Michigan's spring game is this weekend. I'm guessing we won't hear anything about their DTs until next week.

I would think 4 with of one ready to play some meaningful snaps. And we should expect to take another 1-2 in the portal.

In the near term, I am evaluating this hire by: - hold on to Brandon Brown. This is a test if he can keep a recruit that appears to have only committed because of Bo Davis. - development of Alfred Collins. This guy has been an enigma. If Baker can unlock his potential (I am thinking getting on an All SEC list type year), then this guy might be a really good hire.

Performance of "Up and Coming Coaches" during Sark's tenure at Texas: Blake Gideon - Blessed as Muschamp's choice, has one more year to prove himself Brennan Marion - Good choice, bad results Tashard Choice - Great choice, great result Chris Jackson - "Who is this guy" grade for choice, good results so far AJ Milwee - What would he be without Sark? Performance of "Established Coaches" during Sark's tenure at Texas: Andre Coleman - Bad choice to retain, bad results Kyle Flood - Great choice; amazing results Jeff Banks - Great choice, great results Jeff Choate - Good choice, good results Pete Kwiatkowski - good choice, good results (finally) Terry Joseph - "Meh" choice, "meh" results Bo Davis - Great choice, great results (depth chart is underwhelming though)

I see it as Sark not leaving anything to chance or "development hope" for next year, especially at WR. Texas has one of the best QBs, O Lines, and RB depth of any team in the country next year. Don't ruin this opportunity with unknowns at wide receiver. Now fix DT.

That 3 and 8 late in the game where he gave the receiver all the room in the world was incredible. We needed a stop badly, and he didn't make any kind of a movement that resembled good defense.

Here's my take on transfer portal needs: 1. Don't need anything from the transfer portal: QB OL RB DE K 2. Definite immediate need; should be looking for someone right now: DT TE P 3. Reevaluate if a transfer is needed after spring ball: LB WR S CB

Surly Horns State of Things End 2023
Along these lines... I think something like Airtable, Google Sheets, or another collaboration tool could be useful as a master tracker for annual recruiting classes to help highlight who the key Texas targets are and who the better players are. Much of this information is shared in the recruiting threads, but it would be nice to have this synced centrally. A recruiting class table (ex: 2025 Recruits) would have columns of information like this: Player Name Position Composite Rank Texas Priority (High, Med, Low) Likely Leader (Texas, other school) Bobby B update notes Gerry H update notes IT update notes 247 update notes TFB update notes Surly take / thoughts (e.g. "might not have a committable offer because Player X committed") Permissions could be granted to a handful of recruiting addicting degenerates here to update and post info as available.

Surly Horns State of Things End 2023
This is the only Texas site I use. I just signed up for TreeFiddy and recently started TOF donations. Here's my suggestion on how to build a following on socials for Surly. This suggestion is based on replicating a model of another school's fan social media account that uses a lot of user-generated submissions. The account is Drunk Old Grad, https://www.instagram.com/drunkoldgrad/, which is an account for West Point that is run by an alum Most of the content comes from current cadets or alums, and the person running the account uploads the content (and he makes some of his own content, too) A lot of the content is memes or videos taking a stab at Navy or Airforce, current cadet life, or being in the Army But there is a lot of other content highlighting football, basketball, etc success, alum accomplishments, West Point from back in the day, other successes/ things in the news about West Point and the Army If Surly follows this model, posts/videos can center on these themes: Making fun of aggies, sooners, other schools Updates on football, volleyball, basketball, etc. Current student life Alumni in the news Longhorn apparel, etc. Pictures of Longhorn logos/fans in unexpected places Historical UT/Longhorn images (e.g., vintage gameday posters, images of campus from the 60s, etc.) The goal in this model is more than just a football or sports account; it is an overall UT/Longhorn fan and lifestyle following. One way to start getting this content could be to start a thread somewhere here for people to upload memes, images, videos, etc. Whoever runs the social media account would then make the final call on what to upload, then upload and manage the social accounts.

Aggy 2024: Still waiting on the Looch 44
If they fire him after 3 years, they will be paying (assuming annual payouts): - Elko $5.6m per year (not accounting for amount offset for contract with new school) - Jimbo $7.2m per year Not to coach at A&M. I'm ready for it.

Tell Me About Texas a&m
Gravity. Aggies don't realize the real force of nature within their football program, athletics, and school that limits their upside. No matter what they do, they will not be able to defy this gravity of being an 8-4 program.

Tell Me About Texas a&m
Considering that the full price of the decision to hire and fire Jimbo will exceed $100m, it's incredible to think about the opportunity costs not only for a&m, but also for the donors. ROI is obviously not be a consideration at all for the aggies. The only thing that makes sense for a&m's next move, based on how they behave, is that they will essentially double down on the next move in a hope to "atone" for their mistakes to make it all worth it (however they define value; there definitely isn't going to be any form of a NPV calc near this decision). I expect a massive budget for the next coach and staff, and massive budget on recruits/transfers, at least in year 1.
