Ryan Wingo - An Explosion of Talent
My offer stands. Again not a threat. You repeatedly talk down to me. If someone approaches you in that manner, you wouldn’t like it. You don’t like being called on it either. Ironic again. You bitch about stats yet here you are quoting them. You’re using them to provide context. That’s valid. Maybe others have a clue on occasion. You seem to have a problem with that. I have a rather unique perspective regarding athletics. It’s been a long time since I participated, but in an observational capacity as a parent, youth coach, etc. I’ve learned some things in the last handful of years. I don’t need vague references of “I told you so” or “everyone” told you. You highlighted play, which I agreed look to be ill thought out, but show me a coach that doesn’t have that on their record. 4th and 19 versus Vandy this year. Terrible play call in my opinion. Same as the Georgia play call I keep referencing. So not isolated to one coach. And perhaps it’s terminology but I’ve read many times regarding a play call on the front end and someone making the play call on the back-end. That is different than what you’re saying so the “everyone” in that sense is muddying the waters. Design is one thing. A live play call is another. That was the source of my question a week or so ago. You’re done with this I get it. But maybe don’t assume your superiority reigns supreme over any and all in every case.

That wasn’t a threat. I’m in the worst shape of my life and getting worse every week. You were and are a little bitch. Most people, perhaps not you, generally become less of a jackass when it becomes a bit more personal. You didn’t like my tone, I get it, but there wasn’t a threat. I’m anything but black and white when it comes to sports. It is about the “stix.” From a player perspective, I don’t really give a shit about the play call so long as it doesn’t completely run me out of the play. If the offense runs a screen in an end of half situation or on 3rd down, I should never misread that. So if I’m the DB blitzing versus OSU, I should recognize it sooner. If I’m playing coverage on 3rd down, I know where the first down is. The defensive play call does not eliminate the player so if you want absolve the player, go ahead. And an example I’d use is the Ponds pick 6 versus Oregon. He said it was cover 3. I doubt he was playing press coverage. Cover 3 dictates he get depth. Yet he made a play. Players sometimes need to make plays. And again, end of game, Georgia vs Ole Miss. The defensive play call completely ignored the situation. So sure all worldly one I have no concept of the sticks or situational football. There’s a reason I reference DFEI. It says the defense was good, which would include the pass defense. Go ahead tell me about Penix. Then I want you to explain how USC in 2005 ran up yards and points versus 4 highly drafted DBs. Then I’d like to hear how Tech in 2008 did the same including the last minute drive. Maybe it wasn’t that they sucked but that the opponent was pretty damn good. Nevermind that UW had more highly drafted guys than Tech, maybe USC. Or that health-wise 2023 was worse on the back-end.

Again. One play. Out of 1,000 plus plays. 2nd overall in 3rd down defense. You didn’t prove shit. I didn’t push it because your arrogance doesn’t allow any alternate thought from you. Now, notice this from tonight’s game. 3rd and 8. Notice how deep all the coverage guys are. You’ve got a 3 x 1 with 4 guys in coverage That is not wholly different than the alignment you showed from the UW game, certainly from a depth perspective. The Rams didn’t convert. But I’m sure you’re better informed than an NFL guy that’s so damn dumb to play 12-14 yards off on 3rd and 8. And since you like to be a little bitch, let me know when you hit up a tailgate. I’ll swing by so you can put a face to the poster.

If you recall our last interaction, I asked you what defense Georgia ran on the 3rd down conversion that put Ole Miss in FG range. Press man. A defensive call that exponentially increased Ole Miss chance of winning. You didn’t answer that question but wanted to show me some weird ass coverage versus UW. I agree that play made no sense. The “stat guy” in me says we were #2 in 3rd down defense that year so it’s not as if we conceded everything. So again the stat guy in me says everything needs context. So my initial comment here was to rile you. I wouldn’t take Wingo over Smith, but that doesn’t mean Smith is better in every respect either and certainly not on a given play. The stat Pac-Man gave you some food for thought. That’s when each person can apply their thoughts to that stat. Rest assured. My reference to any stat I post has a practical understanding and most often is in search of support of a premise that piques my curiosity. It’s too bad we didn’t get to play each other. It might have been embarrassing for you to get up your ass best by a stat guy.

