kayak. The SOT kayak gets used 99% of the time. For our waters in Texas, a hard SOT kayak is unquestionably the way to go -- especially one that is stable enough to fish while standing (like a Native, Diablo, or one of the bigger Jackson models). But our rivers have a lot of flat water and relatively minor rapids. Western rivers tend to have more current and more significant rapids, which would make an inflatable much more doable.
  17. I don't think anyone does. Its best quality is that the bakery next door has a decent Kouign-amann.
  18. Not anymore. Thats what Instagram is for now. Try to keep up.
  19. One of the best alt-country albums ever. Not necessarily overlooked by modern fans of the genre. But this was recorded in 1972 and not widely released until the 1990s after the individual members had established solo careers.
  20. You may want to consider staying in Carmel w/ day trip to Big Sur. The drive between Big Sur and Carmel is spectacular (and what many people are actually referring to when they say "Big Sur"). And there are more options for places to stay in Carmel -- unless you are Surly 1% and want to stay at the Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur. Also, I know there are multiple Napa threads here you can check out, but, FWIW, I would book a place to stay in St. Helena or Calistoga rather than the town of Napa.
  21. Very true. I used to live in Cal and spent exponentially more time in my backyard than I do in Texas. We probably ate dinner on our back patio more often than we did in the house. It was also nice not having/needing an air-conditioner (and having lower bills as a consequence).
  22. If you are into the camping/nature thing and the wife wants wine country, then check out Sonoma County (especially the coast) or maybe even Paso Robles (with a side trip to Big Sur). Napa is beautiful and has fantastic wine/food, but it also has a kind of Disney Land feel to it. Some of the other wine regions in California feel much more natural.
  23. Because you don't miss the brisket when they are serving beef cheeks. Also, when they do serve brisket, its fantastic.
