Texas Recruiting Notes 2025: Duck Around and Find Out
He moves well enough for his size and he'll move better as he reshapes his body. He just needs to learn how to move his body well enough to be effective. Not many OL, D1 or not, are gonna be able to get back in position after getting caught flat footed on a stunt

2025 TE Emaree Winston
Taking his commitment this early while we have so much leverage in the recruiting market is a sign of just how highly this staff values Winston. He's not fast, but he's pretty explosive for his size. Looks like a capable blocker too. His hands are clearly special too.

2024 Transfer Thread - The Pedantic Circlejerk
Which is why I added the bracketed part. You know some of them expected better based on their rating out of HS and the fact they are transferring from Texas. You're wrong. If they expected better or wanted to pursue a higher profile place, they wouldn't have committed so quickly.

Texas Recruiting Notes 2024: Bags Don't Beat Bankrolls
Nah, Hibbler was a take. Not easy to get those Mississippi guys if the instate schools want them. He seemed to shut things down for good after the in-home with the new staff.

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
Worthy is a gamewrecker. If you don't account for him, the band is playing Texas Fight. Mitchell is more reliable actually catching the ball. He runs really fluid routes and sells his fakes really well. He's the best catcher on the team. Sanders can burn you a number of ways, even with a bad ankle. Whittington is probably our best receiver against zone coverage, and he's winning more consistently against man now. Blue may have some of the best hands on the team, and definitely the best in the RB room. Very fast and can run P5 WR level routes. Stop Worthy first, then hope Quinn doesn't see the other guys that are open.

Opponent Analysis: Washington Defense
They are going to give our guys a ton of cushion. Worthy could have double digit receptions by the early second half if he's healthy. I think the deep over will be available as long as we can protect as well. I want to see how they defend our backs getting split out. I imagine they'll opt for pressure, but I could see a ton of success with the screen game from that. For as much as they motion as an offense, I found it interesting that they have had a hard time defending it on defense.

I believe Oregon would have been favored against us. Maybe 3.5 pts or so.

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
My big concern with Oregon would be Nix's playmaking outside of the pocket and his ability to break off chunks with scrambling. They run basic schemes on both offense and defense though, and we would match up pretty well outside of Nix. Penix can scramble a bit, but he isn't nearly as mobile. I preferred to face you guys because plays are generally on schedule and we do better against that.

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
Big difference between last year and this year is that as a team, Texas' opponents were regularly running for more than 100 yards last year. This year, there are multiple games where opponents didn't go over 50. There were even 1-2 games where opponents ran for single digit yards all game. The run defense is much improved. Sweat gets most of the attention, but Murphy is just as dominant if not more disruptive. Collins can flash on any given play. Carter became more effective as the year went on too. Those guys will be fresher than they've been in a while.

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
TCU and OU actually had success running the ball against us. But OU needed the QB run to do it. TCU took advantage of some bad substitutions and overzealousness on the edges to get their runs. It will be interesting to see how many snaps they give to Sweat and Murphy in this game. Carter and Collins should provide some solid backup snaps too. I would like to see Broughton getting most of his snaps at Jack in the playoffs. If you guys find success against the run, I imagine we'll get more aggressive with the calls. The theme of this recent Texas onslaught has been aggression and physicality.

We also rotate safeties a lot, so guys stay fresh and have an opportunity to blend perspectives. They've also improved communication over the year

2024 Transfer S Andrew Mukuba
Big time. Lots of pieces to move around at nickel and safety next year. Austin Jordan, Jaylon Guilbeau, Derek Williams, Jelani McDonald, Warren Roberson, Michael Taaffe, Xavier Filsaime, and Jordon Johnson-Rubell. Passing offenses won't be as electric next year either, so we should be more than solid next year if Gideon/Joseph do their job.

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
Fully agree with this. We can and have shown ways to expose their weaknesses throughout the season. Their main win condition is for Penix to have a 2022 Arizona, 2023 Boise St, 2022-2023 Mich St. type game. Even then, Quinn could match him and they would have a very hard time. We also have the revenge factor, which can't be overlooked. We owe them for last year.

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
Washington is actually pretty physical, especially when compared to who they played in the Pac-12. Oregon had a tough time with Tech's physicality though, so maybe it isn't worth much to say. Their lines definitely play nastyish on film. Rosengarten is better than I initially gave him credit for, and Brailsford is weak but very quick and plays with good leverage. They protect the hell out of him with their guards. I initially overrated Trice, but he's a problem if you don't account for him. Can't let JT be responsible for blocking that guy one on one. We'll see what impact Zach Durfee makes for them. I think DeBoer knows where his team is weak against us and will have plans in place to combat that. Whether or not it is enough will determine the outcome of this game.

From what I saw of him, he's athletic but undisciplined. Feels like his instincts are poor too, but it's easy for someone to look bad in that defense. I'd still want Braylan Shelby if he entered.

I've heard similar, but you'd think he could be developed. Maybe Nelson didn't wanna wait. Nelson isn't too mobile either. I couldn't see him having success under Riley anyway. So, two of the guys that were ranked ahead of Arch in at least one of the rankings (Nelson, Moore) are now in the portal.

Maalik Murphy unfucked Duke, works his next miracle at Oregon State
Achieving your goals requires sacrifice. Anyone who has fought to create or pursue something that was far from guaranteed understands the importance of doing everything in your power to increase the likelihood of having success. Time is against you as a student athlete, and even more so as a quarterback. He didn't train for 10+ years to be a backup college QB. He dreams of playing in the NFL. He should try his best to make that happen, no matter the odds.

Week 14, 2023, Texas v Washington, College Football Playoff Edition
What info are you citing for this? I think mixing coverages with a heavy dose of bump and run would go a long way against them. Drop linebackers into slant windows and align the corners to make sideline throws harder. They are elite at back shoulder throws, but I doubt they'll live with those throughout the game.

2024 Transfer Thread - The Pedantic Circlejerk
I think the bigger issue was his perceived lack of development. He was locking onto MHJ more than he should have. Stroud wasn’t a dynamic athlete either, but he saw the field and showed signs of being special pretty early on. McCord didn’t really do that, and Buckeye fans are restless.

The leap from inexperienced players to more experienced players is almost always larger than the leap from experienced player to more experienced player. Our guys were very talented, but still learning how to win. They’ve gotten better from the beginning of the year to where they were against OkSt. Now, Sark and Co. have a month to prep and our guys have time to get healthier. You guys have been banged up all season, but our guys have too.