I don’t either when they don’t align with the message I’m trying to convey.

Bijan Robinson is special
He’s had plenty of opportunities. He doesn’t need 400 touches a year. I’d prefer good Bijan a year or two longer than a prematurely worn down Bijan.

Hey PK -- What would you say you do here?
Agree, this one looks dumb. Quite a bit we’d drop the safety down on 4 wide. What I’d question is how often we did this? And in contrast to 2024, we played few teams that could spread us out and go 4-wide so there’s probably an element of playing to UWs personnel.

Thanks for the response. In the vagueness of it all, some leave the impression that two persons are making an individual play call. I’d view your discussion as collaboration on overall scheme. That makes sense. When you run a zone blitz, I cant imagine two separate calls that are not predetermined actions. I can envision checks in certain situations but that’s not what I’d define as a “call.” I’m a Steeler fan. Blitzburgh. Rod Woodson, fast enough to be competitive hurdler, used to play off the ball quite a bit. That did not preclude him from making plays on the ball. Playing off coverage does not preclude the DB from making plays on the ball. Now, regarding 2024 pass defense. Sure, we had good personnel, but we were healthy. In 2023 and 2025, we were not. That’s impactful. Having two backup safeties like versus Vandy in 2025 that resulted in a busted coverage TD, well, we never had two backups in 2024 in the game at the same time. And that Vandy offense? More multiple and talented than any offense from 2024’s schedule. In 2023, we played against 15 offensive guys that were drafted in the top 100 in that draft. Some of the “shitty” QBs from that year made NFL practice squads at least. Barron injured, Watts injured. Those 15 don’t include guys like Golden, Bond, Milroe, Will Howard, Devin Neal, Giddens. The offenses were simply harder to defend, likely from a personnel and scheme perspective.

Whenever you post? Nah. Occasionally, sure.

“To be a coach as long as he has and not understand how to tie your secondary to what you are trying to do upfront is embarrassing.“ This is the last sentence. That’s hostile towards a dude that’s achieved a shit load more on the football front. I’m continually reading references about tying in the back-end, PK calling the front-end, someone else the back-end. Yet those persons never explain that. So when people vague responses to that question it leads me to believe it’s bullshit. “Penix 430 yards passing. TD 30 seconds before half to Ohio State. 200 yards rushing to Arizona State“ He frequently makes this reference. UW had offensive talent out the ass. They were on. The Murphy reference is because he kicks ass. Maybe led the entire country in pressures but was unsuccessful in getting to Penix. Why? Cause UW is good. Talented opponents make plays. Thought he had some LBer in him. If so, then he ought to be thinking “don’t be surprised by a screen here” not blaming the coach. The Georgia reference was checking his awareness.

Hey PK -- What would you say you do here?
Does Byron Murphy suck because UW had 3 draftable WRs, two NFL caliber guys at TE, two NFL tackles, a freshman all American center and a 1st round QB? Maybe that’s a tough combo particularly given a month to prepare. Oddly enough matchups matter. Tell me what coverage Georgia was in when Ole Miss set up the game winning FG. As terrible a call as it gets. Given the gravity of the situation I can’t think of a worse call actually. You know, I’m curious about this front-end, back-end bullshit and nobody ever gives an answer. Maybe you can. I’m not looking for generalities but specifics. I’ve read on the internets that PK calls the front 7, someone else the back-end. Unless we’re talking predetermined checks, I do not see the practicality of that. So educate me as to how the hell there are two calls that are seemingly independent yet not. I’m a child/player of the worst generation of coaches, but I have a clue regarding the game.
