Will have to pick one up next time I head to Denver.

Do you have Amazon Prime?  They're $1.95 with free same-day shipping if I'm reading the website correctly.

Same day only if you place an order of $35 or more. Throw in some strings, picks, and an extra snark.

Ah, you're right.  Free tomorrow.  I don't know how much they pay for postage, but it would cost me at least $0.50 to mail that thing, so it's a pretty good deal.

At this point I couldn't imagine changing strings without a winder, especially considering how many of mine have a Bigsby.

While we on the subject of changing strings, let's all take a lesson from the master.

What the hell kinda Gibson bridge lets you wrap the tuning peg first before sticking the string through the other end?

After the "2 or 3 Wind Fracas of 2020," B.B. drops like 12 winds on the thread.

The Dano is my first with a Pau Ferro fingerboard. It's a nice example that looks nicer than some of my rosewood ones. Very tight grain. Not porous. Looks like rosewood and feels like maple. I would steer away from any light examples if you don't like them, because oiling it probably won't darken it, since it probably won't soak in much. Imagine you'd need to dye it.

This is the original bridge on my 82 LP Custom. I forget the name of it. Like TX-7 or some such.

Problem with that is you can’t wrap the string around jimmy page style.

True.

Guess I’ll just have to get a standard for that...
#7569

You'd have to know how much string to wrap, though, right?  Seems odd.  I'm too old for that shit.

I just load the ball end into the bridge, and start the tuning knob wrap with X amount of slack in the string.  I use the width of my hand to roughly measure that slack.  Works for me.

So that Guitar Handbook posting re-ignited my lust for Gibson arch tops of all varieties.  This one is pretty nice:

I just don't yet have the jazz chops to justify such a fine instrument.  But if I've learned anything over time, it's that making an aspirational purchase of a guitar has definitely made me a better player.

I mean, collector.

Just play whatever you usually play, but make a few mistakes.  Voila!  You’re playing jazz.

He does lol! I worked with him back in the early 2000s. But it’s gotta be the right price. What do you think a good price on that is?

The only other one similar on Reverb is quite a bit more.  But of course, it's still sitting there waiting to sell.

Good note about aspirational purchases.  The ES-330 has me playing and writing some things I probably wouldn't if all I had were solid bodies.

Now when can we expect to see your new jazz axe? :D

GC usually pays 40%--50% of retail for used instruments.  So they probably have, maybe, $1,200 in that guitar.  I'd over them 20% over that and tell them the guitar looks pretty beat up. ;)

And if a 330 interests him, I'd gladly sell him my Goldtop Casino.

This is why I've developed no fucks in buying quality guitars these days. If you take care of them they as good as money in the bank.

I told y'all years ago when I met my new boss, now close friend, who had over 65 guitars in his collection. He told me then that he figured he could sell them one by one to finance vacations and whatnot once he retired.

He's now retired and did well enough for himself that he and his wife get by on their fixed incomes and even travel a couple times a year. Now whenever he gets the itch for a new guitar he just buys it and digs something out his collection that he hasn't touched in years and leaves it on consignment to pay for it. He just bought a B-Bender Tele and sold a Sants Cruz acoustic to pay for it.

In short, Im kinda eying guitars these days the same way I do my 401k, only a lot more fun in the interim.

It'll be a while.  I still have Chad Jr.'s college to pay for!

I have a lead on a nice 1953 ES-175 with P-90s.  It's beat to hell, missing some binding, etc.  But it has the feel/sound.  I know the owner just bought a fancier, newer Gibson (no pics, haven't seen it yet).  So I'm hoping that'll make him decide to let go of the ES-175 at a reasonable "players" price.  We shall see.  Looks something like this:

I've got a 1952 ES-175 I inherited from my wife's grandfather.  It's in fantastic shape except one fret has come unglued at one end.  I need to take it in and get it worked.

Yeah, it's the old '59 Fender Super.  I bought a little Orange Crush 20RT for myself for Christmas and have been using that to fool around on.  Much easier to play quietly.

Lurk a lot, not much to post other than liking other peoples' stuff.  Although my wife got a notion about a month ago to learn to play bass (my son plays), so there might be some new equipment in the future.  Kinda disconcerting to come home in the evening and see hear a middle-aged woman playing Nirvana bass lines upstairs.  😂

Not as disconcerting as heating her playing bass and then a guitar kicking in.

The horror realizing she has some strange dude up there playing your guitar.
