  1. point being, if steph gets to do things like chase down rebounds and fire up a three before his defender can get back on him, he’s got a much better chance of winning than he does in the completely stupid modern 1v1 game. man, this conversation got me fired up! lol
  2. they also will play variations such as 1 on 1 with only one dribble, or two dribbles, or even no dribbles. all of the best players in the world do this whenever they play 1 on 1. here’s a wild idea: how about you roll the ball out there and fucking compete? how about you actually work up a sweat, take it seriously, and go after the guy who’s trying to beat you? i haven’t been a coach in a decade but this shit fires me up now more than ever. i’ve watched basketball culture in this country rot, and it starts at the top and flows downhill very very fast. modern 1 on 1 is a complete joke. zero surprise that the euro guys are so much more well rounded than we are.
  3. also, i get it that steph is too small and can’t defend, but it would be fascinating to watch as he has the deepest bag when it comes to shooting, and probably has the greatest “he’s on fire!” ability. when he’s on he ain’t missing, from anywhere. he could jump out to a big lead and really put the pressure on any of these, especially if they played by today’s weird ass 1 on 1 rules. for those who don’t know, 1 on 1 is no longer just a straight up game between two players, scoring by 1’s and 2’s, playing to 8, 10, or 11, winning by two. now, there’s all sorts of variations of 1 on 1, and they’ve all gotten rid of things like hustle, rebounding, and defense. now whenever one guy takes a shot, that’s it. whatever happens happens. you don’t hustle for a rebound, try to get the ball back out behind the line, and keep going at it; no. once the shot is up the play is over, and if it’s a miss the defender automatically has the ball. whenever he shoots, both men will again stop playing, watch what happens with the shot, gather the rebound (or make), and start over. it is fucking asinine if you ask me, and the laziness of it all epitomizes the “streamlined” modern american player. we’ve gotten rid of all of the actual playing, and turned it into a skills competition, even during the real games.
  4. wild to me that lebron has 5 votes to larry’s 0. larry >>>>>> lebron in 1 on 1. lebron is a much better full court, team player than he is a 1 on 1 player. larry would roast lebron in embarrassing fashion, and should probably be a top 3 vote getter here with mj and KD.

if we defended the three better we’d truly be in business. hopefully something to look forward to.

you keep alabama reasonable and then totally shut down vandy and yeah, your defensive numbers are gonna jump. we haven’t seen in-season progress like this in years. sunday: today:
  7. kenpom has us up to 9-9 which would have us tied for 6th in sec. we were at 6-10 two games ago, 5-11 before that.
  8. something specific that we’ve seen from miller that we never saw from shaka or RT: our shot selection has clearly improved. guys like pope, mark, and swain who are used to jacking up any stupid shot they feel like, or who have to get a shot off if they haven’t touched the ball in 3-4 possessions, are no longer taking those shots. you can even see them considering taking these shots, wanting to take them, then passing up on them and keeping the ball moving. we were taking terrible shots earlier in the year, and now we aren’t. visible, tangible evidence of a HC identifying a problem and addressing and fixing it? during the season? yes please.
  9. nah, unfortunately what miller and his team needed was not patience, but a come to jesus moment after one of the most pathetic performances i’ve ever seen against Tennessee. thankfully miller has gotten his message across clearly, but holy shit things were really really bad just two games ago.
  10. i think florida will be, but that’s it. still super tough and deep league, but a clear step down from the bloodbath it was last year.
  11. we’ve already jumped 10 spots in kenpom. 48 >> 38.
