Trump’s America
Historically that’s very accurate and speaks to the “over there” sentiment @Thatguy mentioned which is spot on. However - gentrification has perversely changed this in Boston. The South End, Roxbury, and Dorchester (all historically black neighborhoods) have had working professionals move in and made the areas very mixed race neighborhoods. East Boston (historically Latin American) has seen the same thing so now it’s very multicultural. Thankfully the city has done some things to try to help those impacted by gentrification. A developer building new construction with 7 or more units must allocate at least 20% of the units to lower income households. It used to be 13% but was increased to 20% under the Wu administration. Because of this, the neighborhoods are becoming more diverse which is certainly a step in the right direction for the city.

Trump’s America
Doesn't surprise me. The city's North End (historically Italian neighborhood) and South Boston or "Southie" (historically Irish neighborhood) have a long and dark history with warring criminal factions (think Whitey Bulger). There's love/hate between those neighborhoods going back generations though now it's primarily just a running joke within the city since both neighborhoods have turned over a lot with mostly working professionals as residents (especially South Boston). There's a Boston edge for sure where people won't pull punches and say things that would otherwise make people from outside New England blush - I found that out quickly as an Austin transplant. The drivers are called "Massholes" for very valid reasons. If you're walking slow on the sidewalk in the snow you're likely to hear "hurry the fuck up" but also if you slip on the ice and fall you're going to have half a dozen people come over to pick you up and make sure you're OK. You get the Boston edge and inappropriate language but we also believe in respecting other's rights and taking care of each other for the greater good (example, in 2022 the state voted to pass a 4% surtax on households making more than $1M/year in income). And @Derka , out of respect for this board and a desire to stay on topic of Trump ruining America, this will be my last post on the subject. One of the things that makes this board particularly good to read is that I find the community here is in search of truth and insight. You made a sensationalized and uninformed comment about Boston and it's important not to just accept that as fact (much in the way Fox News says things like "all of San Francisco is homeless people shitting in the streets"). Does the city have some ugly parts to its past as TwiceHorn states? You betcha - no one is denying that just as I said for sure there are racists there. But because this board generally favors reality, let me leave with you one final example. In last year's mayoral race, the aforementioned Asian female Michelle Wu was challenged in the democratic primary by white male Josh Kraft of the Kraft family (owners of the Patriots). That's about as close to Boston royalty as Tom Brady. And he got his fucking ass kicked. Wu took 90% of the vote. If Boston is "full of racists", they sure do a really bad job of voting like it. Dude - settle down. The statement you made was Boston is “full of them” which is very different than “racism exists there”. I even said racism of course exists here. However I also proved to you with voting results and cultural norms why your statement was off base and your counter argument was some anecdotal incidents from professional athletes and ChatGPT? My point is let’s not just make outrageous statements about a place that’s actually doing things right on the whole relative to other parts of the country. As I said, your thoughts on this board are great and a net add but damn - try to respect perspective from someone who lives daily in the place you’re generalizing about.

I’m a fan of your posts Derka but it’s just incorrect to say these places are “full of” racists. I live in the heart of Boston. Been living smack dab in the middle of the city for 13 years. Are there racist people? Of course - the greater Boston area is nearly 5 million people so yes racists exist in a group that large. But it’s far from “full of them”. We have an Asian female mayor who was re-elected in a landslide. Massachusetts has an openly gay female governor. This city votes progressive on everything, demonstrations for George Floyd, No Kings, and Anti-ICE are very active. Hell, there’s a fucking massive sculpture tribute to Martin Luther King called “The Embrace” in the middle of the Boston Common. Just want to say let’s not throw out rash generalizations about parts of the country that are actually overwhelmingly living right and respecting their neighbors as friends and equals Embrace BostonMonuments - Embrace BostonPUBLIC ART & Monuments We invite you to “stand in the heart of their hug,” – Hank Willis Thomas THE EMBRACE & THE 1965 FREEDOM PLAZA We unveiled The Embrace…

Well other than the draft dodging bitch POTUS that is.- 🇺🇸 2024 Election Day 🇺🇸
If a rapist, convicted felon who tried to overthrow the government wins the popular vote in this election then it’s hard to figure out where we go from here as a country. Trump pulling off a 2016 type win was always a possibility, but to win the popular vote after everything he’s done and said at this point is shocking to the core.
