Ole piss at bama
Not sure what’s happening but we were on the Quad again today and stayed into the fourth quarter. I practically had to carry my wife to the car. She is now wearing a Texas T-shirt waiting for kickoff. I married well.

RIP Charlie Robison???
It had been a long time since I have been seen him live and I thought I never would get the chance again after he announced his retirement. But when he started playing shows again I was excited to see him scheduled to be at Mile 0 Fest in January and was looking forward to seeing him there. Charlie did it his way. RIP Charlie.

Surly Horns Stampede To Tuscaloosa
Another good thing about the Avenue Pub, I was in there a few weeks ago waiting on our table for lunch on a Sunday. In walks Jason Aldean and his posse (he was playing the Amp that night) and he sent his head flunky up to the host expecting to get a table. They told him that it would be a thirty-minute wait, so he turned around and walked out. Made the Chicken Club Sandwich (grilled, with avocado) especially tasty.

Surly Horns Stampede To Tuscaloosa
For a large group you may want to check out Wheelhouse as it usually has more room on a football weekend than a lot of the smaller bars. It is in Temerson Square where they are several other bars if it doesn't do it for you. If you are looking for some live music Adam Hood is playing at the Copper Top (also in Termerson Square) on Friday and Saturday nights. And I second Avenue Pub for a bite to eat and they have a large bar upstairs as well.

Palo Alto Super Regional: Texas @ Stanford
I’m still stunned. To see them fight and claw back to tie the game when early it looked like they were going to struggle to score runs tonight…..it’s a heartbreaking way to lose. But it was fun watching this team get better all year and achieve more than most thought possible.

Not an ideal weekend. I hope this team grows as the season plays on or it’s going to be ugly.

TCU vs Kansas State - Big 12 Championship Game Thread
TCU seems to mimicking the Texas OSU plan by just chunking it deep every play and not connecting.

#3 Bama at #6 Tennessee, Saturday Oct 15th @ 2:30pm CT on CBS
I haven’t gone back in the thread but I assume there were a lot of comments about all BOB had to do was run the ball three times, make TN burn timeouts, and get closer for the game winning f/g? My Bama friends thread have not been kind to BOB.

iowa city
I just returned from Iowa City after dropping off my daughter (no pics) for her sophomore year at Iowa (how she ended up at Iowa is a long story). So, while my experience is limited (3 visits total) here are some thoughts. Hopefully you already have hotel reservations, because like a lot of smaller college towns the good options are limited and on football weekends you have to be prepared to pay. The Hotel Vetro, as AI mentioned, is in a great location and is a cool hotel. We stayed there last weekend but right now the rooms for the Michigan weekend are running about $1,300/night. But they may be one of the only places that still has rooms available. As far as restaurants, we mainly stuck to the downtown spots and enjoyed St Birch Tavern, Pullman Bar & Diner, Basta, and Vue Rooftop (didn't actually eat here but had some drinks and enjoyed the view over the city). Micky's Irish Pub has a good Chicken sandwich and a good beer selection. And I will second AI suggestion on Big Grove Brewery as they have really good beer, good food and is a cool place to hang out. We went to a game last fall and enjoyed it (and admit that I thought the "wave" was cool). I can't offer much in terms of tailgating advice as we pregamed at one of the sports bars downtown to watch the Texas/TTech game. But there were tailgates all strown about, even in the parking lot of our hotel (Mariott Courtyard right across from the stadium). All in all I think it's a cool town to take in a game in the fall.
