Texas WBB 2025-26: Return to the Final Four
That's the price of us being new to the conference and a big draw. $$$$ My hope is that after our hazing period it will be harder for them to justify this scheduling fuckery.

Texas WBB 2025-26: Return to the Final Four
AAS - article today: Vic Schaefer said he is wrestling with balancing a tough nonconference schedule versus playing in special Challenge series that bring his players NIL money. Schaefer calls it “an interesting conundrum for me and an issue for me going forward.” His team has a NET ranking of No. 4. Vandy will be the 12th ranked opponent for 23-2 Texas and the seventh top-10 team the Longhorns have faced. “It really brings into light, are we playing too much of a nonconference schedule?” Schaefer said. “Because I’m sitting here in Game 25 (Monday) night, a top-15 matchup (win over Kentucky), and my kids just seemed to be a little flat, coming off two very emotional games with Oklahoma and LSU, both in the top 10, by the way, and so it’s really hard to get them up. I mean, it’s not like we have some three-name directional schools in our league.” Schaefer said Texas played in the two games against UCLA and South Carolina in the Players Era Championship in Las Vegas and against Baylor in the Sprouts Farmers Market ESPNW Invitational in Fort Worth to gain experience but also NIL money for his players. “We’re playing in those difficult games because they have NIL opportunities for our kids, so I’m trying to enhance their life. But again does that really benefit our team, the success of our team vs. enhancing them financially? It’s hard for me to turn down the opportunity for us to go do those games, and I don’t foresee me doing that. But I’m going to have five freshmen next year, potentially, maybe six. Those kids are going to need to play, and they’re going to need to get their feet wet. I think it’s something to contemplate. I’m not saying that we’re making any drastic changes.” … Schaefer also discussed the dues that coaches have to pay to get to the big time. “You haven’t lived until you drove the van nine hours to Thibodaux, La., got out, coached your kids, got back in the van, stopped at McDonald’s, drove home, hit a deer on the way, escaped death. Get home at five in the morning. You ain’t lived. You ain’t coached. You don’t appreciate the way we are today in the world we have today.”
