Unpopular movie opinions
Will Smith is a corny unc but he was the superior “Genie” in Aladdin. I get that the other corny unc, Robin Williams, is universally loved, and maybe it’s unfair as his was voice only animation, but yea…the Will Smith genie ate. Also, the live action Aladdin is the one (two if you count Cruella) example or the live action being better than the OG animation.

You should google Pactum AI and Walmart. They essentially are using AI as an optimal procurement bot. eta I'll just link it: https://procureconsupplychain.wbresearch.com/blog/walmart-ai-chatbot-automate-supplier-negotiations Anyways, the one actual factual use case that I think AI is actually a great deployed technology with real business value is in the contact center. The contact center has been being digitized and "transformed" for 20 years, why not let AI deliver the death blow?

No not at all. It's just an observation of a very visual and relatively new phenomenon. That and the afreomentioned Costco being 80% Indian. I love my Indian brothers they are cool with me.

You drive up and down 423 and all you will see is a) Indians in low end teslas b) 30 year old Indians in sedans with a yellow "student driver" magnet on the bumper or c) 30+ year old Indians in low end teslas with yellow "student driver" magnets on the bumper. That's about the gist of it. I am with you on being open minded and accepting and also benefiting from outsized appreciation. I think most people I know who want to leave have a "when my kids graduate plan" type 5 year plan at this point. I don't know anyone who would waste time at a townhall to complain and be racist.

And it's scary for them too which I feel sad for. I have a close Indian friend up here who works for AWS. Probably makes $500k a year. When the Jan 27th layoffs were coming up, he was a nervous wreck all January until he found out he was safe. Not because the money, he can make +/- 10% of that probably anywhere. But it's the fear that he would have 30 days to find a job or have to leave the country if he was laid off and didn't find a landing spot to sponsor him. What's the phrase you taught me? Stochastic terrorism.

Anecdotal to Frisco-area Indians, but you'd be surprised how they don't like affirmative action. I've seen it where they (and the Asians, surprisingly) are ever bit as racist as the anglos towards stuff like affirmative action, dei, etc. They feel like they squeezed on both sides, they get discriminated against because they aren't white, but on the other end they get zero benefit because of the "model minority" fallacy. I've seen more south asians and asians do explicitly racist things like call their kids away from the local playground and shooing them away from black kids when they were innocently playing or goofing around whereas the white folks here do that more sneaky. You'd think that the anglos of Frisco and Indians are almost the exact same people in a lot of ways like the aforementioned politics and community, except they are brown and generally not Christians (though some of that is even changing pretty quickly up here).- Dallas - Even Shittier than Normal
It's probably on par. Indians on visas get taking advantage a little bit in comp from what I've seen, at least in the wrench-turning class of IT (e.g. developers and technical middle management of products, etc.). I think I shared you can't take a walk in a neighborhood up here without seeing folks in a TWITCH branded swag of some sort (or traditional indian sari/wardrobe for those 75+ year olds who all walk around the 'hoods around keeping healthy).- Surly kids who can't get into UT
Well, I guess we have tried nothing and are all out of ideas on how to get our best students to want to consider crappy U of H and the like! We will always be unified in our complaints on not being the UC system.- ChatGPT AI Tool— We all work for robots now
Maybe so, but I just listened to the shopify earnings call yesterday and pretty much took away that the human experience of buying and shopping is cooked, as the kids say. UCP is a new term I learned that I think we will all learn in the future. Universal Commerce Protocol. Also ACP, Agentic Commerce Protocol (I think this one is OpenAI IP). Regardless, the goods will be bought and sold by AI in the foreseeable future.- Surly kids who can't get into UT
I spent some time on the U of H campus for an O&G symposium co-hosted by the university of some Houston based companies. It's a pretty poor experience if you value that sort of thing as a student. Which sucks beause they have all the potential in the world as you said and have access to some pretty powerful organizations to help being co-located in the 4th largest city in the US with a ton of F500 firepower. And they have a premiere college basketball program. I almost wonder if they should just go the route of the U of Miami and just go private and revamp themselves as the SMU of Houston and really use their endowments as debt pledge backing to transform. Otherwise, will they ever emerge from the primordial soup of commuter school and not a destination college for top students?- Dallas - Even Shittier than Normal
Indians up here LOVE Costco. That is indisputable. Also Indians up here are generally Dilliwalas and only about as far south as Marathi or Gujarati, because home prices are high and their jobs are higher up more long term so they invest in things like real estate versus the poorer castes of Southern Indians which you see more as renters in apartments in places like Plano and Irving/Coppell and other areas with lots of apartments. The Marathi and Gujarati are basically the Indian version of Republicans from Red States (they love them some Modi aka the Indian Trump) and they generally like to a) make money b) save money and c) care about their children's school district and college chances, in that order. In that sense they fit the ethos and culture of Frisco/Prosper area extremely well.- A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms HBO Max
But also in a world where the knighthood position has been corrupted and the culture of honor in the upper houses was dying out, there would be no "let's harken back to an ancient honorable tradition of 5 v 5 in the eyes of the mother to decide guilt or innocence" and then have some true blue blood types join a lethal melee for a no-name hedge knight. The Targs would have just killed him behind the tent with a bone saw like the Saudi prince did to Kashoogi and Baelor would have been rueful in his conscious for about 10 minutes before moving on with Westerosi life. That's the biggest plot hole to me and has been since it arose and I'm constantly having to remind myself to suspend disbelief in a world built where dragons are more natural than some of the humans. - Dallas - Even Shittier than Normal
