  1. I readily admit that I have read about possible FTL travel before but I am not an expert. That said, my impressions is you are kind of correct. Yes, there are theoretical possibilities like warp bubbles or quantum tunnels, but it's not just that they need a lot of energy but that we aren't even sure if that energy exists (e.g., vacuum energy, dark energy, etc.). Given this uncertainty, I think it's correct to say that the law of physics as they are generally accepted practically eliminate the chances of extraterrestrial visitation, but agree that it wouldn't violate the laws of physics as theorized.
  2. A few points: @Brisketexan may have acknowledged that there are probably beings out there but he has also acknowledged that he has no basis in saying so other than he wants to believe so. Even using @Vegas64's larger estimate of 1E24 stars out there, we don't know what the likelihood of life forming on any of them is. Any guess is just that - a guess, an extrapolation from one data point. Is the probability of life forming 1 in 1E15? Maybe, in which case there's likely of life out there. Is it 1 in 1E35? Maybe, in which case it is very unlikely there is life out there. I think it'd be cool as hell if there was life out there, and I think most do which is why it's so common to hear some variation of "there must be life out there" but it's all still really an expression of hope / desire. Saying "I dunno" doesn't get a lot of clicks. @NotActuallyALonghorn - Life certainly could have formed millions or even billions ago but we are pretty early in our universe's history. As per above point, I am not trying to say it's likely or unlikely it didn't, but I would speculate that we are on the early wave of life in the universe if it does exist outside Earth. It's also not correct to say "[we] have no information to refute the possible existence of aliens visiting us, I’ll just go ahead and declare this to not be that". There's lots of information we have to refute alien visitation on earth. The laws of physics as we understand them. The nature of required secrecy at this scale. The refutation of many (not all) videos / witness testimonies. This is of course not proof that aliens haven't visited, but it also isn't "no information" either.
  3. I'm not a tree lawyer so you may well legally be right but that's fucked up. If fruit falls in my yard I'm going to eat it.
  4. Roflbox SurlyBDR stahp
  5. Right, because they intentionally conflate gender with sex and treat anyone like who actually answers a question about on as if they are answering about both. It's almost as if these two concepts, while related, are not the same and hence we have the need for words like male vs man, and female vs woman.
  6. I was gonna say but most of the time we aren't directly funding the bad shit in other countries but then I look at Latin America and the Middle East and just throw my hands in the air. At least Africa is pretty much Europe's fault.
  7. Hah, now you're just asking for a discussion on whether Texas is part of the South. I am sure that will go smoothly. I will grant that I have not lived in Texas for decades but I don't know anyone who doesn't have napkins in the glovebox, even in Commiefornia, especially post-kids.
  8. Is this supposed to be a southern thing? Is there a region where this doesn't happen? I get Southern Pride but this seems akin to "Welcome to the South... where we eat food".
  9. William Faulkner thinks this is a long sentence.
  10. Right, but even in that article "Minneapolis Public Schools (MPS) is aware of an incident that happened after school yesterday, outside of Roosevelt High School." The poster wildcat was referring to was very specific about ICE going into schools, not about overall impact on schools, at least as I remember it. I am not saying this is a reasonable line to draw, just trying to accurately describe his position.
  11. You're thinking of @DaggerHorns. His argument (which I think is still true) is that ICE hasn't actually gone into schools. They have chased students into school but stopped at the entrance (as far as I am aware). This is not to minimize the impact they are having on the mental health and education of students to be sure.
  12. I would say that, depending on the SEC team, that would probably get in the playoffs. Surely you can agree that squeaking in as a top-12 team is vastly different than "one of the most dominant 10-game stretches in CFB history", no? Please tell me that you aren't trying to defend that quote.
  13. You realize Vanderbilt is a SEC team with two conference losses and literally nobody thinks they should be in the playoffs. Certainly their conference schedule is worse than ours but we should be aware that there are situations where a good OOC win would be a difference maker.
  14. Fuck that guy. "All of Trump's actions and shittinies to others are totally fine, but saying something to the one marginalized group that is close to me is just too much!" Spare me your indignity
  15. I believe the implication is that it is not just the Gaza-promoting source you linked to. To put it another way, every conservative site I've seen is loudly broadcasting "Look at all these liberal woke accounts that are fake" and every liberal site I've seen is loudly broadcasting "Look at all these magat racist accounts that are fake".
