Dem ad script for every race in Texas this year: “Fuckhead McMagaface supports Donald Trump’s anti-2nd amendment stance…” cut to Trump saying “I DONT LIKE THAT HE HAD A GUN” (repeats 3 times with subtitles, then repeat again in slow motion)…”Fuckhead McMagaface supports a president married to an immigrant. Fuckhead McMagaface supports a president who couldn’t even name a single bible verse. McMagaface says he supports Trumps pro-inflation agenda. Fuckhead McMagaface is the anti-2nd amendment, anti-Christian, pro open borders candidate who will keep your costs rising…” cut to clip of Dem candidate standing with their family…“Dem McDogooder wants to work to keep your kids from being indoctrinated in schools…Dem McDogooder wants to keep the government out of your private life…Dem McDogooder wants to work to lower your healthcare costs, lower your grocery bill, and stop the federal government overreach. Vote for Dem McDogooder, or we’re all totally fucked.”
Yep. All this is doing is giving the Dems an excuse to spike the football on the 45 yard line and take their foot off the gas and give the GOP a chance to up the fuckery before November. Will be interesting to see if Trump tweets anything about it.
I don’t know if it’s still like this, but back when it was still in Kissimmee, the one year I went (maybe 2012 or 2013) my favorite day there was when the big league team was either away or on an off day. There were almost zero fans there, and you could just walk right up to the dugouts of the minor league games and listen to the coaches/scouts and watch the prospects play. You could also walk right up to the cage/field and watch the big leaguers take BP. All of that was free. Older stars (Biggio/Bagwell/etc.) visiting were just milling around shooting the shit, and all the players walking around the complex seemed way more friendly. For me it was really neat seeing that different side of the game.
That will be something I will be watching very closely. If against odds our democracy/society is intact when Trump dies, and if against odds he dies while he’s still the face of right wing populism, how his followers react to his death will be extremely telling for our future. If they react with violence against people celebrating his death, we’re cooked (which I expect us to be cooked before Trump dies, hell I think we are already cooked). If they react by acting like they never supported him, then we will be ok and could emerge better off if those people are held accountable to the truth of what they supported. If they react with silence then we are largely back where we were prior to Trump pulling the veil off the ugliness at the heart of our country, and it’s only a matter of time before we have to confront something like this again.
The more apt comparison would be Obama sending (mostly black) federal troops to Houston to round up “suspected tax evaders” and they are targeting only white males. Not only would the news anchors across EVERY STATION be blowing their skulls open about it, but there would be open civil war within days. But it’s not just that. Imagine Obama doing that while promoting a documentary about Michelle, pushing our closest allies and trade partners into the arms of India and China, and talking openly about invading Greenland. First of all Obama wouldn’t have survived a week of that behavior without being killed or removed from office. But if he did there would be riots and civil war across the entire South.
Anyone still supporting Trump is irredeemable. I had Trumpers in my life texting me celebrating the plane crash in Maine yesterday because the Arnold’s are Democrats. There’s no hope for those fuckers. It’s really sad because they aren’t bad people (or at least they weren’t always bad people) but trying to find the light or expecting them to figure it out is an exercise in futility.
All of this is plausible. Trump will issue a stimulus sometime between May and September; he will claim the tariff revenue is his to do with what he wishes. He will overthrow the government in Cuba before July 4th. He will do whatever he has to do (abolish the Fed, unilaterally appoint his own Board, etc.) to get interest rates low by July. Those things are pretty much guaranteed in my mind, and for me personally they won’t change my major life decisions. The bigger things that are still in conspiracy territory would be how much he fucks with the midterms and whether or not there is a staged “terrorist” attack that lets him declare martial law and/or lets him prevent elections or prevent newly elected officials from taking office. There’s also the possibility of him rigging elections. All of those things seem very possible but I am still skeptical they will actually happen. But if they do, I am going to send my family out of the country and join the fight against the authoritarian dictator. I really hope that doesn’t happen.
