It's really nice to see Texas looking like they belong on the same field as TCU. The outcome is still in doubt but we're here to play and we're in the game. When's teh last time that happened vs. TCU? 2012?

Superbowl Halftime - Maroon 5
Men that always sing in falsetto irritate me. Michael Jackson. Bee Gees. Timberlake. Maroon 5. But I'm always amused when they duo with a female vocalist with a deep voice like P!nk or Madonna.

LSU @ Auburn - CBS
I don't remember losing any recruiting battles with LSU for Texas kids before 2012, but I may be wrong. Then again it may have something to do with us sucking since then, too

The Air Raid and the Longhorns
I'm ignorant of the veer & shoot aside from what was written about Mattox and Gilbert, but most sources I reference put Briles in the Leach coaching tree. If nothing else that's where he got his college start. In any event Briles isn't around anymore and his own coaching tree is pretty small, however Babers at Syracuse is more Air Raid.

The Air Raid and the Longhorns
He coached under Leach for a few years at Tech. He wasn't Air Raid, but he used that system to make his own

The Air Raid and the Longhorns
Agree. Alabama seems to be able to tweak their offense based on personnel. Is that legal? They're also anchored by great defenses so there's that. OU and TCU have similar (less effective) systems with Bob and Patterson providing the defense and Air Raid OCs providing the offense. Aranda one of the few big name DCs to come out of that system, and doing well at LSU

The Air Raid and the Longhorns
This year? Or in general? Texas can't really look down their nose at anyone's recruits right now. And you're right it's not built on recruiting but OU in particular has benefited from high-caliber athletes in the Air Raid system. *replying to slorch

The Air Raid and the Longhorns
Since the game I had a lot of conversations with friends and family around the country - same as you guys I imagine. One question keeps coming up, and it's not a new one: how and why do the Longhorns struggle on offense? The thinking is that Texas HS FB is some of the best in the country, producing NFL-caliber offensive talent year after year. Naturally UT is the big boy in Texas so why do schools like OU, TTU, Houston, Baylor, TCU, aTm, and others keep getting all of our talent? Why do those schools have explosive offenses year after year while Texas languishes in mediocrity? TTU and Houston have almost a mile of combined offense, one with a freshman QB, while Texas has a sub-50% completion rate? I don't have the answer. But a good friend of mine (an alum and an Ex) pointed out that we're the one school that has never had a coach from the Mike Leach tree or associated with the Air Raid offensive style ubiquitous in Texas HS FB. And that's true. OU has cycled through tons of Air Raid guys. Tech was built on it. aTm bought in. Briles *spit* was an innovator at Baylor. Why not Texas?

Until his senior year, Dickson would reliably shank at least one punt per game, though. The last half of his senior year he was the best I've ever seen in college. I'm willing to give Booj some time. He's got the leg. I hope he limits the shanks. And nice prediction on Dicker. That kid is nails.

Tom "the turtle" Herman [Lame Duck or greatest 5d chess player ever?]
Last night was the type of win I wanted to see this year from Tom Herman. Not because it was a blowout win, but because we toughed out a big win against a marquee opponent using in-game adjustments and a variety of tactics and personnel to do the job. The coaches and players both deserve praise for this one. Some are saying that USC was overrated and an easy opponent. Well, maybe. But Tulsa and Maryland aren't very good either. So we improved. I soured on Charlie early and wanted him gone in year 2. The names of your players (calling Ash 'Cash', forgetting Swoopes' name, mixing up Malcom and Malcolm Brown) and the type of offense your team is practicing all offseason seemed pretty basic things for a coach to know. I gave him a pass for the lack of talent on the team, but the man was clearly out of his depth or too tuned out to be the guy we needed. Some guys have soured on Herman and already want him gone. Last year I gave Tom a pass because our OL was the worst thing ever, and it wasn't his fault. We made improvements in other areas. This year I lost hope quickly after Maryland and Tulsa. Our OL is better (only way to go was up) but our D was worse and our offense wasn't showing the progression I wanted to see. After last night, I'm back in the give him a chance crowd. It was a good win. I want more of them. Tom earned some slack.

Right? Pretty happy with our OL last night, and they've looked a lot better. And we made some adjustments on D last night and shut USC down too. I'd like to think it's our personnel making most of the difference.

Beating TCU starts on the lines. You win battles up front and Patterson can't exploit you the way he wants. Patterson wins those battles and it's going to be a long day whether you're Ron Zook or Bear Bryant. Our OL and DL are playing better every week, but TCU will be a huge challenge.
