But does being a college RT necessarily mean you'll be a pro RT? Idk As others have said, the top two OT prospects being mocked this year play RT. Guy from Miami and one from Utah.
JJR was starting to get some meaningful time two years ago under Gideon and then seemed to fall back with Akina. Wouldn't be surprised to see him re-emerge somewhere whether it's S, Nickel, or whatever.
Man, Florida must have found some money this offseason. Billy's buyout, retaining all those guys, adding Eric Singleton and a new QB couldn't have been cheap.
This is what I'd like to see for this year. Hire an "Assistant OL Coach" like a lot of schools are doing and have that person focus on the interior. Flood has consistently done well with OTs at Texas but pretty consistently struggled with the interior, at least in run blocking.
You don't know that. It might be true but nothing Brooks did last season should inspire this kind of confidence. Sikorski is an unknown too with only 6 starts at a G5 school. Is it possible there is enough on the roster to get by? Sure. Would it be smart to bank on that for protecting Arch? No it would not. Luckily it doesn't sound like they are.
Idk who will be the other starter at S but there's enough to feel ok riding with the current group. Any of Filsaime, Williams, Jonah, or JJR could take a step forward with the rest providing solid depth. Expect better coaching to help a lot there too. Imo the only true needs at this point are 2-3 OLs (1+ starters and some depth) and 1 LB. Everything else is gravy barring unexpected departures.
With the number of guys in the portal, I have to imagine there are going to be a ton of players left homeless when the NIL wheel stops turning. My guess is that there will be some quality depth available for next to nothing once the musical chairs stop. With Bennett gone, I don't think they have any available OLs who have visited now. Might be on to plan C there...
It's been posted before but interesting to see where UT's targets sit. Raleek had good blocking (ASU is hidden under Nebraska). Smothers did not. Texas in the laughable zone. YAC is obviously only one metric for RBs that doesn't favor smaller guys like Raleek.
Quick scroll through the on3 lists of portal people and some interesting/funny throwback names on there: ATM WR Chris Marshall - actually had a solid 570+ yard season at Boise with 19 ypc this year Dante Dowdell - 5 ypc at Kentucky, big RB at 6'2 230 Johntay Cook and Troy Omeire Bubba Hampton
His "injury" was tonsilitis in 2022, when he was a redshirt freshman on a national championship team. Solid chance he didn't play just because there was someone better ahead of him and is playing up the tonsil thing to get an extra year
Nowhere as far as I know. Surprised Juluke hasn't gotten him on campus with Clark and Simon up in the air. On3 and Matt Zenitz already saying GT is an early team to watch
Also, who the heck thought this portal season was going to be such a Michigan battle? Getting real sick of them. The 2 OLs, Biles is visiting, now Uluave is visiting, and potentially Justice Haynes. Justice Haynes or Bo Jackson would be fantastic final pieces to the RB room. Seeing some early talk about Haynes and Georgia Tech.
