After thinking about it a bit more, I think the spanking is better described as merciful than merciless

Negative Recruiting Your Own School: The aggy Screenshot Megathread
I just can't imagine how fucking stupid I'd feel getting up and wholeheartedly singing "varsity's horns are sawwwwed off" after watching varsity hire away my school's most successful coach and mercilessly spank me on the football field in the span of six months

- Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
If you want to post stuff like this, more context on what they actually said would be appreciated Bell has done an interview and mentioned sitting behind Arch for a year, so he (like everyone else around Texas) already knew he was returning before Archie’s comment- Texas A&M Football 2025 - On the Edge of Glory(holes)
This would be a really depressing read if I were an A&M fan- Texas A&M Football 2025 - On the Edge of Glory(holes)
From what I remember, A&M didn’t want him either until we flipped Anthony Hill (he was #970 in the 247sports composite)- Arch Manning: Scores every way possible
The Score links it gives don’t work fwiw- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
It sounds like Shaw has separated as a starter on the DL. I’ve expected Bravard to start all offseason long and also penciled in Watson once we added him. But we’re now two weeks into camp including a couple days with full pads, so the smoke on Shaw is becoming more legit in my eyes.- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again

Hell, back in 2020 Sark dialed up multiple play action deep shots against A&M in the 4th quarter while up 21+. I can’t link directly to the plays from mobile but the time stamp for the one that connected is 20:31. It came on second down while Alabama was up 45-24 with less than 6 minutes on the game clock. All of Alabama’s starters were in. I also think 2020 Alabama is worth watching given what is expected from our offense next year. We don’t have the speed at WR or general awesomeness at RB (I think we’re a year and health away there), but there’s some stuff we’ll see reappear and complement some of the things Sark added to the offense the last couple years (like TE leak).- Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
Took a minute to look back at some of our past rankings in the Sark era. 2021 - #15 - 248.65 2022 - #5 - 289.04 2023 - #3 - 304.09 2024 - #6 - 286.90 2025 - #1 - 312.27 2026 - TBD - 289.05 This class is shaping up pretty similarly to the 2023 class in terms of score/rank, size, and 5 star distribution (QBs: Manning/Bell; LBs: Hill/Atkinson; B last names: Baxter/Bishop). The 2024 class ranked lower because we only had 22 signees. But to the discussion about the 2022 class, it could have as many contributors this year (between 9 and 14) as ‘22 did any year (14 if you’re being generous). A 50% contribution rate on a title contending team is pretty outstanding. *2024’s 14 possible contributors this year: Simmons, Wingo, Baker, Black, Gibson, Umeozulu, Washington, Livingstone, January, Mack, Smith, Kibble, Clark, Johnson-Rubell **2022’s 14 contributors (generously defined): Campbell, Banks, Brooks, Blue, Finkley, Guilbeau, Umeozulu, Murphy, Agbo, Hutson, Burke, Williams, Robertson, Red- Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
FWIW Jake Kreul, Izayia Williams, and Malakai Lee would move us to 303.99 in the 247 rankings.- Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
I read the DT note as meaning the pursuit/addition of a fifth DT is not being talked about, not that the player would be a sleeper.- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
What's the confusion about? They've been hitting, just not tackling to the ground. Athletes get injured playing basketball and they wear shorts- Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
We dodged a Bijan-sized bullet with that one My favorite Zach Evans memories (IIRC): He was going to attend a recruiting weekend for JMBLYA back when Herman did that and just straight up turned around and went home when the show got cancelled due to rain His brother legit wanted to fight one of my idiot friends that talked shit on twitter. DM’d him asking for an address, sent a picture of a gun, etc- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
I made a post about this in the 2024 gaskamp thread. The only candidates to me are Neto, Conner Robertson, and Will Stone. I think Burke, Guilbeau, and Campbell are the only other guys from the 2022 class still on the roster and none of them qualify for the Gaskamp. That 22 class busted super hard outside of the OL. Part of the reason we’re such a young team this year (in addition to elevating the talent since, transfers both ways, etc). The OL haul will always be great though.- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
