Any recs for a setup on an old nylon string guitar?  I have an old Guild that is in decent shape but I'm sure it could be more playable.

Take it down to Strait and see what they can do.

I know I've posted this elsewhere, but Jerry Reed is a genius.  So we've got a Les Paul with what looks like Deluxe pickups on it.  And that tape echo.  And those Ampegs.

When I was a young boy, my parents took my sister and me to a bluegrass festival in the Ozarks.  Jerry Reed was the headliner.  He wasn't exactly bluegrass, but whatever.  He made a big impression on me.

I don't really understand why we went -- my parents were huge music aficionados, but they leaned heavy towards classical.  I'm glad they took us, though.

RIP THAT BOX OPEN BRO

We can have more headstock arguments. I think it was JJ who doesn't like the Collings headstock (acoustic). I do.

what's it going to be what's it going to be

While waiting for Paul Wesley’s Collings gender reveal party, anyone got any experience with Suhr guitars?  This looks interesting as a Paulicaster.

I-35 LC

Lollar P90's

Last week a musician friend who used to live in Austin texted me to ask me if I had ever owned a Rickenbacker 12-string.  I haven't, but I tried to talk him into ordering a Duesenberg Double Cat instead.  I found a couple of those on Reverb just to send him links.  And, you know, as long as I'm on Reverb, I should go ahead and show him an example of what my own next guitar was going to be --- something semi-hollow with P90.

Guess which one of us pulled the trigger?

I played one of these a few years ago and was kind of smitten, but I figured I'd have to settle for something more realistic - maybe a Gibson CS-336 (they do a version with P90) or a Warmoth Thinline Tele body with P90 (Chad Fuck suggested some pretty cool-looking ones before when I mentioned the idea).

Now how would he fit I-35 in his house? It would take 45 minutes just to leave his driveway.

Jerry Reed is in my top 10 all time.

What country artist comes up with this funk?

That riff is Primus-like.

So is it like a 330 with a stop bar tail piece?  Or is it like a 335 with P90s?  Absolute stunner either way!

2nd show in a row to feature a Soldano. She sounded great, shredder. The following band featured two 5120s, one Peavey branded and the other EVH. Everytime i hear anybody play though one of these, they sounded great. Maybe i should look into one. It might be settings, it may be the players, but both these sounded better than the Soldano IMO. Maybeni should look i to one, 1 wa t to replace my Marshall 1987x with something crunchy that has a Master Volume knob. Both both were Metal bands.

Watching this again this morning.  Are those filtertrons in the Byrdland Roy is playing?  Sounds like a little more bite than the usual PAF style humbucker?

Good lord, that 54 burst Strat.  I've seen new guitars that look less mint.
New theory:  when buying a new Fender top line guitar (whatever "American Standard" is these days), buy two.  Play one.  Lock the other one away for decades.  Tell kids I will come back from the grave if they open the case before 60 years have elapsed.  Finance their retirement.

By then we will all live in the Metaverse and everyone will have a ‘54.

I saw him, Roy Clark and Glen Campbell at Dockery Farms many, many years ago.

Up until that very night I had no idea that those three men could pick a guitar as fast as anyone alive.

Not to sidebar, but Joe B….. Respect his guitar collection thing and he’s an impressive player but is it just me or is there just no real “music” there. It may be just “soul” thing that I’m missing. I can’t seem to like the guy or his musical contributions and I’d love to know from you guys if there’s just something I’m missing. Feels paint by numbers and highly affected. And those two consecutive gifs nicely represent it.

Also, aren’t we supposed to be gazing at a new Collings up in here or are my photos just not loading?!?!

#16096

Oh damn. Just scrolled up and saw the Collings. That’s a beauty! No comment on the headstock - the provenance and heritage and look of that guitar overcome any objections, imo.

Imo:  technically very proficient, but I don’t care for any of his original songs.  His live shows are entertaining for me, for the guitar porn if nothing else.  He isn’t really a blues player, more of a pentatonic shredder over bluesy accompaniment.

I always feel his real skill is installing dental implants. Shocked he doesn't play more PRS's.
