  1. But spiraling out of control is what we do best...
  2. Yeah, pretty much figured that, but hoped someone would catch it. Thanks for being old as well
  3. Hopefully someone in the Athletic Department will go all Al Haig, declare himself in control and fire Herman
  4. So now he is invoking Nixon?

Saw an article a while back about the current generation running Southside. Apparently they did a lot of work on their technique, and also started sourcing and using prime brisket. I drive to Houston off and on, so I stop in there occasionally. I agree with you on placement — better than chains (like Rudys, for example) but below the top. I think they are a lot better than the chains. Brisket is good. The beef ribs they serve on weekends are outstanding. And, yes, the sausage is good.

I like Stiles Switch a lot, but Valentina’s and Terry Black’s are a lot closer to where you will be

    More fun stuff arriving
  8. I don't find resort fees odd these days. I find it odd that a hotel in Midtown Manhattan would call itself a resort

Costco is good, but you should really try the Napa Olive Oil I mentioned above. Local California grown and manufactured.

Napa Valley Olive Oil Co. Little barn place a few blocks off 29 in St. Helena. We always stock up when we are out there, but you can buy online. On the online store, it’s the “Family Blend EVOO.” They have been in business for almost 90 years: https://www.nvoliveoilmfg.com/

If you are heading up from Austin, you can stop at Miller’s in Belton
  12. Yes. They still have it at Austin locations. And I like your thinking
  13. I agree with this with one exception: spicy chicken biscuit for breakfast. It's the one thing I will stop to get at CFA
  14. My wife and I were there in April, and she noted the same thing. The coffee we had was uniformly very good, even compared to the relatively high end brewer and burr grinder we use at home. Maybe it's just because we were in France, but it really did seem very good.
  15. "If it's Folger's, it has to be good"

  17. Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop amphetamines

    New arrivals
  19. Guess I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue
  20. Agree with you on (2). Different vibe for sure
  21. Yes they do, but they are not talking about going in the summer, so why does that matter? I also wouldn’t really call the Ritz RM a “resort.” Maybe just me, but I’ll take a Ritz “resort” any day.

ha! No, Lazy Susan Ranch = one of The Vineyardist labels. Small production Diamond Mountain; Mark Herold is the winemaker. They make 2 cabs, about 500-700 cases.

  24. Wife and I went there in February -- stayed at the Ritz in Ranch Mirage (by the way -- stay in Rancho Mirage or Palm Desert as opposed to Palm Springs proper). As everyone says, if you play golf you will have great choices. Played a couple of courses there. The tram is fun, and it had snowed the day before we went up so we hiked through the snow up top. Joshua Tree is pretty amazing, and worth the drive. Restaurants: the Edge steakhouse at the Ritz has an amazing view, and the ribeye I had there was a top 5 all time (they do their own dry-aging). Prices are high, but a nice splurge. There is an Italian place in Palm Springs called Birba that is very good. We also ate at Copley's, which is on Cary Grant's old estate.
  25. Rosarios for me. La Fonda
