Appliance repair in Austin area
Replying to myself - yes... Quick update... I decided to buy an inverter replacement board from Amazon - $38. Worst case scenario, I return it. Best case, the refrigerator is fixed. Well, the reason the compressor did not come on was because the inverter board had indeed failed. After moving the fridge for access, it was a 3 minute repair. The Samsung lives to frustrate me again in the future.

Transfer Cycle 2025-2026 - I'm With Stupid
An acquaintance of mine was part of a team that was the UT IM runners up one year and the champs the following year (mid/late-80s). He was part of a group of men who would scrimmage the NCAA women's team, when Conradt was coaching and they were consistently making it to the Elite-8. He noted that they would consistently beat the women's teams during practices.

Bill Belichick Rides Again: Hired at North Carolina to build NIL NFL Factory
Agree about the elitism, selective memories, and bias. Halls of Fame should serve multiple purposes: (1) highlight the historically transcendent performers and contributors (2) highlight the differentiators in specific eras. Both make for the HoF being more interesting to visitors and allow for better memories of the entire history of the specific sport. With the above in mind, everyone mentioned in this thread deserves to be there and not be some subject of debate and consternation. If guys like Anderson, Craig, Woodson, Witten, Pearson, Martin, etc. cannot get in - or struggle to get in - they are not serving their ultimate consumer: us fans. I know folks do not want a "Hall of Pretty Good." Who really cares? Each one of these guys have a story of their impact to their franchise, the city, and the overall history of football - let's commemorate it.

Bill Belichick Rides Again: Hired at North Carolina to build NIL NFL Factory
On the first ballot coaches: Lambeau and Halas were in the inaugural class and totally make sense. Landry, Noll, and Shula make sense given their contributions, etc. To the extent that those 3 make sense, so does Belichick. Do I care for him? Not really. He's surly and seems to be an asshole, but he's a fantastic coach and wins football games (google him). To those who cite "he's a 44% coach without Brady." Well, that's true, but he did have Brady. Move on. Noll had a 47% win percentage after Bradshaw retired and had a 43% win percentage if you include Noll's first year (did not have Bradshaw). So what? He had Bradshaw, so it counts. I am a Steeler fan and believe that LC Greenwood deserves to be in the HOF. However, Belichick deserves it more. I'd sort this years ballot as such: Belichick, Greenwood, Craig, Anderson, Kraft. FWIW.

Sherrone Moore's Michigan Meltdown - Staffers, Breakups, Extortion, Cover-Ups, Firings, Knives, Assaults, Breakdowns, Arrests
Wife does not look exactly thrilled here. Extracted from an article - Rome refers to it. Rome typically is a beating, but I agree that was good. Michigan man is great, but not in the way he thinks. He's on record saying that Indiana football is the best story, but changes his position saying Michigan football now is.

Winter Weather 2026 - I Can Haz Cold Front?
Pool pump lost prime at around 430a. Has not lost prime since I bought it over 2 years ago. Sigh. Trying to turn it off with the app - "freeze mode - cannot turn off pump". Thanks, Technology! Need to turn it of at the exterior breaker. No need to run it so it burns itself up. Any other thoughts, fellow pool owners?

Concerts you are attending
File under "Show I am not going to see..." David Lee Roth in Austin on April 29. He was pretty good when I saw him at Stubbs in 2003. Each performance I have seen since then (none in person) has been progressively worse. Some snippets from 2025 are just sad...

Appliance repair in Austin area
Thanks to both of you! Regarding fridge: I was able to do some additional diags on my own. Was able to get the code that showed "120v not getting to invertor OR compressor not working." Then went through the self-tests to turn on the compressor manually - did not turn on. Time for a new fridge.

Appliance repair in Austin area
Looked for threads and the most recent appliance thread was > 5 years old. New thread! First, I have a 16 year old Samsung fridge - bottom freezer with french doors. Not freezing or cooling properly. Did some basic diags and will do some more. If I decide, "F it, I am going to call a repair guy", who would you call? I know Samsung is garbage and I am personally astonished that it has lasted 16 years with only 1 minor repair. I know I might also be buying a new fridge, but I want to make an effort first. I need to do some more diagnostics first, but I figured I'd prefetch for a recommended repair person. Second, I have a downdraft cooktop, with a telescoping system. Well, the telescoping part of it no longer works - and these are shitty solutions. Same question - who would you call?

Mike Tomlin leaving Steelers
Signing TJ Watt for 3/$123mm was not great in supporting a needed reset, but it would have been problematic for getting Metcalf, getting Rodgers, etc. and would have guaranteed no playoffs this year. That said, they'll have 1-2 years of desert wandering... We'll see if Art2 is as competent as his father soon enough.

Mike Tomlin leaving Steelers
They have been in QB hell since BR retired, no doubt. BR's retirement corresponded with GM Kevin Colbert leaving and being replaced by Omar Kahn. Steelers decided to draft a QB in 2022 and too Kenny Pickett at 1.20 and add Trubisky via free agency. That 2022 draft consisted of QBs: Pickett (Steelers - 20), Ridder (74), Willis (86), Corral (94), Zappe (137), Howell (144), Oladokun (Steelers - 241), Skylar Thompson (247), Purdy (262). Pittsburgh GM clearly did not think very highly of Purdy, taking 2 spares ahead of him. In 2023, the went with the same steaming pile of QBs as 2022: Pickett, Rudolph, Trubisky. In 2024, they rolled with Fields, Russell Wilson, and Kyle Allen. It will be interesting to see what they do in 2026 - they did draft Will Howard

NFL Wildcard Sunday: Bills at Jags, 49ers at Eagles, Chargers at Patriots
Most advanced QB stats show that Herbert was about the 10th-15th best QB in the league and that Maye was top 5. Herbert was 8-12 last year, between 5-10 in 2023, and 10-12 in 2022. They lost in the playoffs this year to NE, last year to Houston, missed the playoffs in 2023 (Herbert ended the season injured), and lost to the Jaguars in 2022 (Chargers were up by 27 at one point). All in all, he's an above average QB. Not sure if it qualifies as good, but it is certainly not asswater. Can get you to the playoffs and that is about it. That said, the GM should be ashamed to compiling that list of WRs to support Herbert. It's a bunch of spares and 33 year old Keenan Allen. For $50mm, though, you want to see the promise of a playoff win at some point. This year, ESPN's power rankings have NE at #2 and Chargers at #11 and Vegas has NE at -3.5 (likely because of experience and weak schedule). This should have been a NE win, but I agree that the Chargers looked uncompetitive.
