  1. That firebox is a double wall insulated firebox with two layers of 1/4" steel sandwiching a thick layer of mineral wool insulation. That's not to say that it won't be warm to the touch, but it should not be near hot enough to pose any threat to those tires.
  2. H Here is another shot that shows the front side. You can see how the door is connected well in this one. On to your comments and questions. Regarding the wheels, this pit will be shared across a few people in my neighborhood. While I am the majority investor in the hard costs, there are others contributing in significant ways (e.g., labor, materials, shop access, etc.) and we will all be using it over the coming years. The golf cart wheels make it super easy to transport around the neighborhood. As for the interior, no plans for tuning plates. there is a heat deflector between the fire box and the smoking chamber that is angled up. There will be an upper shelf on the left side door. Otherwise, we don't have anything special planned on the interior. We are at the finish line, and just need to finish out the cooking grates, connect the smoke stack, install the stainless steel shelf, finish wire brushing, and then it'll be time to put the clear coat on. It's been a fun project. If anyone is curious, we bought all of the raw materials from Big Phil outside of Rockwall. Dude was really cool and has been helpful throughout the build process when we have had questions.
  3. To each their own. I personally like the contrast.
  4. We replaced our Bonavita with a Technovorm Moccamaster and we are loving it. It has a physical on/off switch, which lends itself to connecting to a smart plug. I ask Alexa to turn off the coffee pot as soon as I wake up and the pot is ready by the time I make it to the kitchen. Like the Bonavita, it’s certified by the SCAA and makes a pour over like pot of coffee in a thermal carafe that stays hot for hours.

    Latest score.
  6. Working on this beast with some buddies. 26x60 with a double wall insulated firebox. Goal is to have it ready to go by the 4th. Plan is to clear coat it with that unfinished look.

Went on a bottle of Weller Full Proof with a few others at $250. It’s not worth that, but you are unlikely to find it at MSRP that it’s going to be in that range if you want to try it. It’s pretty damn good. Is it 5x better than 1920 or 2x better than Woodford Batch Proof? Of course not. If you’re hell bent on trying it out then that’s likely what it’s going to run you.

As days go, this was a good one.

Found a good looking pack of plates at Costco and fired up the pit this weekend. They did not disappoint.

    It’s a 2020.

Dunno yet. Dropped a tonneau cover on it and installed a Du Ha under seat storage unit in the back row. A lift is out of the question due to the air suspension. I’ve thought about blacking out the badges, and will probably end up upgrading the rims and tires at some point. Otherwise, I’m not seeing anything imminent on the horizon.

I bought my first truck last week. Ram 1500 Longhorn Laramie edition, fully loaded. It has the MFT, the Panoramic sunroof, 12” display, air suspension, etc. MSRP was $70.6k and I walked out with a $14k dealer discount and another $5k in rebates for finance through FCA for a net price of $51.6k before TTL. Loving the ride on this thing.
  14. Well the winter transfer ended with a thud. I get that it’s hard to pry quality players mid-season but I figured there would be a veteran or two worth adding that could have evened out the consistency of our performance. I remain wholly unimpressed with the effectiveness of our board.
  15. For the life of me, I’ll never understand the consternation over rankings. Feels like we used to ridicule aggy for this behavior during the Fran era. Sure, Rivals has an agenda and a sketchy approach to ranking kids. Why give them any attention about it at this point. In summary, get off my lawn.
  16. To anyone that feels the need to defend or spin the Valai hire, how many other candidates do you think we interviewed first? I’m guessing it was zero. Nothing on his resume suggests he’s worthy of being handed the job without taking a few swings at coaches with real skins on the wall. He was going to say yes, even if 7 other candidates passed first, but Herman and Ash couldn’t be bothered to make the effort. Herman runs his entire organization the way small minded businesses were managed in the 1950’s. Well run organizations set a hiring bar (e.g., candidate has to be better than 50% of the people in this job, etc.) and consistently hold out until they find candidates that exceed it. Tom seems fine gambling on the buddy system, which is going to fail at an exponentially higher rate. Is it possible that Valai is a rising star? Sure, but the odds are against him. Call it a 10% chance that he ends up being elite. Why not hold out for a coach that is a) already elite, or b) has enough experience to suggest that the odds of becoming elite are higher?
  17. Until you remember that Tom Herman is still a) an asshole, b) grossly overconfident in his own ability, and c) still our head coach. We’re putting lipstick on a pig. Fuck her if you want, but I’m gonna pass.
  18. I would rather not see Akina come back. He’s getting up there in age and I think it could be a super awkward dynamic coming back under a totally different regime. I have to think there are coaches that are equally as capable but will bring fresh energy and a recruiting boost to the program.
  19. Rule changes for kickoff return formations have effectively neutered the return game calculus. Explosive returns still happen occasionally, but are much less common. You even see a high number of pro teams fair catching kickoffs now. The stats don’t really support trying to return them, particularly from the end zone. The numbers likely look different for kicks that land in the field of play, but I can’t find any articles that summarize the data the way that this one does for kickoff returns from the end zone: https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2019/return-or-not-return It’s understandable to want to have a dynamic return game, but you need a singular talent and a bit of good fortune to make it happen. Once you weigh in the downside risk (e.g., fumbles and poor field position) there is a strong argument for just fair catching the ball. That is, of course, assuming you don’t drop said fair catch.
  20. That’s a fucking red card on Son. He went studs up right into Rudi’s ribs.
  21. By "this type of stuff", do you mean "being a head football coach"?
  22. We don't. If Kevin Johns is MENSA, he'll tell us.
  23. TH knows Ash is a shit hire and wants to soften the backlash with a splashy OC hire. Prove me wrong.
