Singer , in a league of it’s own - dedicated thread
BAT has an Austin based Singer at auction: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1990-porsche-911-carrera-2-coupe-66/ There was an awesome Singer pop up event at the old AAS building about a year ago.

Affordable Watches
Spikes Car Radio has me into Sheffield watches right now. Picked up an A1 Driver a month ago for summer pool time. Now I’m leaning towards picking up the new Rally. Just not sure it will take much wrist time away from my El Primero which is my daily. They’re going to do some releases later in the year with a Swiss movement. Anyone else like this brand? The affordability makes them dangerous.

2022 Lawn and Landscape
Have any Austin folks done a build-out/leveling to a sloping native backyard? Mine is dirt and rocks backing to a greenbelt. I want a level area big enough for the kids to play and a putting green would be nice perk. Do I start with a landscape architect to get plans and a budget estimate? Any recommendations for such a person?

Golf Cart Mods
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you'll be lucky to get $3k for it if the batteries are shot. Used prices are in the crapper. I recently sold my 2019 EZGO 2+2 for $3k with a new lithium battery setup and lots of recent maintenance. It had an intermittent issue with a sensor, but ran fine unless it was going down a steep hill. I picked up an Evolution D5 Maverick with the two rows of forward-facing seats. It's awesome and was only $9k brand new. Highly recommend.

These are available in a manual? I had no idea! I drove a friend's SVR coupe for a day. It had plenty of character. While we're at it, I would add the 981 Spyder to the "over-budget" list. Has OP picked anything up yet?

I don’t follow these closely, but they look within reason from a cursory BaT search. Some are more tunable than others. All offer unique top down manual fun. Under budget: Viper (Gen II or III), Vantage V8 Roadster Over budget (probably need to spend $90k): 997 turbo cab, R8 Spyder V8

Nor have I, just pointing out the possibility. I strongly recommend the GTS for resale because it has the flat 6. I don’t think the 4 cylinders will command a “last of its kind” premium. If you’re looking for an open air Porsche and resale is important, maybe consider a 997 turbo cab, a 991 targa, or a Spyder. They’re used and are holding value well. I have a 991.2 GTS and love it. You can’t go wrong with the Porsche driving experience.

A Boxster would be a great weekend toy. Get a manual 4.0 GTS if you can swing it. Trim and options matter for value retention, but a Boxster will not hold value as well as GT cars or 911s. Porsche has walked back some of its electrification commitment. If they build another ICE Boxster, the 718 will no longer be "the last one."

Yes: Pools are worth it....
Maybe pool related... I have an undeveloped sloping backyard. At minimum, I want to level out part of it for a play scape and create space for the kids to play. Maybe add a trampoline or putting green. I have no clue how much this would cost - I assume at least $50k-$75k. I'm also considering the pool route, depending on how much each project would cost together/separately. Does Surly have any recommendations for companies that do this work in Austin?

This was a great recommendation, thank you. I took my car to Harris Hill on Friday and it was a blast. I was nervous about doing this for the first time in the wet but it was even more fun that way. Jon was a great teacher. Very positive and encouraging.

I'm looking to get some performance driving training. I hear Harris Hill Raceway offers some where you can take your own car. Does anyone have any other Austin area suggestions?

Houston Astros 2024 Season Thread
You could look at our lineup when we went on the run during the Tucker injury, know that was a fluke, and many of those guys would regress to the mean. And here we are. Oh well.

ESPN Channels and Disney owned ABC affiliates pulled from DirecTV right now
I just signed up for Fubo because of the blackout. Can’t do YTTV because the Astros but now I notice Fubo doesn’t have TBS which will carry some playoff games. So frustrating.

That will be an epic experience. Can’t wait to read about it. I’d do a Fjord green or Oslo blue coupe on a brown interior.
