Two things can be true: 1. It's not time to panic, and 2. The staff is off to a bad start. It's early but to have only one non-specialist commitment after weekend 1 is pretty poor. A lot of high-end guys around the country have already committed. Texas had plenty of visitors and didn't close.
We shall see how good these guys are but at least Jeff Banks had his shit locked up quickly. Wish we could say the same about Mr. Kyle Flood. Josh Hoover commits to Indiana as rumored
A few commitments from guys that have been mentioned on this board: Tulane OG Hurst -> Houston Clemson S Barnes -> UGA Auburn DB Jay Crawford -> Ole Miss Kansas St LB Austin Romaine -> Tech RB Caleb Hawkins -> Ok St
Sounds like very functional execution from the Longhorn staff at the biggest position of need! I wonder did the guy just show up way smaller than listed or do the scouts not talk to coaches before they bring guys in for visits..
Apparently Louisville boards think there's an increasing chance he stays. OTF mods kinda avoiding questions on it. So it sounds like it may be more of a battle than the 9.95ers previously thought.
Seems like some of the guys who were hinted as done deals aren't going to be a straight-forward as indicated. Woods and Mascoe taking other visits, Isaac Brown maybe returning to Louisville, etc. Not saying those won't happen but still work to do. OL updates from OTF: Still not saying Goosby is a lock to come back vs. NFL, but that Sounds like they passed on the Wyoming guy (Wes King) Still indicating Baker moves to OG if Sprague signs Mizzou involved for Sprague but may not even get to them Not sure of any competition for Guarnera, who could be OG or C depending on Robertson, etc Still not sure what Connor Robertson is going to do
This Guarnera guy sounds like an awesome get if it happens. Exactly what they need. Hope that one is wrapped up soon. Sprague is a little more surprising but sounds like a solid player too.
SIAP but Florida RB Ja'Kobi Jackson is in the portal. Think I saw mentioned Juluke liked him too. Had a good year last year (including the texas game) but injured most of this year.
So this Gianni Spetic guy was 75% on FGs this year. According to ESPN, that puts him T-84th in the country among qualifying kickers. Last year he was 81% would be around 50th this year, In fairness, his long of 55 was T-15th this year.
I'll still be surprised if Reed leaves but crazier things have happened. I'm sure he has a high ask given he was a Heisman contender through 11 games, but Elko might also realize he sorta sucks. Tough to bridge that gap and there are a lot of solid QBs in the portal.
I never said I assumed shit. You and I have no idea what the numbers are like. All I'm saying is that unless you're willing to pay for Coleman yourself, the analysis is a lot more nuanced than "go get him at all costs"
Money is finite. Of course Coleman is an upgrade but the trade-off isn't only between WRs. Would you rather have Coleman and 3 scrub iOLs or get a productive WR like Jayce Brown and 3 All-Conference iOLs? Obviously that's a hypothetical but it's how everyone needs to think about these things. If the money is there for all of the above, then yeah go get him. If not, tough choices need to be made and it's not a lot more nuanced than some of you are saying.
