The Italy Thread
I'm not much of a traveler, but, adding my 2 cents about my recent Italy trip. Booked thru Costco & went to the big 3 - 10 days. Loved Venice, it was crowded, but UT games are worse. Never once got on a boat. Spent only 2 days there. No plans, just walked around making our own tour up as we went. Train to Florence. Liked it much more than I thought. Lots to do. Took a classic Fiat tour south of town. Museums were nice, but, it all starts to look the same to me after awhile. Again, lots of walking. It was hot, but not that big of a deal. Drink a lot of acqua con gas. Piazza Michelangelo is very cool. Train to Roma. Finally, the locals are looking like I expected 😏, dressed in Italian fashion.Tight clothing. Adidas shirts for men. No socks to be found. Loved Rome as well. The history is amazing & at the same time, mundane. The St. Peter's is the most amazing thing that I have ever seen (again, not a traveler). I'd go again to any of these cities. & what's up with the feet washers in the hotels? I hope that the are feet washers

Parenting - Ant-snowflake
Not sure what side this falls on, but I just sent my 20 yr old son to Spain by himself for the Summer. Didn't know anyone except an "internship" company that he would be working with. No Spanish. Never traveled far by himself before. Long story shorter, he came back. I really liked the peace & quiet. Oh, well, maybe he learned something

3D printers
303, I got one for my son who's a Jr to-be at UT-D. Little cheap one, but he loves it. This summer, he contacted a local 3D printing co. to have some parts for my company produced (or at least costed out) He did the design & sent over the files. I don't think it's in his interest for a career, but it's cool to see him excited about something.

UT to give full scholarships to in-state students from families making less than $65K
A slight addendum: Not ALL kids should get in. There's just not enough space

UT to give full scholarships to in-state students from families making less than $65K
I would like to see all qualifying kids get into a State university, even if it costs us tax or PUF dollars. However, I would also like to see restrictions on degree paths. If you want a free ride, these are the fields of study to pursue. Now, who decides the "correct" fields is another question

I'm An Alcoholic
These responses are exactly why I came out of the Lurker closet. Celery & Swandered knocked it out of the park. Also, why I admit to being preachy. I want my life for them, but they may not need or want my life, despite how much I enjoy it. Thanks for the responses. Need more mirrors.

I'm An Alcoholic
Saw the Lurker post above & finally decided to chime in. 11 ½ yrs sober. Loving every day sober, but, my problem is this; I don't like drinkers. My wife drinks & it drives me nuts. I won't spend time with other relatives due to their drinking. It doesn't bother me so much that they drink, but that I know life is so much better sober. They think I'm preachy (. I am). Anybody else relate to this? If so, advice to correct MY behavior. Thanks

Not trolling & that never even crossed my mind. I was just confused why I have to go to a pharmacy to get heart worm pills

Red Light Cameras in Texas Are Now Banned
Some very interesting replies. seems we have a few different reasons; The 'operational group" which thinks that they aren't doing it correctly or as advertised. The ACLU group that feels like they infringe upon their rights. & finally, the R.L.Rs, red light runners, who don't want to be caught.

Speaking of Vets (well, I was), why do Vets issue prescriptions? Why not just sell them whatever? It's not like my dog is going to OD

Well hell, I must just live in the magic Vet land. I've never paid anywhere near those costs for our dogs (screw the cats). The most I've ever paid was about $1200 for cancer treatments.

Red Light Cameras in Texas Are Now Banned
As a new poster, I found this topic interesting. Why do most people seem to despise these cameras? Is it because they don't think there should be a penalty to run a red light? Do these people also think other or all traffic law enforcement should be banned? I'm really curious

It seems to me that the Veterinaries have it right. Low cost, high care, healthy competition. They do the same thing with twice as many legs.