Lots can happen between now and then, but really the Dems hopes will rest on MAGA apathy toward the GOP nominee. If the stillborn ignorant gullible racist sexist dumbfucks who got excited for Trump don’t buy into Vance or whoever, they’ll stay home and the Dems will win, especially if the Dems avoid nominating someone who repulses a significant percentage of their base. If Trump’s successor somehow manages to keep MAGA engaged, Dems will need to elect a dynamic candidate who can get blacks and women to turn out alongside progressives. Just my opinion, but Latinos are a bad bet for the Dems to rely on.
I’m a little worried about the phase of life I’m entering. I am now in my late 40s and am having real trouble finding meaning in my life outside of parenting my kids, and in 10 years they will be adults, so my fear is that at that point I won’t have much driving me. Also, I come from an insanely large extended family and there are 40+ people very close to me who are over 70 years old. Statistically, attending funerals will be a very frequent activity for me over the next decade. I attended one last week and it really left me feeling empty. Fifty years after we are dead, nobody will ever think about us ever again. What’s the real meaning of all this? Religion just doesn’t work for me. Objectively, I really have a wonderful life; amazing family, wealth, tons of friends, relatively good health; but I’m always a little lost when I’m not distracted. I’m not very depressed right now, but I am anxious about how the rest of middle age is going to go. As I’ve posted about previously in this thread, I suffered from severe depression and suicidal ideation off and on (mostly on) from my youth to my mid 30s. At some point in my 30s I kind of figured out how to manage it and/or things changed in my life to make me less depressed. I am hopeful that I can continue to be proactive and keep the lowest lows at bay. But I really wish I could unlock whatever it is that lets people never ever think the universe would be better off if they were dead. I’m afraid that it might be just an ignorance or ceaseless distraction that I’m just not capable of. I don’t know why I’m posting this. I guess maybe somebody else is feeling something similar and maybe it’ll make them feel better that they’re not alone.
A LONG way to go, but Shapiro with Pete as veep would be my current choice for the ticket against Vance. Other options for POTUS would be Beshear or Newsom. Other options for veep would be Kelly or Moore or Klobushar. AOC would be a disaster on the ticket. Pritzker would too.
Vance won’t fight them because he IS them. He’s playing a part because he’s a spineless power hungry douche. Once Trump is out of the way Vance will try to use the MAGA leftovers to be POTUS but in terms of policy he will be nowhere near what Trump has been. He won’t treat his administration like a constant compaign rally, he won’t be as obvious in doing things solely to enrich himself or serve his ego. He will let rich people rape the environment and fuck over poor people just like every other GOP politician for the last half century, but he won’t be anything close to as dangerous and inept and evil as Trump as been.
The dodgers (and other high revenue teams) should be putting a lot higher % of their revenue into player payroll because overhead doesn’t increase with revenue at a 1:1 ratio.
Goosby Seaton (?) Baker Siani Barton (?) Sikorski Robertson Cojoe Newman Turntine I’d like one more decent depth guy, but that group of 10 seems good enough to be a strength.
I will be extremely surprised if the democrats take the house and utterly shocked if they take the senate. It’s not happening. The map doesn’t line up for them. Too many dumbass fucking stillborn evil gullible uneducated ignorant motherfuckers out there. It’s over. GOP will probably gain 1-2 senate seats and only lose a net 3-4 seats in the house. Trump is going to continue to wield the power of a medieval king through at least 2028. From there if there’s still a country to govern then maybe there’s a chance to start a long slow path to recovery. But for now the US appears to be in its waning days as a first world country.
I will feel pretty fuckin stoked about running out these starters in Game 1: QB Manning RB Brown/Smothers WR Coleman WR Wingo WR Mosley TE Townsend LT Goosby LG Sikorski C Robertson RG TBD RT Baker JACK Jackson DT Kanu NT Geffrard DE Simmons MLB Biles WLB Smith OLB Spence CB Phillips S Williams/Filsaime S McDonald CB Black STAR Littleton There are a lot of future NFL players on that list.
