ACC Championship - #14 Louisville vs #4 FSU - 7pm on ABC
And a shit ton of favorable calls incoming to benefit FSU. ACC wants them in the playoffs. Yeah, Big 10 and ACC are going to try to get a team in the playoffs. Big 12 would love to keep theirs out.

Game Week 13, 2023: Texas v OSU championship edition
I think that was around the time that the SEC was running ads with the slogan, "Every game matters" ... except that they were the one conference that every game DIDN'T matter, because they seemed to get more mulligans than anyone. Bama scored 3 points on their home field, and they got a do-over. But Oklahoma State - every game actually did matter for them. It was bullshit.

When I'm on the committee, the first consideration is going to be, "Did you play an FCS team?" and if the answer is yes, you're out. It's kind of bullshit to reward a non-con win over Southeastern Tallahassee School of Acupuncture (Look at that margin of victory!), and ignore going on the road to play a top-5 blue blood. Edit: I mean, do they want the AD's to schedule meaningful games in September or not? It seems like you'd want to send a message there.

Ha ha. Maybe that's the narrative that we should be selling, right? SEC Texas should get in over SEC Alabama?

Somehow Texas seems to be on the wrong side of that mythical "playing better than anyone" bullshit. In 2008, OU was the **consensus**, no-doubt-about-it best team in the country, and Texas was tougher, better, and mentally stronger, and won the game going away (OU spent most of their second half drives punting, fake punting, and punter flopping). And then 2 months later, the media went right back to "OU is just playing better than anyone right now" while snubbing the Texas team that - by any objective metrics - should have been playing for the MNC.

Yeah, Cal got rolled by the Tech team that had just gotten a beat down from Texas.

Everything about that article is wrong. First of all, reporters ASKED Mack Brown about bowl selections, and he said, "This team deserves to be in the BCS." I'm pretty sure that's what he said verbatim. That's hardly "begging and pleading." That prompted a response from Aaron Rodgers about how "we're too classy to say anything like that." More than that, Texas went DOWN in the rankings after Mack made that statement. The NEXT week, Cal played a make-up game (early non-con game cancelled because of hurricane threat) with Southern Miss, who was a sub-.500 team, and that game went deep into the 4th quarter before Cal won it. **THEN** Cal lost some points in the polls, allowing Texas to take the Rose Bowl spot in the BCS formula. Recall also that the PAC champion was USC, and they skipped the Rose Bowl to play in the national championship, and for a while, it looked like Cal was going to get that spot, and the media was WILD about perennial loser Cal getting a spot in the Rose Bowl. And then not only did that get lost, but the spot was taken by a Texas team that nobody outside this state roots for. That SI article is bullshit.

You're probably right. I think people are focused on them because the rankings have a ton of week-to-week momentum. We should be getting the nod over them for now. If they beat Washington, that would be a huge feather for their cap.

Yeah, every year people start overreacting in early November about how many undefeated teams there will be, how many 1-loss teams, etc. ... and every year none of those arguments matter because there are a TON of November upsets and it all works itself out. But this year there's been a really unusual lack of upsets in the top 10. I do think that we have a legitimate argument over Oregon compared to 48 hours ago... tougher schedule, more wins over bowl teams, best win, dramatic difference in how we played our common opponent. They stayed ahead of us after their loss based on an "eyeball" test, but a good chunk of that was while we were playing with a backup QB. And there's a lot more objective criteria now than eyeballs. Our resume is clearly stronger than Oregon's.

Fuck Big 12 refs
I just hate the whole "look how obnoxious I am" style of sportscasting - him and Stephen A Smith in particular. I'm just not clicking on their tweets, I'm not clicking on any stories about them, and when their face shows up on my TV, I change the channel or turn it off. Same policy with any Rolling Stone "best albums" or "best guitarist" links. Nope.

Snowmageddon
Man, Texas was super lucky to get through this season without one of these road games in severe weather (rain, wind, snow, whatever).

BYU @ Oklahoma State - ABC
Crazy how at one point in the season Oklahoma State had a hammerlock on a conference championship bid, with a conference schedule that looked softer than rotted fruit.

It's pretty great that the Iowa-Nebraska game was the lowest over/under ever set (and the score went under).

Damn, we should have scheduled the Bama game to be right after Thanksgiving. You know… so it would have counted.

Iowa - Glorying In the Nepotism of the Ferentz Family
The late 90’s RC Slocum Aggies had exactly the same strategy. Really salty defense and punt punt punt and at some point the other team muffs a punt or fumbles a snap or does something to just give it away.

OU has been crazy successful by any historic metric. They have bounced back from their down years (Schnellenberger, Blake) with 25 years of excellence.

No doubt. They have maximized their potential, and I rooted for them when they did. I also rooted pretty hard for Okie State in 2011 (and since), and I have rooted for Iowa State any time they're out of conference. That, in spite of Patterson being a chode, Campbell being an uber-douche, and OSU having two wins vs Texas absolutely handed to them via comically one-sided officiating. Meanwhile, my friends from all three of those fanbases (okay, I don't actually know anyone from Iowa State) tell me at all opportunities how arrogant Texas is, how we hold way too much power in the league, etc... yet, when I ask them to tell me EXACTLY how that's true outside of refusing to play against a Nebraska team full of partial qualifiers who would have been academically ineligible in Austin, they can't name a single grievance. (side note: refusing play against those partial qualifiers was 1) right, 2) just, 3) fair, and 4) almost THIRTY fucking years ago. (edit: dammit, computer just glitched and posted before I was finished this rant)

Yeah, lots of left-behind schools are about to look at their home schedules for 2024 league play, and think, “Wow, there’s not one school in this league that I’m excited to watch play.” Not. One. That’s how Texas and OU fans have felt for a fucking decade.
