Go to Zambia and you will experience a total lack of wildlife hardly even any birds either as they have all been killed off by the locals.

Elephants 1 - Poachers 0
A few years ago I was in India on business visiting a mine site in a remote area. I took a late flight on a Thursday night from Mumbai to Kokatta arriving late at night. The next morning we took a several hour drive from Kolkatta to the mine offices for the meeting. As we get to the reception area we asked to see Mr. XXX. Receptionist: He is not here. Us: How is he not here? He knew that we were coming from a great distance away for this meeting. Receptionist: He is at the hospital. Us: OMG. Is he OK? Receptionist: He is fine. His sister is in the hospital. Us: Oh, OK. What happened? Receptionist: She was attacked by a wild elephant in the village last night. Me: For real? (incredulous that such things actually happen) Receptionist: Yes, here is a report of it in the newspaper. Me: May I make of copy of this? Me (to myself): No one is going to believe that I had a meeting canceled due to a rogue elephant attack. The news report is below (interesting wording and grammar): We ate lunch. Got back in the car and drove back to Kolkatta. Took a late flight back to Mumbai.

The movie you just watched
The Old Man and the Sea with Spencer Tracy. First time to watch and I have never read the book either. Clueless going into the movie. Am I supposed to enjoy the film?

Yellowstone
Travel within the Yellowstone and GTNP can be dicey that time of year so you will need to take into consideration road closures. I also believe that there are already some road closures within Yellowstone due to construction. My girlfriend and I went to Yellowstone and GTNP the latter part of October 2020. We drove up from east Texas since we both enjoy driving/riding and seeing the countryside along the way. We entered the park in the Northeast Entrance and stayed at Mammoth Hot Springs Hotel (no TV's) for several days while we explored the upper central and northern part of the park hitting the usual sites. We then transitioned to Jackson and stayed at the Rustic Inn Creekside Cabins on the north side of town. They are really nice with fire pits around the property and teepees for the kids to play in. Moving to this location allowed us to explore the southern part of Yellowstone and the GNP with ease. We did more hiking in GTNP than in Yellowstone. For me, Yellowstone has more "site seeing" stops that you get out and walk around and explore whereas GTNP requires getting out and doing some hikes around the lakes, etc. There are hikes in both parks that are suitable. Just carry bear spray. We were there between the "prime seasons" so the lodging rates were lower. Plus the crowds were not so big either. Downside of going out-of-season, coupled with Covid, is that some amenities are closed. Food service in the parks is limited. There are several nice restaurants in Jackson so there are no issues in finding food for the evening. For food going into the parks we stopped at the Creekside Market and Deli each morning to pick up sandwiches for lunch. They are fantastic. Keep checking local conditions for that time of year to help plan on how to visit all of the parks.

Ever get annoyed by "that guy?"
I agree with this statement 100%. Though I do not hunt, I am not against hunting. I have just never seen the point except for shootings hogs.

Getting old sucks
I am at the age (almost 55) where I have to start determining the fine line of staying active and over doing it. It doesn’t take much to irritate something so yes, I have almost “chronic aches” but I can usually attribute it to something. I know my body well enough to know if something just hurts or there is an injury. I have always been super active (mainly through physical sports) so turning it down a bit is trial and error.

Driving Pet Peeves
I find it irritating when a LEO drives below the speed limit in the left hand lane and cars are afraid to drive the speed limit in the right hand lane and not pass them therefore causing traffic to back up behind both of them.

Similar situations in the past for me. The ex was a school teacher. A common occurrence that was pointless to argue: Ex: Will you take off tomorrow and do XYZ? Me: Sure. Ex: Thanks. It is so much easier for you to take off instead of me. Me: How so? Ex: Well, I have to instruct my substitute to take care of my students in my absence so that the work can still get done. Me: Oh, ok. Me (to myself): Who does my work for the day? I have no substitute. What does not get done in my absence only compounds itself.- Driving Pet Peeves
Sorry, but no. This is decent sized neighborhood that only has two entrances. This traffic circle is on one entrance and the other entrance is parallel to this one about 200 yards to the east. It does not have a traffic circle. This is the only traffic circle in the whole neighborhood and there are other parts of the neighborhood where it would make more sense to place a traffic circle(s) as the roads are longer. The traffic circle placed here is on a relatively short road. The posts in the circle have only recently been placed there after many years. The posts were placed there because of box trucks, landscaping trailers, etc. are too long or do not have the turning radius to go around the circle properly therefore they were clipping the turn and were driving through it leaving large ruts and/or damaging the vegetation.- Pics of parking douche baggery
Haha. There is a Books-A-Million there too along with an Office Depot.- Subpar Parks
It is a quick and easy visit (1 to 1.5 hour) that provides excellent views of the volcano and surrounding area. You can actually drive all the way up to the rim of the volcano. Once at the top you can hike (1 mile) the rim of the volcano which provides fantastic views of the surrounding area. You can also hike (.25 mile) down into the volcano. All is paved so it is easy. I was there in October and the clouds rolled in so the view was obstructed some but was still fantastic because I was above the cloud cover. Also walked up onto some mule deer. Down below you can hike some of the lava fields. However, if that is your thing then I would recommend visiting El Malpais NP. There is not much of a visitor center but if memory serves me correctly they did have a video about the park. It is also recognized for its stargazing. You can see my truck in the parking lot across the rim in the below pic.- Subpar Parks
Thanks a million. Driving many miles at a time does not bother me so I can cover a lot of distance in a relatively short time. Some of these have been trips that I have made alone so I am not on a schedule and can go and do it at whatever pace I want. My GF has made some of these with me and fortunately she is very flexible as well and usually defers to my planning and recommendations for trips. Also did a 2 week trip with daughter, granddaughter and SIL last November/December. Due to the age (18 months) of the granddaughter, we were on more of a schedule so we did a mixture of group and individual activities. All in all it is hard to go wrong in a Park.- Pics of parking douche baggery

What route would that be? All I remember is that there is a unpaved road coming in from the NE and a Scenic Byway on the SE side that never actually gets into the park.- The movie you just watched
I just watched the new Melissa McCarthy and Octavia Spencer comedy Thunder something. Don’t bother. Maybe one or two funny parts.- TCM's 31 Days of Oscar
Yeah, these Reagan short movies are....interesting. Watched one last night where he is in the Army rescues a horse that is a world class jumper. I am big into WW2 so I found the military stuff fun.- Ever get annoyed by "that guy?"
I routinely play basketball with a guy that gets “injured” multiple times each game with theatrics that will rival any foreign soccer player. He hobbles around for a minute or two and then drives the lane with some crazy moves. One day he will get hurt but no one will pay attention because of his antics. He is a good player but the act gets old.- Subpar Parks
Arches is one of my favorites. I really enjoy hiking in the Devil’s Playground area. So many great views and rock formations.- TCM's 31 Days of Oscar
