That perfect song and why it is so
Otis - Try A Little Tenderness Immortal sax and trumpet intro, poignant words about how young girls get wearied wearing that same old shaggy dress, tempo and rhythm changing and building with each verse, that magnificent weeping organ chord at "makes it easier, easier to bea-earr," and that fine ascent to the kickass closing "GOT-ta GOT-ta GOT-ta GOT-ta." That's my favorite "perfect" song.

The Beatles - Get Back (by Peter Jackson)
I relish the anticipation. If you were listening to music in the early 1960s, the advent of the Beatles changed it all, and it was so wonderful. I play 1964 Ludwig blue oyster pearls to this day for a reason. Tried to get black oyster pearls, but the world was out. Someone once said, about the moment the Beatles stepped out of the dugout at Shea and walked across the infield to the tiny stage at second base, "Before then there was nothing. After, there was everything." Amen. I saw them in person two nights later in Atlanta. Life changing in the best way. Viva los Beatles!

When you can't see the forest (fire) for the trees
Looking at a screen does not create enlightenment, wisdom, compassion or grace. Since thr rise of the internet the number trouble making assholes seems to have increased exponentially. That being said, I'm not ready to pack it in. Writing off those we don't agree with isn't working. But seriously, how did that precinct in Palm Beach County end up going to Pat Buchanan in 2000? "Close enough for government work" is not an acceptable answer.

The movie you just watched
The Hallelujah Trail-1870s mashup of temperance marchers, Plains Indians, mounted cavalry and militant miners, plus Lee Remick and Pamela Tiffin looking very fine. Great Elmer Bernstein score, epic voiceover intro a la 1950s Disney documentaries, great Monument Valley vista cinematograpy. Man, I love this film. Satirizes John Ford westerns without being malicious. Brian Keith chews up scenery. Burt Lancaster at his best as the 6th Cavalry Colonel. Donald Pleasance as "Oracle" needs to be primed with whiskey before he can make a prediction- (swallows a shot) "Ah! There, now I see it!"

- Mr. Tuberville goads to Washington
The hits just keep on coming: Tuberville says delay inauguration, but date is set by Constitution Updated Jan 15, 2021; Posted Jan 15, 2021 U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville, who voted against certifying President-elect Joe Biden's wins in Arizona and Pennsylvania, said the swearing-in should still happen Jan. 20, but any public ceremonies should be delayed until "after we got this virus behind us." (Joe Songer | jsonger@al.com).- Mr. Tuberville goads to Washington
From the AlReporter.com Tuberville says Trump admitted to “mistake” over deadly Capitol riot. He hasn’t. Trump has not admitted to any responsibility in the attack on the U.S. Capitol last week. Published January 14, 2021 By Eddie Burkhalter [PHOTO OMITTED BECAUSE TOMMY TATER TOWN] In this July 14, 2020, file photo, Republican U.S. Senate candidate and former Auburn football coach Tommy Tuberville speaks at a campaign event in Montgomery, Ala. (AP Photo/Butch Dill, File) Sen. Tommy Tuberville, R-Alabama, in his first media appearance in Alabama as a senator on Wednesday, was asked his thoughts about the possibility of impeaching President Donald Trump, which happened later that day. He said Trump admitted to making a “mistake” and that it was time to move on. Trump has not admitted to any responsibility in the attack on the U.S. Capitol last week that left at least five dead, including a Capitol police officer and a woman who was shot by police while attempting to climb through a broken window inside the Capitol. Two others, including an Alabama man, died from “medical emergencies” while on Capitol grounds during the riot. “He made a mistake. He said he made a mistake. That’s not, to me, not an impeachable offense,” Tuberville told reporters outside of St. Vincent’s Hospital in downtown Birmingham, according to WSFA. “He’s got one week to go from today. We’ll have a new president in President Biden. We need to go on with life. I mean, to me, you know, when you understand you made mistakes and admitted. You forgive. You go on.” Questions to a Tuberville staffer on Thursday regarding Tuberville’s comments Wednesday were received, but APR had not received responses as of Thursday evening.- CFP National Championship: Alabama vs Ohio State
Anyone else watch ESPN's Skycam version? If you are tired of Fowler and Herbstreit's constant chatter and annoying graphics between plays, Skycam format is a blessing. I watched the whole game that way. I would pay extra to have this option on demand.- The US Capitol has been Breached [Action and Developing stories]

