Iowa State executes our defensive style much more effectively than us. They also got some legit playmakers at QB, WR, and HB. I don’t know how TCU beat them.
Might be a broken record with this question but who are some defensive “front 7” guys we have a shot with down the stretch? Last class had some foundation type players at DT, DE, and OLB. If we are going to have any shot at being elite defensively against these Big12 offenses we got to be superior up front. No disrespect to guys like Nelson and Hager, but those guys would be at Baylor and USF if it wasn’t for Charlie. They will forever have my respect for what they have given this team but we look pedestrian against teams with average O Lines, especially when their Tackles can stretch wide runs. We have to capitalize on the 2018 class up front.
I think our defensive front will look a lot more like a Texas front next season. No disrespect to Hager, Nelson, & Omenhiu, but those guys were some late developmental pick ups by Charlie. Charles is the only one who turned himself into a draftable player imo. Someone might take a flyer on Hager as a 3-4 OLB.
KSU needs someone who can recruit D1 players while also taking advantage of the Kansas Farm System. Oklahoma State puts together salty front sevens with 3star Dallas kids every class. KSU can do something similar with Seth or Venables.
I was surprised that a defense that’s designed to flush runs to the outside were getting gashed by outside runs all night. They took a page out of Maryland’s book by pulling guards on the outside zone. Orlando needs to apologize to the team for such a shitty game plan.
Breckyn made an IG post today with the caption “ We are going to walk on still water” and then proceeded to challenge Chase Winovich DE of Michigan to an Octogon fight on “Elitecollegefootballs” ‘s IG page. The replies are hilarious.
While Oklahoma State isn’t a great team over all, they present some unique challenges that I think will make this game interesting early. Their Defensive Line and Front 7 are on par with Texas and OU, probably more disruptive. Their run game has struggled but they can still hurt you with the deep ball. With a potential banged up QB or a back up QB who isn’t great against pressure, it’s going to be a tough moving the ball consistently. Also inexperienced corners early are going to have to defend double moves and deep routes.
Y’all are some hoes. If we are undefeated from here until the Big12 title game vs OU, we will beat the shit out of them. If we make it to the Big12 title game with 1 loss you might as well buy your playoff tickets.
Good shit Shane. He’s in a tough position. He was recruited by Charlie for a different offensive style. Then he had to compete with a Herman QB recruit that fits the mold of his offense, Sam was coming either way but he was in Herman’s first class. Not to mention Sam has the approval of the majority of the team and co-signs from former players. Shane still works hard and helps the team like he’s a starter.
It’s not like there’s many teams playing elite football at the moment. If Alabama wasn’t a factor I’d say the National Champion could be anyone in the Top 10 right now. I think we’d be competitive against OSU, Notre Dame, and Clemson. Alabama would probably fuck us up, but it’s not a given. Missouri is probably the best team they have played. For those hesitant about wanting the Horns to be a playoff team in fear of an embarrassing exit, I think Bamas the only team that could do that to us.
Shane missed a bunch of easy throws against Baylor to some big ass receivers. If he can put those on the numbers against OSU, I think he’s more than enough to win. He’s also better throwing those screen passes.
Caleb Johnson’s tape is my favorite of any defensive recruit in this class. He’ll also be a redshirt sophomore next season. An off season with Yancy would turn that guy into a Big12 Nightmare.
