Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Duck Around and Find Out
He's from North Shore. Very talented kid.

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins
Now we can debate whether Arch would have made that throw or not. I’m kidding. That play should be motivating Quinn to no end though. At the very least he should learn to be more consistently calm in the pocket. He should also get better at knowing which arm angle to use for his throws.

This is true, but Watts was cross trained at safety during an offseason while at Ohio state.

No worries. It’s also notable to mention that we didn’t recruit linebacker well under that tenure either, and that impacts coverage integrity too.

Murphy never played under Herman. He was a 2021 recruit. 3 years and out

I could have been more obvious about the point I was making. The guys who were good were generally there before Herman got there. He brought in Sterns, DMo, Jamison, Foster, Cook, and Green. Adimora, Watson, Owens, Alford, and the rest were his as well. Orlando's defense was good with Strong's guys. Got progressively worse. PK's defense has gotten progressively better since getting here. Sweat, Cook, Thompson, Jamison, Crawford, Barron, Ford, Gbenda, and Bush were all guys who were on a roster with Herman as head coach, but eventually contributed to a good Texas defense under Sark. Outside of Sweat, Ford, and Barron, who are we potentially hurting over losing?

Not solely schematic. There was a talent issue too. Kris Boyd was super talented, but had poor discipline. Holton Hill was more undisciplined off the field than on it. Deshon Elliott left after the 2017 season, and that was a pretty good defense that year. Brandon Jones had great athleticism and run support, but bad ball skills. Chris Brown was limited athletically, but solid in run support. BJ Foster got worse every year after his first, overall lack of discipline. DMo is a linebacker. PJ Locke was solid and a likely victim of a bad scheme. D'Shawn Jamison could also have been used better. I think Josh Thompson has all the talent in the world, but he was just always a step or two late. Sterns was hurt often after his great freshman season, and tried to play through some injuries that made it tough for him to make the same plays we came to expect. Most of the guys they recruited at DB were overrated. Jalen Green lacked the speed and technique to play corner. He finished as an average safety at Miss St. Chris Adimora finished his career as a linebacker at SMU. Kenyatta Watson, Tyler Owens, Xavian Alford, etc.

Where did this narrative of him being hurt all the time come from? This is literally the only year where he's missed games due to injury. Played in 11/14 (10/14 if you remove Tech) and 13/13 last year.

The reason was a lack of talent at the position. Went 1/4 at DB in 2022, then brought in some good guys in 2023. All but Muhammad needed time to bake. 2024 has guys like Black, Wilson, and Mack who are all pretty talented. Black will play some this year, and could take over for/keep rotating with Brooks in 2025. We had Watts playing out of necessity, now things have changed. He's solid, but we can do better at that position. Would have been interesting to see how he looked at safety with a full offseason of development, but if he's not interested then that's too bad.

Film matters more than stats, but stats do matter to an extent. Maye and Williams are very talented playmakers. Quinn is really good, but I wouldn't necessarily call him a playmaker/field general type. Quinn is like a talented bus driver for the offense right now.

If we can trade out Carter for Caldwell, we're good. I remember seeing Carter get planted by double teams a few too many times this year. If he wants to play more snaps, there's no way you can guarantee him that.

I love me some Mo Blackwell, but he's probably best as a core special teamer on this team. Too bad he couldn't put on more weight. Gbenda is nice if the lightbulb continues to come on for him. He could even be draftable next year if he makes a similar leap from last year.

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins
Bruh. Everyone expected this year to be Quinn's final year in college. Texas was planning for that to be the case. MM and Arch would have competed for QB1 next year or we would have been hoping for Arch to be ready next year. I assume MM doesn't leave this quickly if the narrative and expectation around Quinn staying another year hadn't shifted. Either way, like he said, you do what it takes to keep Quinn another year as long as it makes sense to do so. Sets us up nicely for a another good run next year. Gives Arch another year to allow his actual game to match or surpass the outsized public expectations of his game too.

Jordan Whittington appreciation thread
Be a good man...be a good man. Some things change...some don't. Texas forever. I was excited about him when he came into the program, and I couldn't be more proud of what he became despite all of the adversity he faced during his time in Austin. Hook'em, JWhitt.

Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet, Now Starting for the Miami Dolphins
I'd take year 3 Sark/Quinn and his potential leap behind that experienced OL and easyish schedule over RSFr Arch. Arch should get more PT next year because I could see us blowing out 4 or 5 of the teams on the schedule next year with Quinn back and an improved OL. RS So/RS Jr Arch, then we'll see what happens with Owens/Lacey/transfer portal. If Quinn coming back jeopardizes Arch at Texas, then let Quinn go. If Quinn coming back jeopardizes Lacey at Texas, we'll figure it out.

You literally just said "can or will LSU win a bidding war against Texas? I'm pretty sure the answer is no" They have the money to offer more than we may be willing to, he also has extensive ties to them. I can't see him going to work for Brian Kelly though. I'd be more concerned if Bama came hard at him.

Look at the eye level. Theyre all about the expected height. TyAnthony looks lighter than expected though. Or Wingo is just built like a tank.

I think his attachment to LSU is the fact that he's from NOLA. Doubt he goes anywhere.

DL is a very tiring position to play, especially considering the size of the players doing it. Guys like Bralen Trice, who was recruited and partially developed by PK, are rare. Dude has an incredible motor and burst for how many snaps he plays.

2024 Transfer Thread - The Pedantic Circlejerk
Wingo is pretty raw and Sark's system isn't the easiest to learn for WRs. He could get in rotationally like Cook did this year if he picks things up quick enough.

I believe that was part of the reason why he left there. He still believed he was a corner, but wasn't being used in a way that let him be successful.

We didn't offer him coming out of HS. He was considering them coming out of HS, same DB coach still there. A&M guys is reporting that he's gonna visit here to try and manufacture some momentum when he transfers there "over Texas".