Confederacy of Dunces (cont'd) SPLC calls for investigation into Alabama AG’s role in Capitol protest From AL.com Updated Jan 09, 2021; Posted Jan 09, 2021 By Dennis Pillion | dpillion@al.com The Southern Poverty Law Center is calling for an investigation into the role a group headed by Alabama AG Steve Marshall played in organizing a rally at the U.S. Capitol that turned violent, resulting in five deaths and the takeover of the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob. Marshall said earlier this week he has ”directed an internal review” after reports that the policy branch of the Republican Attorney Generals Association -- a branch headed by Marshall -- played a role in organizing and promoting the protests around the U.S. Capitol Building. Marshall said that decisions were made within that group without his authorization but did not specify further. The SPLC Action Fund issued a news release Saturday saying that the Alabama Ethics Commission and Alabama State Bar should investigate the matter, not Marshall and the RAGA. “Attorney General Marshall’s account of his involvement in Wednesday’s insurrection is not credible,” SPLC Action Fund CEO and President Margaret Huang said in a news release. “He’s asking the public to believe that he was completely unaware of his staff’s work to organize the rally and insurrectionist efforts urged by the disgraced President Trump. It appears he is lying to his constituents – the Alabama people – and the American public at large about the outcome of the 2020 election and his role in the failed yet deadly coup.”- The US Capitol has been Breached [Action and Developing stories]

All these assholes should be placed in stocks, beginning with the Asshole-in-Chief. Inciting a riot indeed.- CFP National Championship: Alabama vs Ohio State
Based on what I've seen, which is every play of Bama's 12 games this year (and bits of OSU games this year plus all of OSU/Clemson), this has the feel of the Bama/Clemson game in Santa Clara two years ago, i.e., hard punch to Bama's solar plexus running game followed by 2-to-1 outscoring by OSU. As Lou Costello said in the Wolfman movie, "I got a baaaad feelin about 'dis one." Plus, Sark has visions of chaps girls' tight asses, padron tequila and burnt orange orgasms, so there goes his usual clever offensive strategery. Maybe Nick has a whole secret series of plays, or the bone docs put a bionic ankle in Waddle's foot. I'm not goong to bitch, though, unless we get robbed on a game deciding replay or some shit. Football is the winner here.- Sportsmanship and lack thereof, smack talk, chippiness...
ND/Bama seemed fairly sportsmanlike, except for that thuggish Saban guy chewing out one of his own players. But hey! Gosh and gee whillikers, that Big Ten ref nailed him with an unsportsmanlike, night? Nothing much to see in Jerry World other than football and Brian Kelly narrowing the gap, like Donald "rounding the corner" on COVID. Those Big Ten refs loved their play clock whistles, didn't they? "Oooooo-kee, fellas, here camms another play, so eye-m gunna blooo this here digickal whistle for five full seconds to annoy every animal organism on the planet." IMHO all this punkiness it goes back to Deion Sanders, et al. celebrating every damn play, e.g., "Imma expend energy I should be conserving by posing in triumph after making a routine tackle or catching a routine pass. Act like you've been there before and get your mind on the next play, dumbass.- 2021 FBSNCG The Ohio State Buckeyes vs the Alabama Crimson Tide
Answer: 120,000 Question: What's the over/under on number of times the word "storied" will appear during the next nine days in U.S. media in different articles? So fucking tired of that hackneyed word.- Official "Fuck this stupid ass-commercial" thread
"No Regrets" is fine music and Piaf awesome. Combining those with wobbly Jello and Fuzzy slippers on car tops every. fucking. five. minutes. since football started in September makes me hate all music and everything French, at least until my madness and rage slowly abate. Zut, alors!- The movie you just watched
State and Main. Pretty good making of a movie in a movie movie, Mamet written, set in an idyllic New England village. Think Far Side "when worlds collide." Wm H Macy as the director, Alec Baldwin as horndog lead actor, Charles Durning as mayor, scads of familiar names and faces, too many to list. All in all, a sweet use of holiday time with a worthy number of amusing lines.- 2021 Texas Style Rose Bowl - Notre Dame vs Alabama 3PM on ESPN
Several different streaming sources; Google cactus points out the way. May the better team win, Joe, with no serious injuries on either side, and the refs let 'em play.- 2020 Armed Forces Bowl - Miss State vs. Tulsa @ Fort Worth - 11am ESPN
If you happen to see this game upcoming on the channel guide, check out the Lockheed Martin promo at about 8:00 of the 1st Qtr, featuring the L-M CEO. This guy has to be CGI. Guy looks like the sleazy managing partner lawyer asshole in Better Call Saul. Then you notice - nothing is moving but his lips. A future Bond villain right there. Fracasing MSU fucks should be required to clean the anal probe and "receptacle cow" at the semen collection barn all year. Fracasing Tulsa fucks must watch 100 replays of this game, commercials included.- SEC Championship: Alabama vs Florida
Hypothesize this: In the Swamp, the Florida db stuffs the swing pass on 3rd and long. The db gently places the LSU receiver's shoe on the turf and walks away. Regulation time expires. Florida beats LSU in OT. In the SEc championship game, Bama escapes 52-46. Come Sunday, the Playoff masters compare 10-1 Florida which came within one possession of beating Bama with 10-1 ND utterly shattered by Clemson. Gators are in the playoff, right? I know, I know.