I’ve officially talked myself into Jerrick Gibson becoming RB1 (1b with Wisner?) this year, so I hope he can make up for some of the difference we’re seeing post-Bijan- Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
He cried defending Harbaugh in an interview as interim then beat OSU in year one. Agree that he’s got more than two bad years worth of goodwill. Not to mention the investments they’ve made in the roster make a move less likely Sharma is a good call- Annual Russell Gaskamp Award Nomination & Discussion Thread
Bumping this thread to bring back the convo for 2025. I’d give the award to Broughton for 2024 (see my pre-season post upthread for why) This year’s candidates are: - Will Stone. Yeah he’s been our kickoff specialist, but if Shipley gets injured and he hits some big kicks in postseason play, he could become a legend and fit the spirit of the award - Connor Robertson. He played significant snaps once against OU as a RS freshman. He’s pretty much been forgotten about since, so he’s a good candidate, but likely only gets his chance in the case of injuries - Neto Umeozulu. The overwhelming favorite. Despite the many calls for him to replace Hayden Conner, Neto has barely played and not looked particularly good in the limited action we’ve seen. Frankly, he might be the biggest question mark of all projected starters currently (which is not nearly the negative it was a few years ago). A good year for Texas likely means Neto gets to take home this illustrious award The current group of transfers are non-starters in my eyes. Campbell, Hutson, Taaffe, Guilbeau, and Burke have played too much and too well to be eligible. The rest of the 2022 class is either in a NFL training camp or transferred out.- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
I fully expect the defense to be elite and have never said otherwise. I opted for brevity in my post above but I can go into detail. I don’t think we’ll force as many turnovers. 22 INTs last year was the most we’ve had in 15 years (side note: 25 in 14 games in 2009 is absurd). We had 16 twice since then with a typical number being 10-15 (more games now means a slight uptick in expected number of course). Taaffe is the only DB that has shown similar to instincts to Barron and Mukuba, which can be developed but is also something that will often show immediately in the elite guys (like Barron in 2022). Beyond our personnel, this defense could also be worse statistically without an actual drop in quality due to the step up in QB play we’re likely to see this year. And I don’t mean that to take away anything from last year’s defense. They were awesome. I can’t stress enough that this is not a ‘they ain’t played nobody’ post. We just might not get the same gifts from Sayin and Lagway that we got from literal walk-ons a year ago. Of course there are reasons for optimism. Atticus mentioned McDonald and Williams. I really like both of them. Williams particularly seems like a guy that creates turnovers, including fumbles. I still remember Sark talking him up as a future first rounder in his ‘23 signing day press conference and he’s been great when he’s played. I’d add Hill and Lefau in there as well. Jaylan Ford led the team in INTs in 2022 because he was so good at pass drops. Hill and Lefau had 1 each last year and could easily combine for a couple more due to continued improvements in drops (Hill) and increased playing time (Lefau). Point is, we’re going to develop guys and have an awesome defense but I’m expecting the INT number to drop a bit towards the 1/game number, which is still good. And to the other end of the turnover and field position discussion, our defense stands to benefit from fewer short fields due to our own turnovers, missed field goals, and blocked/fake punts. It was pretty incredible how well the defense held up when put into bad situations last year.- Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
Banks and Williams were pre-Lanning- Texas Football 2025 - Seven Win Steve Rides Again
It’s kind of crazy for this OTF poster to think we’re going to increase that percentage next year. Barron and Mukuba were a big part of that. Paul Waddlington pointed out that Guilbeau and Muhammad have combined for 1 turnover in their careers. Turnovers on both sides of the ball for us will probably go down next year.- Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
Oregon with Lanning doesn’t strike me as a flippable school. Neither would Georgia though, so who knows. I still think we’re more likely to feed on schools with coaching uncertainty or cash problems.- OU Football 2025 - Cheated Its Way To a Backdoor CFP Appearance
Cubelic is great though. He has us #2 in his DL rankings.- Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
Hager somehow made Bruce Feldman’s 2018 CFB Freaks list. That pretty much ruined the list for me - Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: Boulevard of Broken Bagmen
