Stroh seemed fine but the plays at 5:05 and 7:25 scare me. Happened later in the game as well but it wasn’t as bad. Just worried that playing a guy that has that done to him consistently sets a really low floor for the OL, especially in short yardage and RZ situations. Both of those reps were against Eddrick Houston, so maybe other teams can’t replicate it, but UF and UGA can at least.
There’s no way in hell that I’m subjecting myself to reading through all the toxic threads on the board, so for those interested, here are some extended thoughts on the offense after a rewatch
My MVP
Arch and passing game generally
OL
I wonder if the Texas and OSU 9.95ers met up at the same OL graveyard to go whistling or if they’re doing it independently. I assume Snook would be too far for the OSU guys. Anyways, looking forward to both of these great OLs battle it out Saturday.
lol he’s not the one getting his ass kicked. Multiple people have disagreed with you and the rest of us know you’re wrong but don’t see the point in arguing about it in this thread (wait, fuck, I got baited)
I guess they've manufactured enough depth that they can stop strategically re-injurying Goosby
Sark's comments about Neto having a good fastball got some (not too much) press as praise, but it kind of read to me like Neto might be too one-dimensional to enable the full offense
You’ve probably already seen that we like our pass rush this year, so some of our skepticism about a guard kicking out to LT is whether they can handle pass rushers with elite speed and/or bend like Simmons, Hill, and Spence.
I don’t have a PFF sub but I’d be interested to see game-by-game grades. Their OL seemingly improved over the course of last season (some of which was scheme change) while ours did not. All the stats I’ve seen posted are full season grades. I think the postseason grades would be more informative.
Even with that said, there’s still some missing links, as has been discussed in this thread. Improvement last year doesn’t necessitate the best OL ever this year.
Health is the big question, but our perception of our RBs last year will be very different than yours if you only watched the semifinal game.
Blue was very limited as a runner and a horrible pass blocker. With fumbling issues to boot. He was confined to a role as a pass catcher with some upside for explosives on the ground if a play was very well blocked or a defense messed up their fits.
Wisner was our best back, but he has physical/size limitations and was worn down to the point of ineffectiveness by the time we played.
The group on Saturday should be much more well-rounded at the very least. Baxter, even if not fully healthy, will be our best short yardage back and pass blocker. We missed both of those dynamics badly last year. So better than what we had last year but not as good as what y’all had (at least early in the season).
I'm planning on the 4.99 sling day pass for our ESPN/2/3 games this year. Haven't decided on an option for this Saturday. Currently looking at antenna options. That would cover FOX and ABC right?
Other sites listed here are the fallback. I'll contribute with https://therealstreamhub.site/showthread.php?tid=1466. They were awesome for college baseball in the spring.
Obviously not a fan of on-field sponsors, but at least this is a corp founded by UT researchers and launched out of the university. Not many other universities can say that. Plus the product seems to have already been used by the AD for awhile.
The UT institution where I work (not Austin) has a department that helps researchers launch companies when they invent something in exchange for a stake in the company. Curious if there’s an arrangement like that here.
The other guy they mention moving up (Curry) would be displacing the DE transfer from UNC that’s been getting a ton of hype
I can’t say I’ve paid attention to OSU narratives all off-season but it does seem like some big shifts a week before the game
It’s pretty funny that Casey fucking Thompson, throwing to freshman a pretty poor receiving outfit, has the highest deep shot percentage for any Sark QB since his return to college
I think Wingo has a really high statistical floor this year. There’s been a lot of talk about the deep ball this offseason and we haven’t spent as much talking about who can be our YAC-getter in the screen game (like back when we talked about who could take over for Keilan Robinson). It’s not a singular guy, but an important part of Sark’s offense. Wingo’s ability to run after the catch was his best trait last year. I’m expecting that to carry over. I bet he has 5+ catches in the first half against Ohio State with the majority being quick, short throws. He’ll also catch bombs of course. His ceiling is TBD based on how he developed in all the nuanced parts of the position over the offseason.
I’m in the contingent that is skeptical of Deandre Moore being a real high-end WR, but if he does make that leap it will be the first time that Sark has a guy that combines the gritty, JWhitt-esque elements with someone that is also a complete receiver. Opens up the possibility to really grind in 12 personnel with three skill position players that can contribute as blockers while also having 3+ guys that can create explosives without it being schemed for them.
I would usually agree, but the warehouse might put enough of a premium on his ability to push BO&W in a locker to promote him. They just also have to auto-delete any emails he sends from his company account. Like giving the little brother a controller that isn’t plugged in.
Adding to this - the 2023 bama game would have gotten us in over them if Jordan Travis didn’t break his leg. Some of these games can be more than resume boosts and just straight up make it a H2H decision.
PK has already made several significant changes as staff have come and go. It’s one of his strengths. The defense this year will probably be a blend of things, but that’s already a departure from our defense the last couple years.
I believe an informed poster here said that Joseph was the one that pushed the two-high looks we majored in Sark’s first three years. We already started getting away from that last year but I think it’s an indicator that we’ll see pretty big changes with our defensive pass game coordinator exiting.
Bijan and Rojo ran for ~6 ypc with a combination of Hudson Card, Casey Thompson, and Frosh Ewers. There were a lot of issues with our run game last year and we don’t have to pin all of it on Quinn. There have been effective run offenses that didn’t have a great QB to stretch the field for a literal century.
Related note - if the run game is better this season, let’s not just heap all the glory on Arch and discredit all the RBs and OLs that will have had a more direct impact on that.
There are federal regulations that require airlines to allow customers to cancel flights within 24 hours of booking for a full refund. So I’ve done that (book flight just before game then cancel right after if we lose) a couple times
Booking has to be made at least 7 days before the flight which works when there are 10 days between games
