2022 Big 12 Baseball Thread
11 straight wins for my Pokes. Now sitting at 18-6. We have a mid-week non-conference game against OUsux in Tulsa this week. Should be fun to smack them around again.

winning time: the rise of the lakers dynasty. hbo in march.
Yeah I'm 100% fine with not showing the basketball. We know how that turns out. The behind-the-scenes stuff of how it all came together is more interesting to me. But if I recall from the trailers, we will be seeing some basketball. "Larry Bird" is in the cast list also. So we'll definitely see some.

LOL this. I'm sure we'll lose our mid-week game to them, as per the norm.

LOL I thought the same thing. "He had this comb-over that was quite... elaborate..."

Yeah I had a weird memory like we played them in the Regionals or Super Regionals a few years ago, but I think I was thinking of St. John's. We played them in the Fayetteville Regional a few years ago.

Top 5 - Bands with 3 great consecutive albums
Thought of a few more - the first three Foo Fighters albums: Self-titled, The Colour and the Shape, There's Nothing Left to Lose Also - Stone Temple Pilots - Core, Purple, Tiny Music Another one where they have made 4 great albums, so really you just need to decide if you start with #1 or #2 - Turnpike Troubadours. Tough call because so many great songs are on their debut, but I'd go with: Goodbye Normal Street, The Turnpike Troubadours, A Long Way from Your Heart

Top 5 - Bands with 3 great consecutive albums
Wilco - You could probably pick any combination of their first 5 albums. I'll go with: Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, A Ghost is Born Old 97s - Wreck Your Life, Too Far to Care, Fight Songs Spoon - To be fair, they've made 9 consecutive great albums, but if I were to pick three, I'd go: Kill the Moonlight, Gimmie Fiction, Ga x5 Vampire Weekend - I think all 4 of their albums are great, so really the question is start with their debut or Contra? I'd probably do the latter, so: Contra, Modern Vampires of the City, Father of the Bride

I don't believe we are getting past season 1 at all. I read somewhere (Variety maybe?) that this show only covers the 1979-80 season. I think the idea is that we all know how it turns out, but this series shows how all of the pieces were put into place.

OSU completed the sweep of Seton Hall. Now have won 7 straight. And man, I was just looking at Seton Hall’s record they are 1-16 now. Like holy shit. It seems like it would actually be difficult to have a record like that in baseball. I have a memory that Seton Hall had a decent program, but maybe I’m thinking of something else? They’ve played a tough schedule, but still. Oddly enough, their only win is against Florida in Gainesville.

do you ever yearn?
You feel that “women and children first”, in this day and age, is a bit of an antiquated notion….

Left Behind: A Quick Dose Of Post Big 12 Reality
This. As for those estimates above, I'd love to understand what is driving the PAC to go from the lowest P5 payout in 2022-23 to the third highest after the SEC/B1G by 2029. Are the PAC schools going to get *more* engaged in CFB over the next decade? The new Big 12 will easily keep par with the PAC and ACC, and probably exceed the PAC just based on viewership/fan engagement down the road.

Yep. I'm also very much looking forward to more stuff with surly/grumpy Kareem.

LOL that killed me. Another great episode last night. Loved all of the stuff with Buss and Red Auerbach. Reiley continues to kill it.

RIP William Hurt
Agreed on both counts. Broadcast News is one of the top 10 favorite films of all time. The amazing thing is that it basically predicted where we were going with "newswertainment" in the mid/late 80s. And yeah he was fantastic as Hank Paulson in Too Big to Fail. "The Big Short" and "Too Big to Fail" make a great double feature. The cool thing is that, in terms of the timeline, Too Big to Fail picks up almost exactly where The Big Short leaves off. And also agreed that The Big Chill is great. I always loved his timing/delivery of this line when he's in the car with Mary Kay Place leaving the funeral: MKP: "The last time I spoke with Alex, we had an argument..." WH: ....[beat]... "That's probably why he killed himself."

Obi-Wan Series on Disney+ Staring Ewan McGregor
Oh don't worry. We can still blame Kathleen Kennedy for any parts of the Obi-Wan series that we don't like.

New Spoon record - "Lucifer on the Sofa"
Yes. It's quite choice. I've been listening to it a lot.

do you ever yearn?
Agreed. I will admit that I haven't seen it as much as other episodes since they yanked it from syndication years ago. But my wife (no pics) and I are huge Seinfeld fans and have re-watched the entire series multiple times on Hulu/Netflix. The Puerto Rican Day episode is almost aggressively un-funny and really stands out even among some of the more absurd episodes of the last two seasons. I mean, don't get me wrong... I love, love, love me a good Cedric and Bob appearance, but the whole episode is just very meh.

2022 NCAA Baseball News
Pre-pandemic I was down in Austin pretty regularly. I have several friends who live there, including my two best friends from OSU. I never made it down for a baseball series, just because timing never worked out, but I think I made just about every OSU football game down there for 10+ years, plus lots of other trips for weddings, SXSW, ACL Live concerts at Moody, etc. Now I've got a 1-year-old and another on the way so the road trips may dry up for a while, lol. Although Southwest just added a direct flight from Tulsa to Austin, so that will help the cause.

2022 NCAA Baseball News
I mean a lot of it is just shit luck with untimely hitting. We got swept by Gonzaga at home. All three games were 1-run games that could have gone either way. We were literally 3 hits away from sweeping that series instead of getting swept. That’s baseball, baby. Josh’s teams always start kind of slow. And our non-conference schedule is good enough that the RPI should be very strong once we get our feet under ourselves.
