I did this exact thing, except that I asked specifically for plate (at HEB on Brody). The person seemed to not understand what I was talking about, and kept trying to push the pre-sliced ribs on me. I said no thanks. I'll try other stores.
It's crazy that a guy that can throw a 99 mph fast ball pitches like he's a finesse pitcher. Someone needs to make him watch film of Goose Gossage or Billy Wagner. High heat.
At a minimum he should get switched to middle relief, nothing beyond the sixth inning. I think any of rondon, devo, or McHugh would be adequate closers.
I went to Brown's BBQ (food truck) on Lamar today. There was no wait, and the staff was very friendly. I got a beef rib and potato salad. It was good, not great. I'd go back because it's nearby.
This so much. If you don't put down a single layer of chips, and put toppings on each one, you're not really trying. And beans make a huge difference; I always put them on mine when I whip up a batch.
I went to La BBQ recently for lunch. The wait in line was only 25 minutes. The brisket was well seasoned, but a bit dry. It looked like it was cut from the flat - I suppose I should have requested some fatty brisket. The chipotle sausage was really good though.
This morning we went to Valentina's for some breakfast tacos. The line wasn't bad - about 20 minutes. I had the Real Deal Holyfield and I enjoyed the hell out of it. It's a nice slice of brisket, bacon, an egg over easy, beans, and potato. I highly recommend it.
My favorite place to go for breakfast or lunch is the Star Drugstore. Other good places to go are:
Benno's
Fisherman's Wharf
Black Pearl
Little Daddys Gumbo
Stuttgarten
One place to avoid is Gaidos. Also, don't ever get a room at the Tremont. It's so loud there that it's hard to get any sleep.
