115 (C?) isn't very hot, and I think I read that they're going to change to 130. But if I correctly understand what I'm reading, the temperature of the test won't actually matter in terms of what Merc did, and was a bit of a red herring (initiated by ... who knows?). It seems the trick Merc used was to create a seperate 2 cc chamber attached to the combustion chamber by a passage only about 1 mm in diameter. At low rpms, that chamber fills up, but at higher rpms, the pressure and turbulence prevent the combustion gases from flowing into or out of the extra chamber, effectively closing it off, reducing the volume of the combustion chamber, and increasing the combustion ratio. So a test at racing rpms might catch it, while a test at merely operating temperature would not. It's very clever, but the chamber is clearly only there to satisfy geometric measurement and plays no role during combustion when operational. But yeah, it looks like the FIA, via negotiation with the teams, has closed off the loophole and given Merc a grace period to fix it. Fred has apparently told them that Ferrari will not protest the PU in Melbourne under this agreement. And who knows, this 'external chamber' thing could also be a red herring.

  3. Yep, and didn't miss by much on any of 'em. Tinney had one too, down the RF line, just missed the pole.

    Ugh.
  5. And then add in that reports like these are coming from different people in multiple locales like, say, Palm Beach, NYC, SoCal, NM, Dallas, and more, I'm sure.

Reminds me of my BIL's mom posting yesterday on FB "Why are so many people worried about what happens to the illegals anyway?" 'Cause you know, they're subhuman, dontchaknow.

Why didn't I get into real estate a long time ago? I guess I probably would have had I known that I could more than quadruple my money in 3 years.

Reminds me of how porpoising suddenly became a safety issue when Merc couldn't figure it out.

https://x.com/formula_centric/status/2022342498300162382 TBF Piastri says he wasn't starting with the lights there, and it's unclear if others may have been holding their starts. BUT, judging by how long it took Colapinto to get away, it doesn't look great for the cars coming up to take their places at the back of the grid for a race start. Also, watch Colapinto's head when the car goes into anti-stall toward the end of the straight. Better hope there's nobody behind him when that happens.

nsiap. Apparently ICE just bought a Georgia warehouse to use as a detention facility. The warehouse was valued last year at $30M, but they paid $130M instead. Who did they buy it from? A company owned by a Russian oligarch.

Oh yeah, apparently starting isn't looking great either, because turbo lag. They were able to keep the turbos spooled up in the previous formula. No longer.

This is why I never understand people taking crazy risks for position early (esp lap 1) in long races like these. It's 12 hours, man. If you're quicker, don't do stupid shit, and the car doesn't break, you will move up.

Dude that hit the roo had roo all over him. He's also lucky he wasn't injured. Fucked up that nice Mustang, too.

It seems the quickest way around a lap is to charge the battery / save charge in the turns before straights so that the full charge is available for the straight - compromising the turn to maximize the straight. Apparently if they try to attack certain corners (before big straights) they won't have enough power on the straight to defend or attack, and the other cars will crush them there. If they're going as slowly in those turns as the drivers say, it will have a real detrimental impact on the show imho, even just in terms of watching the cars do their thing in the turns. When you look at the potential impact on overtaking, it just gets worse. Putting this in practical terms at, say, COTA, we're likely talking about the cars going much slower through much of 6-10 and 13-19 to help them on the long straights. Of course we'll have to see how it actually works out, but imho it doesn't look good so far. Another problem is the active aero. It will help the cars go faster on the straights, but it will also reduce drag to the point of there being almost no 'tow/draft/slipstream' behind them. That's going to make passing on straights much harder. And remember, afaik the only reason they even introduced active aero in the first place is because they realized after the fact that these weak PUs would be too slow down the straights without it. What a mess. These guys on autosport describe it better than I could. That last one stands out in particular imho. Many people on that and other forums predicted these problems in detail as soon as the regs came out a long time ago.

So that's Max, Lewis, and now Fernando, but nah, those guys probably don't know anything. Chuck was apparently complaining, too. good autosport post re: what can/can't be done to help things this season (not that they will) ... The PU isn't designed for increased fuel flow (more power). They wouldn't be able to change this during the season either. Everything would change (cooling architecture, ICE component strength). Ironically, the best thing to do is just reduce the electric power. All teams would be able to adapt overnight since it's not increasing the stress on the components.
  16. So, yeah ... I've seen catturd mentioned here and there, but don't know much about them. Why are they considered relevant, ie what about 'anonymous catturd on X' makes us care if he says shit about fuck?
  17. wood replied to texas08's topic in Other Sports
Yeah they really screwed the pooch ... badly. 30+ mph slower in T12. Think about that for a second.
  18. BTW, did anyone else here think she might be a little loaded during that shitshow on Wednesday?
  19. Holy shit ... weren't we just talking about this? What starts here ...
  20. This. Best walkup song of all time imho.

NA V10s + sustainable fuels. Done.

Yep. we'll see. They are running the whole test on a limiter from what I understand. Still some time to test and get a good cooling configuration so they can actually turn it up. With Honda's trail and error style, I didn't expect much at the beginning. I expect them to be slow in Melbourne, but get a lot quicker over the course of the season. The good thing is that this time there is no idiotic token system pretty much locking in the pecking order. At least in terms of PUs, the narrowing of the gaps should be accelerated in this era.
