Also... Carter Bryant is shooting 44% from three on 27 attempts in the last 7 games and plays great defense and can switch 1-4 and doesn't need the ball in his hands. He's an absolute dream fit if he can keep his shooting up.
He was a RFA. They technically could have signed and traded him. As if there would have been any takers. But for sure they did him a solid so hopefully he will get some run somewhere, show off that beautiful three point shot he worked on all summer, and get an decent contract next year.
I don't watch the Rockets that much, but I'd be willing to bet that Ime is scared shitless to play Sheppard because of his defense, especially at crunch time when the game slows down. He makes a lot of scrappy defensive plays and gets into the passing lane and does some nice instinctual things in the open court and can disrupt some shots that he has no business disrupting. But at the end of the day, he is a giant fucking target who absolutely dies on every screen and gets muscled out of position by pretty much everyone in the league and it's compounded by the lack of rim protection behind him. There's really no one to clean up his messes.
This team is so fucking young and so ahead of schedule. Every loss is a lesson. This isn’t a particularly easy team to coach, either. They are inconsistent as hell from three and they have their in game lapses as every team does. But to me, the most important thing is that they are unselfish and play hard every night and play for each other. I don’t know how much credit you want to give to Mitch for that or if it’s just the makeup of the personalities of the team, but they’ve clearly got a good thing going and he’s clearly not fucked it up. His ass is young too and still learning. I give him a lot of credit for bringing in assistants who honestly have more experience than he does. To me, that shows a lot of confidence and that he has little ego about himself. We can always quibble about playing time, but it wasn’t that long ago that Bryn Forbes was inexplicably getting like 30 minutes a night from one of the greatest coaches of all time. So I’m okay with giving Mitch some space to experiment and grow and learn. I think he’ll be pretty good long term.
Every time I see Cleveland, Jaylon Tyson is giving somebody the business. I don't think I've ever seen that dude miss a three point shot. I'd kill to have him on the Spurs and I don't think I'd ever heard of him 6 weeks ago.
The nets are not looking to compete anytime soon. They would want an asset along with Garland. I think they would like trade capital in anything they do with MPJ. They are doing the OKC thing. Take bad contracts for picks, then when the player raises his value or is on the last year of his contract, trade him again for more picks and another bad contract. Lather rinse repeat. It’s good business for a tanking team. That’s how you end up with a zillion frps. OKC was just fortunate enough to also get a future mvp and completely fleece the clippers in the process.
