  1. They would also look at the specific frequencies of IR radiation. Just like visible light, there is a range of frequencies/wavelengths of IR radiation, it isn't as simple as hotter=more IR. Sophisticated IR seekers would look at the particular spectrum of IR, and be designed to find spectra that are like tank engines, and not spectra like decoys, which might have a lot of IR but not really at the right frequencies.
  2. To be fair, that is pretty much exactly the accuracy of those pundits opinions on every other matter they have opined on. Which is 100% why they are on Fox News.
  3. As long as I have paid any attention to the metals market, there have been people saying that the paper and physical markets are coming apart and that Comex is about to collapse. Hasn't happened yet. As far as premiums for physical: The meaningful premium for the physical commodity metal is that on 1000 oz bars, which are the financial standard. These are modest now, nowhere NEAR 50%. The premiums on ASE's are related to retail fabricated products, in particular ones that are made by the US government. People who claim that premiums on ASE's represent premiums on silver as a commodity are people who COMPLETELY do not understand the difference between wholesale commodities and retail fabricated products. The common clay of the New West, you might say. As far as ASE's in particular: I think that the Mint, which buys its blank planchets from vendors, has changed their contract, in a way that made it a little cheaper for the Mint, but reduced the extent that the vendors have to sell as much as the Mint wants. At the moment, it is more profitable for these vendors to sell the planchets to others, so the Mint has less supply of planchets, so they are not minting as many ASE's as they would like to, and that there is demand for. Perhaps this was a poor choice for the Mint, but it does not in any way represent a breakdown of the commodity market.
  4. The human occupants of 10 Downing are a shambles, but Larry (who has a much longer tenure fwiw) has it figured out.
  5. Ahh, so hex paper is not just for wargaming nerds!
  6. GPS receivers do not send out signals, they cannot possibly be what is jamming things. The signals come from the satellites, and they are very weak, so it is not that hard to overwhelm them.
  7. This sounds somewhat likely. Remember that the choice will be made by the dues-paying members of the Tory party, nobody else will have a say.
  8. Of course, you can bet on who lasts longer. Current bookmaker odds favor the lettuce. I doubt it will be close.
  9. Yep. More and more ghosts of WWII keep coming to life.
  10. Is it really money laundering? I thought it was just boosting book 'sales' so you can pretend to be a best-selling author, but there is not really any financial fraud in it, and it doesn't fool anybody who pays attention.
  11. The Rice nanotechnology institute already has that one wrapped up.
  12. Eyeroll... Managing a website can be a PITA, and constantly dealing with complaining people is a whole lot like 'work' and I am happy that immamac bothers to put up with that shit so we all can make stupid drunk posts when we feel like it. There are certainly things that could be improved, but the above is just a petulant tantrum. Please unbunch your panties and do better. That said, the secret really is NoScript. (Sorry immamac, but I do run all the ads hosted by surlyhorns.com.)
  13. The true tell that this guy wasn't a real Trumper wan't the name 'Biden' on his shirt, it was the BMI inside the shirt...
  14. I'm not sure exactly what day OU weekend will be. Somewhere I got the idea it was the second Saturday in October, which would be 14 Oct next year. But I don't know for sure, and the fact that neither UT nor OU has a date on their schedule, tells me it is not quite set yet.
  15. I think that the remains of the shot-down F-117 were there, and the attack (by B-2 iirc) was intentional, though we denied this.
  16. Not all all. He is not using it anymore, so why not move it along to somebody who will use and enjoy it?
  17. pantone159 replied to Bottlecap's topic in Futbol
Doesn't (didn't?) the rugby team play there? The one time I have been to that stadium was for that.
  18. Yeah, nobody has ever said anything about cosmetic forehead things around here before.
  19. That is one advantage to collecting what is mostly bullion, compared to 'collector' things. It is a lot easier to value, mainly because the value is all in the physical material.
  20. I think this will be OU weekend, it is the second Saturday in October 2023. From the Cotton Bowl, this will be about an 80% partial eclipse, again from about 10:25 am to 1:30 pm.
  21. Somehow I missed the 2023 one as well. Austin will not get a total annular eclipse for this one, on Sat 14 Oct 2023, but it will get about a 90% partial eclipse, between about 10:25 am to 1:30 pm. To see the full annular eclipse (which may not be much more exciting than the 90% partial), head to about San Angelo.
  22. Total eclipse in Austin starts 1:36 pm on 8 Apr 2024, and lasts about 2 minutes. Head west a bit (e.g. Friedricksburg) to see the full length, about 4 minutes 30 seconds. It does take precise calculations, but the motion of the sun and moon are modeled with great precision, so the calculation can be one. One thing that is not known as well, is the rotation speed of the earth, it fluctuates unpredictably (which is the reason for the occasional leap seconds) and that will affect exactly where on the surface of Earth the path goes. But that is a relatively small adjustment. Fwiw, both Uluru/Ayers Rock in Australia, and Mecca in Saudia Arabia, are getting a total eclipse in the next couple of decades.
  23. Sounds to me like these boxes that held the classified documents also held some non-classified things mixed in as well. That is not a fuckup by the FBI, it is a description of the lack of care with which the classified documents were stored. And such non-secret things that were in these boxes are being sorted out and returned. And my passport does state specifically that it is the property of the US Government and can be reclaimed at any time. The only valid complaint is that Trump & Co were so sloppy in illegally storing the secret documents that they mixed in non-illegal things with them. That is 0% on the government and 100% on DJT.
  24. You mean Lady Gaga, and the song title is Poker Face, and the line is a reference to Texas Hold-em, as in the poker game.
