  1. I hope you meant "We are gonna fucking win, boys". Otherwise, count me out.

I'm sad to report that Scott passed away early this morning.

I've known Scott since 1967. I left John Bianco a voicemail the day of Scott's heart attack, knowing that the UT Athletic Dept. would want to know, and I hoped he would get the local and even national coverage he deserved. It was great that he was honored on the game telecast. Coincidentally, I missed it because I had left the game just prior to the announcement to sit on my patio and drink a bottle of wine to medicate myself after what I had seen during the Florida game up to that point. My thanks to whoever posted the replay of that recognition. I've made sure UT Athletics is aware of Scott's condition at this point too. This whole sad tale reminds me of a Scott Wilson story when his original orange Caddy convertible made its final stop on the side of the road in Oklahoma while Scott was returning home from a Big 12 game in Kansas. Even though the vehicle was done, he paid to have it towed back to Texas because he felt "it wouldn't get a Christian burial in Oklahoma." Now I look forward to Scott's final return to Texas.

My understanding was that Scott was admitted following a heart attack, not a stroke, but stroke keeps getting mentioned. Which is it? And thanks for the updates.
  5. OU - Texas. The hate that binds.
  6. It depends on whether Nebraska scores any points.
  7. Bama intimidated by the appearance of the LHB pep band in their stadium. Longhorns win 24 - 17. Bama offense goes for 375 futile yards.
  8. My flight into Austin Mueller Airport was aborted back in the day when, as we approached on a rainy day and broke through the low cloud cover, I could see folks in their golf carts driving into the trees to open the fairway for us. The pilot pulled up and did a better job in Round Two.
  9. Well, there goes our Directors' Cup chances for this year. It was a nice run.

An extension to the Mesa Falls trip is a turnoff from Idaho Hwy. 47 to Cave Falls. Cave Falls is located in the very SW corner of Yellowstone NP and is accessible only from a direct road from ID Hwy. 47 into the park, i.e., you can't get there from the loops that most folks travel within Yellowstone. It's a really pretty area because Yellowstone NP drains out here, hence the waterfall. Bechler River and Falls River merge at this point and it is an easy one-mile hike to their confluence. This area of the park is prime grizzly habitat, but I've found the biggest threat to be mosquitos. Take along spray for both. The drive from ID Hwy. 47 to the park is partially paved, then gravel, and finally paved again once you enter the park. There will be some wash-boarding and a few potholes, but just take it easy on the drive and you'll do fine. The combination of Cave Falls-Lower Mesa Falls-Upper Mesa Falls takes up a large chunk of a day, especially if you do an hour or so of hiking in Yellowstone. If you are also driving up from SLC that same day, you won't have time for all of this. As an aside, I returned from the Yellowstone area a couple of weeks ago. The Yellowstone flooding occurred the day we departed from Austin so needless to say our camping/fishing trip up there was severely modified. One spot we landed for a few nights of camping was Flaming Gorge in Utah. Since you are coming out of SLC, this is a convenient spot with lots of good camp sites. It is also a popular dinosaur dig and research area, so there are several good museums that kids and adults will enjoy.
  11. Son of a bitch. I get a Bachelors in English, a Masters in Jive, then a PhD in Ebonics and now someone comes up with this language - Mindless Internet Jibber-jabber.

Very nice, Ramjet! I'm headed back up mid-June - can't wait!
