Fixed for me. Sam is the kind of kid that would excel at any position on the field appropriate for his size and speed. He’s a pure fucking jock. Those are the guys I want on my team.
Oh, shit. Paul Wesley wants more of my money... noharley, that Collings is the shit, man. Gorgeous. Bogey, I didn’t need that temptation this close to Christmas.
I hear you, Chad, but as a kid I wanted an L6-S, RD Artist or Gretsch Super Axe so bad it hurt. They were the guitars of the future. So we were told. We were also told there would be flying cars...
Damn. That was spectacular, jj. As a band dad those last drills gave me both high BP and chills. My oldest went on to march a couple of seasons on tuba with UNT and I’m pretty sure he’s done. My youngest is quite the tympanist and his HS band and percussion directors were trying to convince him to do drum corps. He opted to take time off, and i don’t blame him, but his roommate is snare on the UNT drumline and he may be getting the itch again.
I absolutely agree with that, Mojo. When I was playing for my old church in Houston it was a completely different experience. I was surrounded by extremely talented musicians, singers and arrangers and it brought out a level of creativity that had been sorely missing from my overall experience. I’ll likely be moving to the Austin area within the next year and would love to explore meeting up with a few of you guys once I get there.
I’ll weigh in on the Firebird. I LOVE the one I bought last year. If y’all remember I bought it with the idea of reselling it. No. Effing. Way. Just a fantastic guitar. It was a new old-stock 2015 so the balance issues have been addressed. It has Steinberger tuners and a zero nut - intonation and ability to hold tune are impeccable. The mini HB’s are very slightly on the tinny side but hot as balls. The neck is sublime. Extremely versatile sound range. It rocks but it’d be a blues monster in the right hands. Versus the Explorer it’s kind of an ugly duckling, but that’s what I like about it. Agree with jj that the former is too ‘80’s looking (regardless of when it was designed) though in the ‘80’s I thought it was the coolest thing ever. And the superfluous attributes DougO mentioned are part the Firebird’s charm and character, not to mention it’s a three-piece body with the center being the heart and the wings simply attachments. As to the reverse/non-reverse issue: while the prevailing thoughts here are correct I always thought it was backwards. Why would you call the original “reversed”? Reversed from what? Haha. Logic. Anyway, the original is far superior in aesthetics for my money. That’s why I ultimately spent it. Heh.
Guys, don’t forget there was initially a flag on the play before they picked it up. Dipshits threw it on Hager for Unnecessary Roughness before they realized they missed the fumble. The incompetence of B12 officiating never ceases to amaze me.
Not exactly, Pool. Mack wanted an overhaul. What we’re watching here is a hybrid of smash mouth inside power, gap cutbacks and sweeps combined with, wait for it, GDGD spread-the-field-laterally principles. Regardless of how some of us may feel about Greg Davis strategy overall the guy knows football and has designed some truly innovative schematic tactics and matchups. Herman is absolutely a GD disciple and has said as much verbatim. What is surprisingly pleasant to me is: (1) how well (and quickly) it’s coming together due to EVERYONE buying in and continuing to improve, and (2) exploiting mismatches precisely how Sushi described it. Welcome back, Sushi. Thanks for the insight.
Thanks. Couldn’t remember which year that was but that’s it. Lasher was gladhanding and prancing around on the sidelines before that kick. My brother said, “look at that guy - I guarantee he’s gonna miss it”. I have to admit, seeing Dicker with the casual grin made me call back to that in a bad way. The difference is that Cameron fucks. Like fucking ice, baby. Legend.
I was there. I met Tony Dorsett, who was there to watch his son, Anthony, Eric Dickerson and Billy Sims in the End Zone Club. The program honored the SWC Heisman winners. And, technically, the final SWC Heisman winner, Ricky Williams, was on the field that day. I had Dorsett and Dickerson autograph my program for posterity. I skipped Sims. Because, fuck that guy.
Precisely. Power inside running between the tackles is the bane of OU’s D as they recruit edge speed over inside strength. Then suck them in with a hitch-fly or a deep post. Major knew this and exploited it perfectly.
