Realignment talk not going away
Ego to me has been what has prevented the colleges from making effective decisions about the direction of college athletics and what has made them easy prey for the networks. The entire joke that college athletics is an amateur sport has been a joke for years and trying to force that idea of the schools, conferences, NCAA, and athletes is largely why we find ourselves where we are right now and not the money. Money has definitely played a part, but when ATM made Jackie the first $1M head coach that wasn't because that is what it cost for a quality hire no more than Jimbo's contract or than Bama is paying Kalen DeBoer $10M+. You have kids in college who come back to their schools and talk about how their facilities in the NFL are less than their college and they don't have all the other little things. Those aren't truly needed in college, that is all about perception and bravado and hype. Ego is also getting in the way of schools trying to compete. Perfect example, there is a debate among the TCU community/alums that in order for TCU to have any chance of getting an invite we have to expand (or actually build one in some people's opinion) the research side of TCU because that is a factor that will academically appeal to the decision makers on TCU's behalf. All bullshit in my mind. If TCU wants to grow research more power to those who are behind the growth and fund the growth. However, does any truly believe that if somehow magically TCU became a leader in whatever area of academic research that we are going to be included in whatever this future conglomeration is going to be regardless of the number of eyeballs we bring to the equation? NO!!!! So why the push? In large part because the academics and alums behind the push want to be known as a school about research and academics and not athletics. Worrying what people think of you is nothing more than ego.

I could listen to Charlie some, he does get on tangents from time to time, but he knows baseball better than the collective idiots on Houston sports radio which really has gotten bad.

Left Behind: A Quick Dose Of Post Big 12 Reality
And? I guess that story is compelling to see, maybe the coffee clatch at Mustang Donuts might find some interest, but once again what does this have to do with the teams in the Big 12 that were left behind when Texas and OU left for the SEC?

Realignment talk not going away
This stopped being about what was necessary and unnecessary a VERY long time ago. All about egos and money. I agree with Burnt that the ultimate result will end up being 60-64 athletic departments coming together to what is in their own best interest and realistically I recognize the why. Might not completely agree with it, been through it a couple of times and schools like TCU and ISU are going to have to make some tough choices in the future. I don't think this will be in the best interest of the professional product either, but these decisions are not going to be made for that purpose. I will find it funny when a few of the programs that have benefitted for decades as being part of certain conferences get culled and learn what others of us have known for years.

Good question, playing tennis for one, but not sure with whom since the passing of Ken Hoffman. Doubt he is is going to El Campo to play with Small. He still does some podcasting and writes a few articles. Maybe after Ken's death, Charlie has decided to enjoy life.

Left Behind: A Quick Dose Of Post Big 12 Reality
Funniest part of the story is much like TCU (SMU posters note I included TCU), most of the students really have no clue what religious affiliation the school has and it doesn't impact their day to day academic or campus life. I know at TCU I took one religion class from Brite Divinity and it was a survey course of eastern religions. Darn sure wasn't integrated in the manner of student and academic life like ACU or DBU.

Charlies doing more research than when he was on the radio. All that damn vacation time kept getting in the way of digging through stats.

Tre Johnson
Hobbies? He just turned 19 for goodness sake. Seriously at 19 you have no clue what life is and you really don't know what appeals to you beyond a few things. Tre's answer is what I would expect, but the question is fucking stupid.

Wouldn't this be better placed in the ACC thread?

If Gordon, Okert, Sousa, King, and Hader can make it stand up I don't think we are being unreasonable in thinking Hunter is up to this task.

Morey's perfect team, all the players will be interchangeable, will only shoot from the outside, and there will be no thought given to team chemistry or how the pieces compliment each other as this is all about the + - chart. They just need to get rid of Drummond and Embed. No needs for players who might actually touch the paint.

I could try to blame not enough coffee, fingers too big for the phone, but fuck it, reads better that way which is the case for most of my posts.

Who wants to be the poor bastard whose job it is to fact check the MLB history stat. I have no idea how many gays that is and can only imagine the eyestrain after reviewing box scores on microfische from old Sporting News.

Favorite Character Actor
Stronger role, Dennis Feinstein or Adrian Pimento? Bigger Parks fan than Brooklynn 99, but Pimento was off the wall at times.

You better hope he isn't there to sign an endorsement deal with a Chinese tennis shoe company. The shoes might all be made in that part of the world, but they aren't the same and Yao's feet are exhibits 1 and 2

Houston Astros 2025 Season Thread
I think the Astros have no issue with signing their players. The questions become will they be willing to pay whatever the market price would be for Pena in two years when he is 30 and how many years would they be willing to offer to him? Pena realizes his next contract is going to be his one big chance to cash in as he is making just over $4M this year and can go to arbitration twice before being a free agent in 2028. Could they reach a number and a term that is favorable to each side? Yes, but don't see it happening and this might be why there have been rumors Crane is considering a sale of the team.

Agree with the first, but not sure if dumbfuck is truly the best name for him. The great thing about being in the media be it print, tv, radio, or social is that you can be wrong over and over and over and over again as long as people are watching, talking, replying and following. A very simple formula that made Rush Limbaugh a multimillionaire and look at the careers it has provided for Skip, Cowherd, and Stephen A. KD is the perfect person for Acho to throw shit at because he knows KD will respond, KD has a ton of followers who will gladly pile on to defend KD, and will be happy to link what he said all to prove just how stupid Acho is when in fact they are just widening the exposure a bit more at a time. The world of media isn't designed to periodically purge itself of those who only stir shit up and don't really contribute, heck, the only difference between Acho and a good number of posters on the internet is he is getting paid for saying and posting such things and the rest are helping him getting paid.
